Hangover August 12, 2013

You people raced bikes

There was racing this weekend, and I’m told it was interesting, so here’s the rundown, which will be less interesting that the actual racing.

On Saturday at the CRCA Mengoni Gran Prix, Adam Alexander of Foundation won the pro/1/2/3 race. Any Cutler of FCS/Zngine p/b Mr. Restore won the women’s 1/2/3/4 race. Rene Herrera of Kissena won the cat 3 race. James Hyatt of Ride Brooklyn won the cat 4 race. Parker Chea of Star Track NYC won the juniors race. Results are here.

Meanwhile at the CRCA Club Championships, Gerry Martinez of CRCA won the A race. Carol-Lynn Mills of Houlihan Lokey won the women’s championship. Alex Sanborn of Foundation won the B Race. Frank Arroyo won the 45+ race. Mike Richford won the C race. Results are here.

When is CRCA going to fix the results mistake regarding Gerry Martinez winning the club championship? It was Brendan Sullivan of Lupus. And Nyvelocity?

When a chase is in progress, and if it starts early, the initiating team usually does the job of keeping the breakaway close, but not catching it.
That’s what happened when Mengoni and Blue Ribbon were working for about 3 laps. Then a big team with fresh legs took over and finished the job.
That’s the way it’s done.

CRCA website lists the laptimes of (some of the) old races as well. I recall seeing low 11 min laps, but that might have been a Papp time

No way

I was 100% sure he took drugs, and I don’t even know the guy, just that he is not that strong. Terrible of me.

Any Pics from this past weekend. I dint see any pictures of me.
If I dont see any pics the race didnt happened

Hello

@ Cooper. I just read your fund me thing. I’ll be happy to help you get to Spain, but I don’t think you need $10 Gs and I wont contribute to paying for you to race cross. I think all of this money is better spent on charitable causes. Please don’t be offended, you put it out there and I’m just speaking from the heart.

Paolo Kevlar

How is half the Lupus team from Georgia? How do they marshal? Do they just pay $140 (membership + sub marshals) just to do the CRCA championship?

FBF UPDATE: It’s now 1:20PM and the rain is just about over. The question is – how flooded is the course? I normally arrive at Floyd Bennett Field around 4:30PM so I will give an update on the course conditions at that time. Please spread the word to your fellow racers. Updates will be posted on this page and on the race’s Facebook page.

Hello

Unconfirmed reports state that the fastest ever lap of CP occured at the Mengoni GP. Anyone know if that is true.

Hello

Time 12:34. 31.2 mph. 455w.

It sure felt like the fastest I’ve ever been around CP. Lupus team with help from a few others basically set the new time. IMO

Hello

Before Lupus began chasing Blue Ribbon and Mengoni did a lot of work at the front. Once the Lupus rider dropped from the break they organized the fastest pace I’ve ever seen around the park.

Guido Saddlesore

“Before Lupus began chasing Blue Ribbon and Mengoni did a lot of work at the front” Yes, and that is why the gap went UP to 1 minute plus!

Hello

While the break was away, each time we crossed the start/finish the time gap announced was only 30s, no? At least that’s what I remember hearing.

AC

it got to a minute at one point. lupus did a great job on the front. they rode well and their experience showed. it was fast but not excruciating for middle of the pack chumps (like me). central park is a great course but it’s lack of corners/hills means that even at full tilt it’s pretty easy to hang on. you’d have to be in abysmal shape to get spit out the back.

crits at 30mph are just so much harder (particularly for the >40 set) with all the jumps. if we actually had to turn or put on the brakes that last lap would have crushed the back half of the field.

Tige Tigweld

Can we now move on from talking about going around in circles the same pond we race and train on every week?

Results from Tokeneke?

Tristan Headset

that says a lot about central park and how easy it is in the field vs at the front – guys who were in the group for a 12:05 lap averaging low-mid 200 watts

tom tom tom

I don’t use strava and don’t really understand the obsession. I also question their accuracy. I went to the link below for the CP loop and it shows that at mile 3.38 there is a 15.4% grade. So does that prove that CP is much harder than everyone thinks?

