Hopeful Friday May 23, 2014

Section head text.

It’s the height of Jersey kermess season, so that means there are races sprayed all over the calendar this weekend.

Saturday morning, there’s the CRCA Club Race in Central Park.

Also on Saturday morning is the Robert Ollivierra Memorial Race at FBF.

Saturday also has the John Basilone Raritan Cycling Classic in Raritan, NJ.

Saturday through Monday, there’s the Killington Stage Race, but you can’t register for that anymore.

On Sunday, there’s the Bound Brook Cycling Classic in Bound Brook, NJ.

Sunday also has the Kissena Women’s and Junior Track Clinic at the Kissena Velodrome.

And on Monday, there’s the Tour of Somerville in Somerville, NJ, which is kind of a big deal.

Who filed the protest that was ignored by the official? Oh, wait. No protest was filed because you were afraid the guy would yell at you.

Maybe you should ask your wife or girlfriend or mother to borrow your balls the next time you go bike racing.

Guccio Seattube

The irony that Somerville is a “big deal”…. anyone that’s any good in this sport is in Italy right now, no big deal 😛

Romain Seattube

Is a waste if time and money.

$230 for 2 road races and a 12 mile TT.

Tell me again what happens when I go for a ride that day and the gran fondo leaders happen to catch me. Take away the license I stopped buying so I could stop getting ripped off?

Simone Torque

You just gave yourself away, asshole.

Go chase those NRC points (oops, no prize for those) and leave the rest of us alone

USAC Official

Sorry Luchino Seatmast, you’ve been DQ’d because you raced dirty and caused a crash wiping out more than half the field.

Oh wait, that only happens here, in the real world USAC officials don’t do squat about things like that and don’t care about people breaking collarbones and ending up in the hospital.

Luchino Seatmast

That’s right, USAC. It’s all about winning at all costs. Good sportsmanship, having fun, and making a few friends along the way mean nothing when there’s a result on line. Maybe not… 😉

Aristotle

The NRC and NCC are clown shows.

Meanwhile in Chattanooga – local Cat 1s living of meal money competed against their USAC-protected & Euro counterparts with EPO budgets at the USA “Pro” championships in front of a few fans who were sold a tourism-boosting story by the mayor…and Smart Stop goes 1-2? Joke.

In the world of crit racing Somerville is a big deal. Not only is it a great race, it’s one of the few where UHC can’t pull too many dirty moves because of the nature of the course. As a result other people have a real chance at outsprinting them.

shootthegap

Field sprint. Looks like Foundation took second. Adam Alexander. Looks like everyone had UHC’s number today.

The really good riders actually are racing in Somerville on Monday. Its a rest day in Italy on Memorial Day.

Anyone who’s raced a bunch at that level respects what Somerville is. Go back to being epic during gentleman’s races, Guccio Seattube.

Gaetan Crank

Oh really. B squad huh? I thought UHC’s B squad was “Project 706” or whatever. All of the Jamis team evaporated in thin air too? And let’s say UHC sent there so called “B” squad. None of them finished the race? That’s odd.

Froomestrong

Agree that it’s odd (or maybe it isn’t odd) that Jamis and UHC didn’t even factor in the race. Especially Menzies and Keough. Same is said for Somerville bike shop riders Maybe they found the padlocked porto potty before the race or maybe they didn’t feel well, who knows?

United Healthcare sponsors a few teams around the country. The UHC pro team, 706 Project and NCVC who also have some very talented Cat 1s.

Gaetan Crank

Sure they didn’t feel well. The whole team had a case of diarrhea. They went crit nats, they sent there B squad. Sounds like a lot of smoke and mirrors going on.

Montecci rider down a lap climbs out of a manhole as the pack passes by evading all spectators and pace vehicles and out sprints everyone complete with a victory salute.

Now it all makes sense.

Marius Setscrew

UHC crashed themselves out of the race with 2 to go. crash happened in third wheel so there wasnt much anyone could do.

Monteccio rider was in the pits but the official said it wasnt a valid mechanical so he was down two laps.

bikeboy

Tyler Farrar probably couldn’t handle American crits. You know, that whole cornering, bike handling thing that you need in those race.

Euro Pro

It’s funny when the local clowns think that they are hot to trot and cannot even race against the NRC clowns!

Euro Pro

Crits require a different type of rider and fitness level than road races. That’s a pretty fair assessment. And even a different type of racing style. Who’s a better rider? You would have to leave that answer with which is a rider with all around abilities for Crits, Time Trials, and Road Races. It’s a grey area answer!

Anthony Compliant

“Tyler Farrar probably couldn’t handle American crits. You know, that whole cornering, bike handling thing that you need in those race.”

except for the part where he is former US PRO crit champion

shootthegap

Sure former champ. Key word. “Former” “Champ”. Now he’s current cry baby. Kittel, Cav, and Griepel own his ass.

Mauro Clearcoat

It was a field sprint. Right before the last lap, on the 4th corner, there as a big high speed crash. Then on THE last lap, heading on the finish line stretch, there was yet another crash. Adam Alexander of Foundation (local guy)took 1st place and WON the Somerville race. The OTHER guy who crossed the line ahead of him was DQ’ed as he was TWO LAPS DOWN and behind the entire field. Several locals placed in the purse including but not limted to John Durso, Adam Pantastico, Bill Elliston, Edwin Bull, Steve Dioslaki

shootthegap

Wow. How was the DQ guy down two laps sprinting when there was a pace vehicle in the front and rear of the race?

Luca Hammer

congrats to adam for the win, but how does someone who mostly does midweek races prevail at sommerville? must have been somewhat lame without too many pro teams there.

Gaetan Crank

Better yet, what happened to UHC, JJ Haedo in the results. The mother ship swooped down and beemed them up? There no where to be found in the results.

Froomestrong

I think UHC sent their ‘B’ squad as the one we’re used to seeing is probably at Crit Nats.

Froomestrong

Of course it’s a Monetecci rider that wins and gets relagated for taking an illegal free lap. Way to keep up those sketchy-ethics guys.
