Hangover June 17, 2013

Section head text.

Another big weekend of racing has been completed, so let us now type the results into the internet and see what happens.

At the Zepplin Crit in Lakehurst, NJ, Gerald Adasavage of Bicycle Therapy/Melitta won the cat 3 race. Amy Cutler of Team EPS/CSS p/b Shebell & Shebell won the women’s cat 1/2/3/4 race. I thought I saw the results for the Lucarelli and Castaldi Cup race on Saturday, but I can’t find them, if you know where they are, please help. Photos are here though.

Here are the results for the New York State time trial championships.

At Harlem on Sunday, Marcel Kalz of Team Rudy Project Racing won the pro/1/2 race. Amy Cutler of of Team EPS/CSS p/b Shebell & Shebell went two for two for the weekend and won the women’s race. according to official results the P12 averaged 36mph (based on 35 miles/58+ minutes)at Harlem…is this right?

alanatwood

The pros only did 35 laps, which is 28 miles. Chief Referee shortened the race; but I still list it in results at 35 miles so the cat 2’s can get proper upgrade points.

us old guys were in a bit of a speed walk also – if the numbers are correct, ave was 28.9 for the field and the break even faster.

Matt Cooke is a member of the ChampSys, which is a sub-team of the CRCA. He (or his team) paid his member dues.

You don’t have to feel any sense of pride, if you don’t want to. But he’s a member, just like many.

Jasper Liner

yes the masters race felt crazy fast. anyone know the condition of the 2 guys that went down between turns 3 and 4? they didn’t get back up immediately.

Provenzano Seatmast

anyone know the condition of the REBNY rider who was taken away by ambulance in the Harlem Cat 4 crash that neutralized the field for 15 minutes? Guy looked like he was hurting.

Lanced Alot

According to their facebook page, broken collarbone, broken ribs, punctured lung. Another RBNY with collarbone.

Enzo Cogset

i agree with John Doe CRCA Member. that’s kind of bullshit-like. what is the point for crca….or champ sys for that matter?

kissmeena

i gotta agree with John Doe and Enzo…although, on the other hand, he was flyin the colors….good for the nationwide rep

Damien Pulley

ChampSys got an invite due to Matt Cooke’s performance their last year when he raced for Exergy and their NRC standings this year. Rule says since champ Sys pro team (china) was in the race, that NY champ Sys (amateur) needed to enter under the club as Crca to race. Because of this, Chabanov and the Keough brothers got the oportnity to race in a Uci stage race. None of the crca dollars paid for non club members. Same thing with Philly last week. And you giving a shit is completely optional.

hater69

I think it’s awesome that the CRCA is giving it’s members a chance to race at such a high level.

Leo Seatmast

That makes a lot more sense now (the backstory with Matt Cooke). Anyway, why wouldn’t you be happy? CRCA colors are CRCA colors. Cooke and Keough aren’t local racers, but Chabanov is and it’s been great following him through Philly and now the Tour de Beauce. CRCA composite team: the ringers and the local.

Not a lawyer

Just to correct the misinfo below, Matt Cooke is not a CRCA member and no one has paid his CRCA dues. He races for whoever pays him.

Noe Liner

There are no residency requirements to become a CRCA member. You pay your dues and you can fly the CRCA colors. If you want to race club races, you do your marshal duty. No other requirements. As long as he doesn’t act like a douche and give CRCA a bad name, who cares where he lives?

Gopro

Cooke’s team pays him?

I thought The CRCA version of ChampSys was an elite (read cat 1s need only apply) amateur team…some racing full time trying to live the dream, others trying to hack it like the rest of us as part timers and doing a good job of it. Am I wrong? I’ve always sorta admired the elite amateur teams but that was assuming they were amateurs!

If they’re pros does that mean I’m a pro because I’ve raced with pros and sometimes get an envelope with 20$ in it after losing the field sprint to a pro?

FBF update!!!

UPDATE! I am at FBF now and it is raining. The course is not flooding yet and I am monitoring the situation. Next update will be in 30 minutes.

Yup, you a pro once you pocket those winnings. Even a beginner who wins his first $20 in a cat 5 race is a pro. Now if you are or were a golfer, then this would be simple Rule 3-1 “An amateur golfer must not play golf for prize money or its equivalent in a match, competition or exhibition.”

Dicksnot

It’s ridiculous that Champion System can’t get people, after all of their years in business and millions of dollars in kit sold, to understand that their name is Champion System and not Champion Systems.

Hire a PR person and send out a press release.

Raphael Seatmast

MEran and Vidal are the best CRCA Riders, Gossips made Foundation riders to stay away from CRCA rosters. Matt was not even close to this guys last year. Ridiculous and racist.

kissmeena

You could not be more incorrect. They would be riderS for Champion System. System would be plural if there were 2 teams. It refers to the unit and/or the brand name. That does not change. 2 players on the Miami Heat do not make for two Heats.

Mathieu Seatpost

Actually, it’s Champion System if you see one guy walking around in their kit. Like: “Hey, that dude is a Champion System.”

If you see more than one guy it’s different.

“Hey, those two guys who beat me for $20.00 are Champion Systems.”

rinaldo

I believe that ‘living the dream’ is actually getting paid to race. Not going utterly broke to do so.

Giulio del Friuli

I thought it was Tour de Bruce. Definitely not enough Bruce’s in the ranks these days. Kind of a shooting star of a name.

Enzo Polished

so let me get this straight. you think 10th overall at san dimas, 3rd overall with a win in the RR at sea otter, 9th overall at gila, going to ToC and racing, etc, etc, etc. not to mention 2nd overall this year at san dimas, 2 in the RR at redlands and 10th overall. all of this is less than what meran and vidal have done? really? you realize those guys have nothing on him for a stage race like beauce or philly, right? put your fan boy goggles away, they make you look and sound stupid.

Jeremy Skidmark

yeah the dude’s awesome alright. and i think my neighbor’s kid makes more $ mowing lawns during summer than most domestic “pro” cyclists.

Gopro

I can think of easier ways to get that envelope with 20$ than 3 hours in the saddle 5 states away. They may or may not involve Lycra and ample crotch padding.

Besides, it’s not for the 20$, but the ample beautiful babes that accompany neo-pros.

Go champions system!

hater69

So what is exactly the problem? Why are we debating the merits of guys racing in another country at a race none of you have even the slightest chance of entering? Yes there isn’t much money in domestic racing. So what?

Baptiste Post

“Even a beginner who wins his first $20 in a cat 5 race is a pro.”

False.

There are no cash prizes in Cat 5 races.

Kylian Seattube

Meran and vidal are way better’ racing in a amateur team, winners of gold and silver medals in pan am, LBA caribeann’ Meran got 10th in NRC w just a few races at this level. if you put this guys in a team as Cook they will bring more results. being
pro men’s nothing it is about connections.

me

1. Cooke was Elite National Champion in 2005, and had been a professional until this year. That’s 7 years in the pros.
How do you compare that to Meran and Vidal??

2. Cooke pays road taxes too.
