What is the time frame of the power outputing being discussed?
15 seconds at 1000 watts average is a lot. An instantaneous reading of 1000 watts is nothing. The Sherwen/Liggett figures might be accurate as average output over an entire sprint.
maybe they are speaking in eurowatts. I used to think that Sherwin was a little lost when he exclaimed about 90-100 psi until I learned he was speaking of europsi.
but I can hardly take their continuous mistatements. Today they were commenting on Egoi Martinez putting out 227 watts in the field and Paul said to bear in mind that during the sprints, McEwen and Boonen put out between 750 and 1000 watts! That might get them a sprint win in the C race. Where are they getting all their misinformation from!!
Your prologue looked great. Who’d you have to pay off to get the weather sorted for the big day? That’s quite an accomplishment given what’s it been like there in the past few weeks (or so I’m told).
Hope all is going well in the UK, you are missed here in NYC.
Best,
PL
versus broadcasts all the cage crap and boxing because they, along with cycling, are the outcasts of the “media” world. no one gives a crap about boxing or cage fighting. did you see what was on after the tour this morning? strongman. another outcast. idk about the IRS tho
My wife likes to watch the soccer channel, and it isn’t the “beautiful game” that she finds beautiful.
is that an entry in the cockney rhyming slang contest?
Read that in the trades too. VS tried to glom on to some of the success of Spike. The ladies liked it better as OLN, even if it was the same basic show lineup, they didn’t like the packaging.
What do Bull Riding, Cage Fighting and Cycling all have in common? The potential for huge bloody specticles. Part of the fun of watching these is the potential for the bull rider getting gored, the boxer being pummeled bloody, or the rider to turn his ass in to hamburger. Versus should rebrand itself as BloodTV, to tie the disparate programming threads together. I even see the rebranding ad campaign “BloodTV, ’cause chicks dig scars!”
when will itunes have cycling coverage?
Cycling.tv or even VS, should put stages, classics and smaller stages in iTunes.
So the hunt’n gals all hoarded over to the other channels that run shooting and fishin programming? Is it the brand change or the ongoing programming eclecticism thats a mess for them? How do they fix it? Cycling all the time? Nope. Fishing all the time? Nope. Bull roping all the time? Yeeehaaawww! Thats the ticket…
Versus as a brand is a mess. They lost major market share when they changed from OLN. Turns out a lot of their core were outdoorsy type women who like huntin’ and fishin’. VS and the it’s branding efforts were a real turn off.
don’t forget the fishpen
liggett plugging extreme cage fighting was too funny.
and im dying for new paltz’s TdF commentary – has he been bored (to death) from jets?
think that cycling fans like cage fighting and owe money to the IRS?
riding in the peloton at a heart rate of 100. That’s messed up.
andy…how about a cockney rhyme contest in honor of england hosting 2 days of the tour?
uh…sure?
London came off really, really well.
I did read that Mark Cavendish got in a fight with a spectator, but they were probs arguing over Man U or something.
Chain dropper dropped 4 times (that I saw)
Cancellara: doper? Not a doper?
Kloden: probs doper!
Aside from the road divider obstacles in the middle of your little roads and the low hanging tress in some narrow sections it all looked good. Crowds looked very large and enthusiastic. It was a great start to the Tour after the events of the last year.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but if I am having mechanical issues, I drop out of a race. I don’t feel the need to show how much of a strongman I am that I drop my chain 3 times, and still stayed in the race. I would rather walk away from a race than go down for a dumb reason. I would hope others showed the same courtesy.
i watched the prologue with a bunch of people and they all thought it looked pretty cool in London. And as a bonus it wasn’t even raining.
Quick poll here – just wondering (from my work capacity) how London and Kent came across as hosts for the 1st 2 stage of the Tour. I was lucky enough to be there and thought it was brilliant, but am curious as to how it came across to you good viewers in the US ? ….since this is NYVC I welcome all references to shoving tea and crumpets up my arse, but any serious comments would also be very useful – thanks….
I was just pointing out small ring is useful.
But yeah, do it right.
damn kids. i’m too old for this.
Ben was doing this all spring racing for USMA collegiately.
Except if I’m in Central Park and dropped my chain twice, why even shift to small again?
not sure where ben came from, but he’s been impressive lately. first at housatonic then at Fitchburg. he’s not long for Cat 3.
NYC dominated this one as well. Jermaine Burrowes takes the win from a three-man breakaway; Jared Bunde third. Jared established the winning move pretty much from the gun, fended off two motivated chase groups, and did the lion’s share of the work all day. Pretty impressive weekend, I’d say.
I’m a cat 2 and small ring the hill at the north end of the park sometimes, especially if things are slow. Don’t know if that was in teh case in your race, but it’s not unheard of.
Especially in the early season.
How do you drop a chain in Central Park? It’s big ring all the way. Can you say ‘recent upgrade’ ?
That guy got in the my way twice swerving to the side to fix his drivetrain. We’ve all dropped chains, but on the third one you should have bailed or at least just rode at the very back.
To the guy who dropped his chain repeatedly: I’ll forgive the first two times, but you should have pulled out after the third. Especially after someone politely suggested it. But four times?
What’s your problem? I realize that you paid a lot to race, but so did we. You put everybody in jeapordy when you do that.
