Off-Topic for 02/15/2011 – 06:00

Welcome to the Tue, 02/15/2011 – 06:00 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?

Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.

still ticketing. Saw 4 cyclists pulled over in my 5 lap early afternoon ride in a sparsely used park.

is it really as bad as people say it is? how many lights do you typically hit during a lap going, say, 15-18mph avg?

They must still be shooting fish in a barrel. On my commute into Midtown this a.m., literally every other cyclist I saw at a red light went through it. Every single one.

You need to stop at least 5-6 times or slow down look all around and behind. I stopped at some lights and walked across the intersection and got back on. In the northern part of the park, I looked around and then went through. Not all of the lights are timed well so even if your catching greens and going 20 mph, you still get caught at lights. The whole things messes up your training at between being frustrated/pissed off and the natural inclination to make lights, you end up riding harder than you really want to, otherwise you get stopped at many more lights. Just sucks.

As this nonsense continues, CPC vehicles continue to roll through red lights during car free hours. Yeah, I guess I see how its safe for vehicles to go through red lights in the park, but not for bicycles.

Next off day or easy day in the park, I am taking my Flip video camera into CP and filming this stuff. The bladers, the jay walkers the NYRRC vehicle and the CPC vehicle not stopping at the lights, the golf cart cutting me off and crossing against traffic and my favorite…. the cart vendor truck taking up the whole road and not obeying the lights. Then I am emailing the results to everyone of power and I suggest you do the same.
Stop the stupidity. Stop the unfairness towards us.
Act the f+ck up and do somethihng people!

the DOT has no interest in changing the lights in Central Park. Until Bloomberg and Kelly are gone, cycling in the park is dead.

i’m going to pee in my chamois from now on whilst riding in the park, as a solitary act of definace to this outrageous display of enforcement.
