Bickering with Pickering?

Chatting with the deputy

Edward Pickering is the Deputy Editor of Cycle Sport Magazine, and he graciously agreed to let us pester him with questions.

i love the mag but if the cover wasn’t on shiny paper, i’d be wiping my ass with this month’s cover. Lance is front and center with a midget Andy in the back and NO CONTADOR?!?!?!?! Are you serious?! The main title even says Armstrong Vs Contador. you’re not going to put the winner on the post tour issue cover? Are you guys smoking post-it notes and sniffing ditto paper across the pond?
Off with your head, Edward!

that’s pandering, i tell you! Does E. Pickering think we don’t like Spaniards? This is America!
who cares that americans really could care less about cycling, let alone applaud a gravity challenged non-english speaking athlete and that Livestrong is the Abercrombie and Fitch for fitness.
pandering, yes pandering…

I’m sure that the cover photo is chosen primarily to move units. Unfortunately the average peruser of their local B&N mag-rack will more likely buy something with LA on the cover instead of AC. That’s how they make $$.

If they have a Spanish version, I’m sure it has AC on the cover…

When nyvelocity launches their print version, my guess is they will put JV on all the covers to draw in the oenophile and sideburn fetishist demographic.

Thanks, I just regret not hearing about the Lance “Lion King-style” laptop press conference proclamation until after the Tour – can you imagine the phallometer points deduction for that?

Totto Bearing

I’m glad it was audio, not text, because it rings of a wise shakespearean bloke who—-loves toto.

Then why has his picture been on the cover 6x since the Nov 2008 issue? The 3 in a row right after his return announcement was fairly nauseating and I thought my subscription got supplanted with Bicycling.

I’ll preface this by saying that I’m not a fan of any doping.

Doping or not Lance is big business. He brings money and attention to our sport. You can’t say you weren’t entertained. The Tour was definitely a better one with his return.

He’s definitely not the only one and it doesn’t effect you personally. I could only understand if it were a local doper. Why bother with all this debate and talk and enjoy it for what it is.
