Off-Topic for 10/30/2010 – 02:00

Welcome to the Tue, 10/30/2010 – 02:00 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?

Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.

USCF Board of Trustees proposed 2010 legislation

This year, other than the many proposed championship items, there are four proposals that represent the biggest changes:

1) The default field limit of 100 that is used in road races would be extended to cyclo-cross. In addition, the concept of a course limit which restricts the total number of competitors on the course at once has been proposed.

2) There is a major update and rewrite of the rules concerning clubs and teams that proposes several changes, shifting the focus from sponsored clubs to active clubs (that promote a race etc.); recognizing that clubs may have more than one race team; and allowing the possibility of a rider to be a member of different teams for different disciplines (road/track/cx)), including a team
organized by a club other than his own.

3) There are two proposals to significantly limit the equipment for races involving junior riders under the age of 17, including banning tubular and composite wheels, and limiting aero handlebar extensions. The proposals follow the model of current Australian restrictions. Both proposals would take effect in 2012. They differ in how they are applied: one version limits riders equipment in any race, based on the age of the rider (similar to our current rules on junior gears); the other proposal has the same equipment specifications but only applies them in races for the specific U17 age groups.

4) There is a proposal to ban helmet cams.
