Welcome to the VelocityNation test site

Feedback here, please!

There are a few new features you should know about:

Search! It works!

Comments: Logged in users can flag comments to the editors. Anonymous users cannot post using a registered user name, so no imposters, and you must log in to post as yourself. Logged in users can also recommend comments by clicking the ‘Recommend’ star by the comment. Top voted comments are listed in various places.

RSS feeds: There is one feed for all content, found on the home page. Also, each story with comments offers a comment feed so you can keep up with the latest snark.

Promotions: If you’ve got an event of interest, you can create a promotion for it that will be listed in the events calendar and the promotions block and pages.

Events: If you’re putting on a race, you can list it yourself by creating an event for the calendar.

Galleries: For you photographers, no more dealing with that big meanie Andy. You can create your own galleries. With captions! Searchable captions!

Submitting: It should now be a lot easier to submit a story to the site, so get to it, be it blog, race report, interview, or equipment review.

What else? Probably some more stuff that will come to mind later.

Team pages: Team managers can take over maintaining their team pages. Just contact us so we know it’s really your team and we’ll set it up.

As the site is currently in testing, we expect a few pot holes (ha ha), and we expect you to call them out like an A-SIG NYCCer. (ouch)

Please tell us by adding a comment below.

There are some problems we know about, mostly in the old content from the old site, such as missing photos, bad links and weird formatting. We may get around to fixing this eventually. Also, some old comments may not have made the transition. So sorry.

If you encounter a problem of a visual nature, please tell us which web browser and version number you’re using. (We’re lazy and haven’t tested every page against every browser version.)

It the problem is an error message you saw, please copy the message and paste it in your comment below.

Suggestions are also appreciated!

If the problem is your attitude, remember that you’re logged in, so we know who you are. You will be curbed!

Thanks for your help, and enjoy the site.

So much good work on this site. Really appreciate it. I’d still urge elimination of the anonymous comments. Maybe just try it for a month.

[caveat: I’m not wearing my own skinsuit in the picture, I’m not a state champion, but it’s one of the better pictures of me racing otherwise.]

I just want an RSS feed every Monday morning that points directly to the weekend’s bike race pictures that I am in. Wait… scratch that… i want it Sunday morning following the race.

I’ve tried creating a new member using the user name “Slam Boom” which in the old system wasn’t the “User Name” I used but instead the actual member name I provided. The new site process accepted the initial info telling me that a password had been sent to the email address I provided. No password received so far.

Similar results for trying to get a new password sent using the old member info. No new password email received.

Oh, in posting this the name I initially used, “Slam Boom,” was rejected as belonging to a registered user.

The new site uses your old username, not your first and last name. It looks like the emails were sent. Might want to check your spam folder.

In Firefox 3.0.1 after creating a new user account I get a page with a section for profile info that has no formatting.

**********
* profile_about: About Me profile_link1: Link 1 profile_link2: Link 2 profile_link3: Link 3 profile_name: Name profile_age: Age profile_category: Racing Category profile_team: Team Affiliation profile_ridingstyle: Riding Style profile_favecyclist: Favorite Cyclist profile_occupation: Occupation profile_location: Location
* Your password and further instructions have been sent to your e-mail address.

I did get a password by email through a different email provider so I’d guess at this point that something is rejecting the email address I used for the old and first time new attempt setups. I did test emails to the problem email domains and they worked fine. I also checked the spam folders.

Mr Shen,

I have been scrupulously compiling a compendium of classic posts, as well as chronologizing the important historical developments since the creation of NYVeloCity, specializing (as you may know) in the NYVeloCivil War. The thought of old posts not being carried over has me extremely troubled, to say the least. If you plan to take down the old site, please let me know the timeframe. I wasn’t planning on publishing until 2009, but will have to accelerate my research efforts if necessary. Kind regards.

We’ll copy over all the old comments once the old site is shut down. It’s a big pain, and we don’t want to do it more than we have to. They’re all there, every little whine, complaint and accusation. You’ll get them all back and they’re searchable.

Thank you vixen.

Rest assured, Mr Schmalz, that no one was more terrified than me. I prefer to stay under the radar with my research, and only post intermittently when a little historical context is appropriate, and illuminating to the NYVeloCitizens and readership. Detailing the ins and outs of this fantastic website has been my life’s vocation, and my research is only 25% complete, at best.

I had noticed – my hands tremble even to type it – that the “graveyard” of old posts, as you once put it, had already been emptied. We were quite concerned, and called an emergency meeting of the NYVeloCity Hall of Injustice (myself, Toni, Todd, Dr Uccisore Abejorro, the Velocity Salute Professor, Moosehunter) to discuss. Sounds like that may have been premature.

The new site is nice.

On the galleries, I havent been able to figure out how to email a link to a particular page/single image, or even what the URL of one is. Perhaps that’s intentional, but with your old site I often emailed people links to particular pages.

“Perhaps that’s intentional, but with your old site I often emailed people links to particular pages.”

Yes, JT, I’m sure they did that to thwart you.

Can not link to Schmalz’s journal. When attempted, in addition to opening up, an error message comes up and closes the process down. Please fix soon, I can not live without knowing how his last 2 races played out.

i don’t like how the subject populates with the first few words of the subject if it is left blank. is this necessary?
