The Manning Children’s Education Trust: A portion of the proceeds will be donated to ‘The Manning Children’s Education Trust’ – a  college fund setup for the daughters of Joe Manning – a good friend and teammate – who lost his life during a mountain biking trip in Utah this summer.

Raffle: Guy’s Bicycles has been generous enough to donate some cool cross-specific items which will be raffled off on race day.  Ticket prices will be $5 for one, $10 for two, $15 for three or $20 for five.  100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Manning Children’s Education Trust.  Tickets may be purchased both in advance (see order form at the bottom of the page) or on the day of the event.

 Items up for raffle include : 

  1. A full set (front & back) of TRP Eurox Cantilever Brakes;
  2. A pair of Michelin Mud tires;
  3. A pair of Crank Brothers Egg Beater SL pedals; and
  4. A pair of Time ATAC Alium pedals.

The Venue:  The course is located at Bryn Athyn College’s athletic field area.  We’re going to make a few tweaks – but it will largely be the same course as last year’s.  The course will be a nice mix of grass, pavement, gravel and dirt.  Something for everyone!  Check out some of last year’s action:WhirlyBird 2008 Video
 
PRE-RIDING IS NOT PERMITTED PRIOR TO THE DAY OF THE EVENT.

The Facilities:
  We will have full access to the newly renovated Asplundh Field House on race day, with full access to its rest rooms and HOT SHOWERS.  Food concession will be available – serving hot and cold food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
 
Bryn Athyn College is a dry campus.  Please respect this.  As such – NO ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION PERMITTED ON CAMPUS during our event.

Registration: Online registration closes on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 9:00 PM (EST). 

Note:  Please register online to avoid paying the additional $5 day of race registration fee.  Late fees do not apply to the Junior category.  Late registrants – please complete a 2009 USA Cycling Event Release Form before proceeding to the sign-in line.  

$5 discount on second race entry for the same registrant.

On-site number pick-up and same-day registration will be available at the registration. Same-day registration and packet pick-up is open from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm and closes 45 minutes prior to the start of each category race. Riders must present themselves at the Rider Assembly Area/Start Grid 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start of their race.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN!!!

Licensing Requirements:   This is a USA Cycling sanctioned event – permit pending.  All riders must present a valid license at registration and sign an event release form (minors must have a parent/guardian sign).  One-day and annual licenses will be available for purchase at registration.  

*** YOUR RACING AGE IS YOUR AGE AS OF DECEMBER 31st, 2010 (not 2009).

Call-up Protocol:  At the promoter’s discretion.

Lapped Riders:  Lapped riders will finish on the same lap as the leaders.  Riders in danger of being lapped must yield to oncoming racers and are not to interfere with their progress or trail behind them.

Results:  Results will be posted at the registration area.  Results will be made final 15 minutes after being posted.  The top 3 finishers in every event must report immediately to the Asplundh Field House for awards and photos.

Note:  The course will be open for inspection and warm-up at approximately 8:00am.  
Mountain bikes will be allowed WITHOUT bar ends.  No aero bars.

The Manning Cup: We’ve named the Cat 4 ("C") race the “Manning Cup” in honor of our fallen teammate Joe Manning.  Thank you to Warren Holzman of Iron Studio Ltd. (www.ironstudioltd.com/) for creating the amazing handmade work of art which will be presented to the winner of the race.
Medical/First Aid:  In the unfortunate event of an emergency dial 911.  First-Aid and Medical Treatment of minor injuries will be available at registration.  If you have a non-life threatening injury and need to go to the hospital, the nearest hospital is Holy Redeemer Health System located at 1648 Huntingdon Pike in MeadowbrookPA (3.82 miles away).  The phone number is 215-947-3000. 
 
Directions to Holy Redeemer Health System:  From the Asplundh Field House parking lot, take a left onto Buck Road toward Huntingdon Pike.  Turn left onto Huntingdon Pike/ PA-232.  End at 1648 Huntingdon Pike.
Race Cancellation Policy:  Because this course includes sensitive areas of the college campus, the host institution has adopted guidelines to cancel the race if the race would cause significant damage to the property. In the event ofheavy rain and water-drenched grounds, the event will be cancelled. The race promoter will make its best efforts to determine the status of the race by 9 pm on September 25th. However, the race promoter does reserve the right to cancel the event and/or categories on race day. If the race is cancelled on September 25th, an e-mail will be sent to all registered participants and a notice placed on the event web site www.guysracing.org. Every effort will be made to hold the race, modifying the course if necessary. If the race is canceled as described, then registration fees, less transaction costs, will be refunded. 

Johnny Appleseed Festival:  From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the 5th annual Johnny Appleseed Festival will feature children’s arts and crafts, story-telling by "Johnny Appleseed", art activities, cider-making with an antique apple press, children’s clothesline art show, apple tree planting, apple dessert sale and “Autumn in the Orchard” group show.  Admission is free. We will have access to four parking areas for the race.  The main parking area area is located at 2755 Buck Road.  The other three areas are located near the course.  Race volunteers will be available to direct you to any of the other parking areas if necessary.
