Benefits of sponsorship? Greg Avon and Anthony Van Dunk charge less and offer bigger prize money for their races and they don’t have any sponsors.

Hey, Charlie I. puts on a TON of races. One of the guys, who along with Mike Green, and Avon and AVD, keep local racing going. A few bucks here, a bucks there…the main thing is, are there races? Answer is, yeah there’s tons of races thanks to those guys.

Farinata Axle

Really? You’re going to start bitching about entry fees in March? REALLY? Are you going to go through the effort of planning and promoting a race SERIES yourself? No? STFU.

Set Maxhead

Why is it ok to criticize AVD but not ok to ask a valid question about Isendorf?
Although there are plenty of races in the spring around here, Charlie( “who has so much work already”) starts “FBF Spring Series” that run on the same day as THE SPRING SERIES?

Tristan Plug

Crosswalk guards who blow their whistles REAL hard, copious leader jersey’s and longer races. Not worth it? Don’t go. Its supply and demand and they sold out last year.

Tibo Dry Lube

You all don’t realize how good you have it here. Ride to a race, and home by 10am, sometimes Sat and Sun. Does not happen anywhere else.

green dots

Last I checked, Greg Avon and AvD did not have these extra jersey competitions so what is your question exactly Brent? If you want to nickle and dime the promoters, you’re in this sport for the wrong reason. If you want real prize $$, Europe is only a flight ticket away.

This isn’t the 80s-90s anymore, I don’t see these promoter showing up with bling bling from doing this. If they promote it because they love cycling and you race because of money, see anything wrong with this picture? It should be the other way around!

Domenico Setscrew

They talking about a crit on june 19 at Washington Heights. with money and cheap entry fee.

Adam Headbadge

Charlie’s races cost a little more but A) they’re not a field-mixing marshall-free crapfest and B) they’re worth a few extra bucks just for Charlie’s pre-race “Don’t Crash in a Field Sprint Rinky Dink Local Race, You Dumbass” Speech.

The chief of police in Piermont advised me that starting today they will be specifically looking for cyclists not riding sigle file. They stopped a group of guys this morning and were ready to issue summonses but I begged him to issue a warning and he did. I told him I would post it online in hopes of alerting riders. They will issue tickets under Vehicle Traffic Law violations which go against licenses. In the past they were just Village ordinance tickets. I live in Piermont and my taxes are astronomical, I think that’s the only reason they issued the warning. I told him they were friends of mine.

Warre Gel

why don’t those a-holes start by not letting cars park on those narrow streets. those are much worse than two cyclists riding two abreast (which takes up less space than a car, and is moving)

I’m getting really sick of the disdain those people have for cyclists.

Thomas Gel

those sucky river towns in Rockland County. Stay up on top of the Ridge and get your coffee at the bike shop in Fort Lee.

Jean Internal Routing

piermont cops getting tough on bike crime by day…and zealously ironing their uniforms at night. piermont’s finest, no doubt.

mikeweb

I like the boycott idea. If those shops that like to charge over $7 for a stinkin’ coffee and muffin combo suddenly had 0 cyclists in there on the weekends, that may get some attention.

My bet though is that the cycling community doesn’t have that level of organization…

Norma Rae

Oh yeah bike boycott that’ll show ’em. If there was a boycott, Nyack and PIermont would throw a week-long parade.

Just ride your bike, obey the rules, which are basically there for everyone’s safety, and stop being such a crybaby martyr.

Lennert Brifter

99%, half of which comes from the chubby old men in 90s Saeco kits who sit around for 4 hours every Sunday.

Bernardi Steerer

i resent being called chubby, and for the record, i rotate the saeco kit with the carrera denim kit every other weekend. gotta stay fresh.

Ilias Threadlock

Charlie’s a good promoter. We’d all be lost and crying in the (urban) wilderness without him.

