Early on we’d work on each Toto for a few days, but we eventually settled into a routine where we’d write it on Monday and I’d stay up late and draw it in time for Tuesday. I must’ve been busy with my real job this Monday, ’cause I tried to do it in color and eventually gave up.

I had just been to the San Diego tunnel to photograph Kristin Armstrong, so I had lots of shots to use as template for this one. Kristin just won the gold medal in the Olympics TT.

The source photo for frame 6 is actually Craig Upton and Kraig Willet checking out Kristin’s position on the monitor. I gave Kristin a pot belly to make her Toto.
