NYVelocity welcomes NYC Velo (now say that five times fast).

In a city full of generic bike shops with generic services staffed by non-cyclists, NYC Velo takes the bike shop to the next level. For the cyclist, by the cyclist is the best way to describe this place.

Owner Andrew Crooks, an avid MTB and cyclocross racer, takes his business seriously. He carries parts and brands that he himself would ride and has attracted some of the best salespeople and most meticulous mechanics around in just a few weeks. The space itself is very well designed–no bikes hanging from the ceiling, no barriers between you and the mechanics, free coffee & bagels, a lounge area to shoot the breeze, and if that wasn’t enough a flat screen TV showing, you guessed it, cycling. It’s also a labor of love. Andrew renovated the space himself, with a little help from friends and family.

The staff is diverse and extremely knowledgeable in everything from top of the line race bikes to daily commuting bikes. Andrew’s first question to prospective employees is, “Do you ride a bike?” Duh! It should be a given for a bike shop employee but if you asked around town you’d be surprised how many guys in shops really ride. (Hint: it’s probably not enough to give you any real feedback on how that Hollowgram 613 handles).