Not surprisingly the cop is lying. A ticket you get on your bike does not go against your drivers license. Riding a bike does not require a license so they can’t put points on what you don’t have. You should never show a drivers license as ID when you get stopped on the bike. Otherwise you might run into an ignorant court clerk who will put it in as a driving offense. You can get it reversed, but it is a pain. Remember, it might be against the law for you to lie to a cop, but it is not against the law for them to lie to you.

Antoine Wave Ring

Topcap is partially right, when you get ticketed for a town ordinance violation on a bicycle it does not affect your driver`s license, you should still check before you rush to pay the fine, as every town has its own way of interpreting things that could still compromise you.On the other hand moving violations such as going thru a red light WILL count for points against your license, keep in mind that nowhere on the ticket does it specify that you were riding a bike so when you pay the fine as far as the clerk is concerned, you were DRIVING,If you pay online even worse POINTS!
I got nailed twice already at the Alpine Approach light and ended up having to go to that Pal Pkwy court to ‘plea bargain’ it down to ‘illegal parking’ of all things!! ($54.00) got no points but spent the whole afternoon in that court, that’s gotta be worse court anywhere in the area, some of you know what i’m talking about.
Also, NY riders who get ticketed(moving violation) in Jersey don’t assume that it will not affect your NY license, NY and NJ MVS share information (reciprocity) be aware of that before you pay the fine, you might wanna contest it.
The following is the ordinance as it pertains to riding ‘two abreast’ in New Jersey, this might not apply to the Wilson group, since they were in Piermont NY

39:4-14.2, 39:4-10.11 Operating Regulations.
Every person riding a bicycle on a roadway shall ride as near to the right roadside as practicable exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction. A bicyclist may move left under any of the following conditions: 1) To make a left turn from a left turn lane or pocket; 2) To avoid debris, drains, or other hazardous conditions on the right; 3) To pass a slower moving vehicle; 4) To occupy any available lane when traveling at the same speed as other traffic; 5) To travel no more than two abreast when traffic is not impeded, but otherwise ride in single file. Every person riding a bicycle shall ride in the same direction as vehicular traffic.

In New Jersey, the law states a bicyclist must obey all state and local automobile driving laws. A parent may be held responsible for the child’s violation of any traffic law.

As you read there, you ARE allowed to ride two abreast. Print this and carry it with you, don’t be shy about challenging this cops with it (diplomatically, of course), you’d be surprised how few of them actually know this.

Here’s the link to the New Jersey DOT Bicycle laws. If someone out there has something similar for NY, please post it up. be safe out there, peace!

give the piermont cops a break. it’s a tough job out there–sometimes they have to deal with a lost kitten or, worse, an occasional jaywalker. high stress, no doubt.

respect

are you kidding? i bet there’s occasional under-age drinking, and possibly even a runaway horse from time to time.

“two abreast when traffic is not impeded” is a good phrase to remember. just single-file your group when cars are coming up behind you, especially if there’s a bunch of them, or if they are coming in both directions – really, this is what most of us consider to be common sense anyway. if they’re going to ticket you when you aren’t holding up a line of cars or making someone go way into the oncoming lane at a dangerous moment to get around you, then the cops are simply hassling you because they want to, in my opinion.

Erwan Ferrule

there was a rash of crimes committed against squirrels in piermont recently, but that’s not important right now.

a cry for help

won’t somebody PLEASE speak up for the rights of those who wish to pop out from in between cars in order to jaywalk without looking? this underserved group is in constant danger thanks to cyclists, or as i like to call them, the motor-less assassins. join me in lobbying for a new ordinance requiring these silent monsters to strap a combustion engine to their backs while riding, so that those who choose not to look both ways can hear them coming.

Vieri Topcap

If you run a red light on a bike, you do not get points on your license. I know, I’ve had the misfortune of this happening to me. Again, don’t show a drivers license as ID or an ignorant court clerk will process it just like a driver running a red light and points will go on your license. Also, unless things have recently changed, if you have a NY license and get a ticket in NJ, nothing happens as long as you take care of the ticket. No points go on your license. It’s all about the money, so pay the fine and you have no worries.
