why are there so many idiots on this planet, the guy is asking a question, if you don’t have the answer mind your own f-in retarded business… u are clearly an insecure cat 10 a hole who wishes he can ride a bike… lol
Word to the anonymous posters – it’s still the late winter and you don’t want to attack too soon. The NY cycling season is long and you don’t want to expend your anonymous vitriole too soon.
Um. Isn’t that how races work? If only some guys would attack at the first pedal stroke. Then each PP Cat 4 race wouldn’t play out like a tired soap opera.
Well, train more and you get to pedal in such a way as to go faster and therefore make the race faster. Even better, get a group of your friends to do the same and the whole race will be faster. Physics is amazing!!
And on that note, was anybody in the 3/4 field at the FBF last year when Charlie basically yelled at us for being so slow. I think there may have been a curse or two in their questioning our manhood. I was breathing out my ears during the first few laps.
I don’t know much about tactics, but it seems like it can take a couple tries to get a good break going. It is a 24 mile race. A lot of it depends on whether you’re racing PP to “win” or to actually learn and experiment. If you’re racing to win (and have a sprint), you’d be best to just sit in the pack and watch a bunch of guys burn matches for nothing. Odds are with you. If you’re racing to learn, then you might as well try to get something going … no?
What guys find frustrating is that they aren’t fast enough to break solo, it is always tough to find a good group to break, and they’re left to sit with the pack for a dumb ass 4 field sprint. If that annoys you, then why stay there? Keep trying to get something going.
field size will be smallish ~15-20ish id say. dont worry about speed. if you can ride 17-18mph laps in the parks solo, you can hang in a cat 5 race. go for it & enjoy.
As a lowly Cat 4 who shows up for every one of the PP races, I for one welcome any new addition that might add some variety to the gerbil-wheel laps.
And while I’m feeling magnanimous, let me say that I’m happy to see that while everything else is going to sh*t (economy, jobs, real estate, cost of living, etc. etc.), I’m glad that some folks are willing to invest more time and money in NYC bike racing. It would be just as easy for the promoters to say, “Times are tough, we’re cutting back, we’re not going to try for more sponsors, etc.”. But aside from a small reg fee increase, what I’m seeing is pretty much just the opposite. So a sincere thanks to the organizers and sponsors.
And to the a**holes who just come here to bitch, sarcastic or not, piss off.
That’s all. I feel much better now.
The premes made the races more interesting this morning. It also kept the pace high, and that’s a good thing especially in cat4.
The competition almost caused a split for the second KOR bell. If it had succeeded it would have been unprecedented (and maybe a first) for a Cat4 prospect park race!
this morning was my first cat4 race of the season. the first two laps were fine at about a 25mph pace, then at lap 3, when the fight started over the points. it was ridiculous at a 28mph. i found it to be super fast to the point that we split into two groups. well, now i have an idea about what the sprint and KOM points add to the race.. good luck everybody
Stick with it and try to find better wheels next time. 65% of the 4 race was spent under 20mph. And 85% was spent under 25mph. If you’re behind a wheel at 25mph you should be ok. The perceived effort was high because the group kept getting stretched out.
Matty McNatty { Imagine if circa 2010 Netflix could have done one of these docudramas on the CRCA scene in those days? Greg Olsen, Colin Prensky, and that... }
{ Great Stuff Dan!!! }
pommespommes { Glad your back to blogging. I wish there was more race reporting/news in the NYC area (other than f*cebook) from both 1st and 3rd person.... }
{ You “gifted” the field the first race of the year. Eddy isn’t pleased. }
Benzina { Schmalz is back. Life is better, somehow. }
schmalz { There's no dignity in amateur bike racing }
Who can tell us the current road condition of this course?
Thanks

I know what the persons problem is… they’re suffering from low self esteem and the only way they can build it is by mocking others…
and the only way they can do it is by hiding behind a computer…
awwwwwwww… how sad 🙁
😛
is in pretty good shape. there is one deep pothole (near 3rd) street to watch out for. Other than that it’s in pretty good shape
a little choppy in the center for about 30 feet or so, but not bad

Pacing, people, pacing…
I will attack on the first pedal stroke of the first race.
I will attack on the second pedal stroke. Then I’m dropping out and shutting down until April.
Um. Isn’t that how races work? If only some guys would attack at the first pedal stroke. Then each PP Cat 4 race wouldn’t play out like a tired soap opera.
We crawl around the park at a snail’s pace
guys complain about the pace of races.

God I miss FBF…May, right?
Bring. It.
Accellerating and watching everyone follow suit chasing you down. This becomes boring and those really racing sit up therefore slowing the race.
Well it’s freakin’ February, so I’m sitting behind you guys BRRRRRR
i’m going to ride at the front and fart the entire race.

About what is the average speed and field size?

How will they decide KOM points?
Great. Lets reward them twice. Once for winning 80% of races then pay them again for the same effort.
Genius

In Prospect Park Breakaway refers to bones and bike parts.

KOR is short for King Of the Rise.

Am I deaf and blind? The only bell I saw or heard was that lady with a cowbell, but nobody was sprinting anywhere in the 4 race.
The sprint was up the road, there were 3 riders with a gap on the field in the 4s.
