Toga East

Shop information

Toga’s new digs on the East Side of Manhattan at 63rd Street and 1st Avenue are polished, average sized, and full of specialized. A small storefront leads back from bikes to an expansive clothing area with repairs made in the basement. Specialized is, without a doubt, the dominant model offered by this Specialized Concept store. That doesn’t mean you won’t find Gurus and other lines here, but if Specialized ever came out with a full set of home appliances, this would be a good place to check.

In terms of accessories, selection is limited compared to a larger retail shop like Toga West or Metro on Varick, but you’ll find some of the more preferred kinds of lube (like Rock n’ Roll or Prolink Gold) and other equipment. Booties, gloves, and other cold weather gear are also predominantly Specialized, but for those who swear by their gloves and bright red booties, you’ll find plenty of what you need. Toga East also carries Giordana [including jersey replicas], Castelli, Gore, and other names.

The mechanic and supply area here is hidden away – but take it from this young journalist : It’s really, really clean. With trusty mechanics from Toga West working the repairs, this is a real safe bet for any bike. And yes, they do repairs on non-Specialized models. In an undercover mechanical diagnosis check, Toga East staff correctly recognized irregularities in a crankarm as residue from lamination and not stress cracks, where a misdiagnosis could have led to a heavy replacement fee.
