Welcome to the Tue, 09/11/2012 – 06:00 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?

Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.

Schiatuzzo Stiff

John Eustice, a two-time U.S. professional cycling champion, said the group is wrong to assert that it would strip Armstrong of honors such as the Tour de France titles. The tour owner would decide that, he said.
“It’s a private enterprise and a private race,” he said.

He said people who go into arbitration “have no chance to win.”

Armstrong’s move isn’t an admission of guilt. It’s a reaction to an agency’s “unmitigated power with complete overreach” that is cowing other sports agencies.

“They feel that they have this world authority to do whatever they want,” he said. “He’s Moby Dick. They finally got Moby Dick.”

Unlike other riders who have been caught for doping, Landis showed none of the red flags.

“You can always connect the dots,” Eustice said of other riders who have been caught. They train in out-of-the-way mountain areas where doping control regulators have trouble locating them. They fail or have dubious prior tests and are associated with others who have been in similar trouble.

Eustice is wrong in his statement on ESPN. FIFA has signed the WADA code. All international federations representing Olympic sports are required to sign the WADA code. By calling for pulling out of WADA,Eustice is calling for the withdrawal of cycling from the Olympics and for legalizing doping.
