The last time Mathieu van der Poel lost a cross race was in 2011, when he came in third. He won around 40 races since. I don’t know of any rider with that kind of a record, ever.
It must be his genes. He is the son of Adrie van der Poel, former WC cross and winner of LBL and many other races, and the grandson of eternal second, Raymond Poulidor. The mix seems to make him eternal first.