Quarqy Thatcher

Strava estimated power numbers for a race or anytime there is drafting are always high, not low. No one did 455 watts for 12 minutes on Saturday. Look at the numbers that actually come from people’s power meters. Yeah they might be all miscalibrated but it probably averages out.

Jasper Rim

Did the Lupus guys get the lap count wrong or did they intentionally organize a “one lap to go” lead-out train?

Hello

The only other teams with numbers were Mengoni and Blue Ribbon as they had both missed the break. The other big teams had riders in the move. Lupus had a rider in the break, but he popped and once that happened Lupus was intelligent enough to bring it back.

In almost all cases UDADA negative results from A sample tests come back in 2 to 3 weeks unless they do additional testing due to suspicous A sample results. If the A sample is positive the athlete hears in about 8 weeks but the results are supposed to be kept confidential.

If the A sample tests positive they automatically test the B sample.

Been a while since Maltease.

Maxime Wave Ring

Cooper should just the 800 and take 2 to 3 weeks off. and when youre doen just get a JOB like everyone else. stop leaving the pro dream if no team has looked at you at this point. THEN?
Just het a job. no shame in that.

Aaron Biopace

Cooper has had 4 years as a solid cat 3. We are talking raw natural talent here. I don’t get why a pro squad hasn’t picked him up.

Benjamin Bottle

let’s get this straight: cat 3 as a 20-something, for [x] years, and he wants the public to pay for a cyclocross trip to europe? would he like some freedom fries with that?

hater69

no no no no… he wants the public to pay for his trip to Europe to race sweet fixies and then also pay for his cat 3 cross season right here in the US. Nothing so grand…

seelwhucker

As a hardworking messenger I believe this young man is entitled to charity. After all, he is putting in 9 (yes 9) hour days at work!

Benjamin Bottle

Obama, send that hardworkin’ young man just tryin’ to get by an EBT card so he can buy GU gels and protein powder, ASAP!

Charlie I.

Tonight’s race is CANCELED!! I’m at the course now and there is too much flooding to have a safe race. Please spread the word to your fellow racers and please “share this post to get the word out.

so for the 8-weeks after suspicious sample A, tested racer goes FULL THROTTLE scooping as much purse $$$$ as possible

Romain Butyl

It’s not a positive until the B sample comes back positive. Take a chill pill and relax. Go out and train some more instead of worrying about someone else. They also tested at Tokeneke this weekend, are you panties going to get all bunched up about that race too?

Galleazzo Rivnut

many stories unfold where the b sample only comes into play when the rider contests the A sample positive. many just except the A result. Some contest.

is this all true, is someone contesting a positive A sample ?

e pluribus hardon

are all idiots. I can’t believe you like this program. Yeah, workin out great so far. We speculate/accuse/demand for 8 weeks over 3 people. Great.

frederico Lorica

More interesting is the fake test that was announced as a joke in south jersey, and the guys who suddenly didn’t make it to the race.

Ermanno Ergopower

I’d speculate that any $$$ won since a postiive sample was collected would be forfeited, along with the results so it really dosen’t matter when they come back with results. I think LA has to repay all of his winnings, for example.

Or they may all be clean and this all for naught anyway…

Tristan Pulley

He suckered people for $800 so far, only $9200 to go. I guess he wants to fly first class and have a limo take him there. Man’s got no shame.

Benjamin Bottle

i remember the name, he was a very promising junior, no?

what happened? his bio said something like he might have dropped out of high school to go work at a bike shop.

Romain Cage

Just curious. Is this rule enforced from the WADA Code?. Page 70 10.8.1 As a condition of regaining eligibility after
being found to have committed an anti-doping
rule violation, the Athlete must first repay all
prize money forfeited under this Article.

Louis Tank

It looks like there isn’t racing available in NYC this weekend unless you qualify for the masters or women’s category. Does anyone have any ideas on where to go. Isn’t there a Friday night crit at some college on the north fork of Long Island?

I can’t help but feel its a waste not having an A and B category at Prospect.

Chamois

but klier’s been kleen since 2007, just like levi, hincapie, vdv, etc.

2006/2007 must’ve been a magical year. it was the year that everyone stopped doping.

e pluribus hardon

because JV knew, it is fine….and doesn’t warrant a comment….in spite of all his sanctimonious holier than thou bs.

ok.
