Welcome to the Tue, 06/13/2013 – 06:00 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?
Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.
For 38 years the kid’s races at Harlem had no sponsor and gave out free bikes to the winners. Now there’s a company proudly proclaiming sponsorship but there will be no bikes. Sham sponsorship is not cool.
ouch, that is sad. Too bad that tradition is lost
Yes, the $69 K-Mart special that Eustice gave out was really useful for the up and coming young cyclist.
What’s worse I think is that Rockstar took their sponsorship away from Harlem to the Red Hook Crit. RHC doesn’t even need any more sponsors but I guess is much cooler than Harlem.
I know for ballers like yourself a $69 K-mart bike doesn’t mean much, but to others it does. And it’s more than just the cheap bike that was given away, it was that long time tradition, you probably don’t know much about those sorts of things given your comment though.
Alas, the tradition of the awkwardness of the children not wanting their prize and leaving the bikes against the judges stand to have the clean up crew deal with them is lost. A moment of silence please.
With that, I think we’re done here.
I guess you’re too young to remember the bikes David Walker gave out , often paying out of how own pocket.
Helluva ride today!!!! Why aren’t we talking about that?!
