was he really DQ’d? that should never occur (when properly executed). w/o a well-conceived and well-thrown 2-handed salute, frankly, it doesnt count in my book. id rather throw the VS and get DQ’d. points, “results”, your name with a 1 next to it? please. who gives a 5hit. a funny victory salute (esp. in front of the family) is a sweet sweet joy that no DQ can ever take away
anyone who seriously hates on a victory salute has either never been in a position to (or didnt the have the ovaries to) rock one.

Last post makes no sense. I think the post re: the hat was targeting Scott Willingham. 2nd – Cat 5s need to chill. Winning a 10 man field at FB/12miles or so in the Cat5s is nothing to go crazy about. Loose some weight and race up. Also, wearing a Scott Mnt Bike kit to match your white Scott Addict Road bike is not “Pro as shit” and very Cat 5.

who’s going crazy, guy? the cat 5 who won a race, or the fool commenting on his wardrobe? he threw a salute. as he should have. no better time to start training the salute than cat 5.
no doubt you’ll get a closer look at the kid’s jersey and victory salute in no time, though … from the back, that is. have patience.
also, if i remember correctly, USACycling’s technical director stated that victory salutes should *NOT* be an automatic DQ. how do i know this? because i spend zero time hating on cat 5s, and more time understanding my sport. i guess some of us have a need to know whether our victory salutes are legitimate … and some of us don’t.
at 6:07am, i was actually in the park, practicing my sprint (and my salutes). and what were you doing? staring at pics of cat 5s on the internet looking for waldrobe malfunctions? really? have fun with that, clown.

“Taking the hands off the handlebars
About twice a year I get a report of a rider who won a race and was then disqualified for taking his hands off the bars for a victory salute. The problem with this is that the rule disallowing that went away at least 2 years ago. There is no rule that says you cannot take your hands off the handlebars anymore. We do have the following general rule:
1O7. Dangerous Rider. Any rider who appears to present a danger to the other competitors may be disqualified by the Chief Referee, either before or during a race.
My feeling is that a CR will have a hard time declaring a rider to be dangerous for taking hands off the bars if there is no incident. Clearly, if the rider takes his hands off the bars in a tight sprint, loses control of his bike, and causes a crash, then he did present a danger and can be dealt with accordingly. But please, if a rider is clear by a bike length and gives a two-handed victory salute and causes no issue, it is just petty to disqualify that rider. As a slow amateur rider for 15 years I can tell you that the dismally few moments of fleeting glory are what make the years of training worth it.
In summary, I would say that if a rider takes his hands off the bars in a victory salute, most of the time there should be nothing said about it, other than to congratulate the rider. If it was in a very close sprint where only for the grace of God did people not go down, then a warning is in order. If you disqualify or relegate the rider, I would also expect to be receiving an accident report along with the CR report.”
