Achilles International

This morning New York’s Central Park hosted the 11th Annual Achilles Hope & Possibility 5 Miler. This event brings together athletes with disabilities and able-bodied athletes in a celebration of running. Many of these runners compete with Handcycles, Pushrim wheelchairs & Power chairs. The race brought athletes from across the world here and helps to focus on the groups many specialized programs for children and wounded veterans.

Preceding the race on Saturday night was the 23rd Annual Tribute Dinner which honored David Cordani, the President and CEO of Cigna Corporation & Matt Turner. Hosted by the winning Kirsten Coles with speeches by President and Founder Richard Traum and V.P. Mary Bryant the dinner brought attention to the groups many supporters.

Achilles International brings so very many athletes here to New York for the event and this year, NYvelocity’s own favorite son, Damian Lopez was able to come from Cuba for the run. Though primarily a cyclist, Damian has proved himself to be able to rise through his challenges and branch out.
