As the Toto Turns Cyclesport 2

Breaking up is hard to do

Schmalz was traveling yesterday, so no new Toto. Instead we offer this one we did for CycleSport on August 25th, right when Vino was separating the Hog from Astana. Please support this and other classy fare by subscribing to CycleSport.

Aug 25 Toto is still timely given the article on Cyclingnews about the Kazakhs claiming to still hold Bruyneel (and Kloden, Popo, Rast, and Zubeldia) under contract through 2010.

Maybe I’m just naive, but is it normal for all teams to have used syringes to throw out as part of every race? If so, what are the typical legal substances that a rider would have injected before a race.

If it’s not normal, than Astana has some real explaining to do especially if the French find prohibited substances.

Can someone explain how syringes are not a big deal?

The TDF provides industrial size “sharps” containers like those found at a doctor’s office for all medical waste – there are plenty of legally injectable substances that a TDF doctor can administer – Botox – see Linus Gerdaman’s eyes, H1N1 vaccine etc.
