Balloon Festival
Results. Nice showing by Gabe Lloyd in the 123’s.
Silke was Wunderwald in the women’s race.
Will Riff, in Westwood colors, solos away for the 3/4 win after countering a 45 mile solo by Gisler. Rufus Pichler takes a nice 5th, 2nd in NYS.
Roger Aspholm wins by seven minutes, bitterly disappointed.
Filip Capala takes 5th in the juniors, 2nd for NYS.
Floyd TT
35 mph gusts, and not one square inch of skin grated. Where’s the carnage? Following the lead of the top two, look for the rest of the contenders to go hair free in the next TT.
Great day for ML and Sakonnet, bad day for Axis. Sherry, who works for Smiley, keeps it in the family by taking the first TT win in the post Smiley era. Accardi and Nicholson-Leener win the B’s and the women.
Mihael takes a wrong turn and does a TT. He was 4th in the ladies though…
High Bridge
@##=#<1,r>@##=#David Clinger wins, Lisban 2nd. Because nothing says ‘Sotheby’s’ like a full face tattoo. Franco Boronow 5th. Clinger read to an assembled mass of terrified children after the race.
Motor wins the 3 solo, Gisler takes 2nd.
Anyone got the rest of the results?
Prospect
Results. There was a race?
Real men don’t need little rings. Fitzy climbs Manayunk. Thanks to Jack Baranski.
Two pics of the sprint for 3rd in the Ballon Fest 3/4 race. Rufus Pichler in Kissena colors. Thanks to Brandon Lee.
Went with KH when he attacked, we got a nice gap, legs melt down on the climb, Motor drops me like a rock, we never see him again. Ended up 5th on the day.
High Bridge was crazy hard. Brilliant ride by Ken in the 3 race. Same by Gisler to take 2nd after his efforts yesterday. Race of attrition in the 1-2. The kind of race where you pass the official in a dropped group and pray he pulls you off the course. Flurry of attacks on the 1st lap saw Roger, Clinger, Eugene and others go up the road. Lisbon and Gavi bridged over the course of the 2nd lap. Jason Bremer, Peter Salon and Paolo from Westwood covered the chase group at a, thankfully, slower pace. There was no hiding from the hill, though. I feel like the Papa in Breaking Away, except instead of manically repeating, "Refund, refund, refund," I keep saying, "The hill, the hill, the hill." Deno’s Wonder Wheel rider Brian Rafferty is the new 45+NYS champ in the road race.
manayunk hill clime,
Molloy won by .001 second
The look on Ken’s face, when he crossed the line, was priceless. His smile could be seen from PA.
Nutmeg Classic Crit: Juan Pimental, Rob Lattanzi, and Kristi Roberts all take wins in masters fields.
kwk, tell more about Manayunk. What happened?
Edgemont takes the lead in the B team competition!!
I beat Jay F up Manayunk and chugged two fan-handed beers in the process.
roger is a sick dude. he came back to do the 35+ fora weebit o’e cooldown, and won that..
oh momma.
OK Ugly, that is true, but it is also true that I may have been too crunk from Jungle Juice to realize I was rolling it in my 42×17, until I almost fell over when it got even steeper.
Anyway, good job marshalling the course – I know the police and some of the other marshalls were pleased by your presence.
Heather 17th in main group. Emma just behind and Mara also finished with Anna Milkowski. Guest rider Rochelle Gimore got 5th. Competitve with top pro teams.
Margaret Shirley finsihed in main group for Comedy Central.
At Highbridge, Mengoni made a wonderful bridge early on, but that lead group didn’t seem to want to have space for more than one of them. After watching the p12 field completely blown to pieces in the second half, I no desire to even start my race. Although this race is short distance-wise for all fields, it’s hardest course I’ve done. Extremely technical and utterly relentless. It’s a beautiful race. That was the hardest thing I’ve done in a long time. I think the results would have been different had Gisler not been in a 40 mile solo move the day before.
the 123 filed had a 10 man break away get caught by 2 riders. The break was mainly 1s and 2s.
WHat happened????
Congrats KH! Yes – that course is probably the hardest course. I believe harder than Park Ridge, not good for a fat guy like me. And now totally out of shape – 2 weeks more to go before I might be able to ride outside!
park ridge is much harder. less time to recover because the laps are shorter. park ridge gets a better field too.
it was raining at 4 pm so kev and i started drinking beers, philly style, the skys cleared by 5 so we switched gears and rode to the hill clime from Mike Dee’s (of cycling TV). I was 20th 1 second slower than tenth place but 10 seconds off the winner Molloy.
I guy from dc was second and philly native Colin Sandburg was third.
It was great seeing our local women at Liberty. The women’s field was crazy fast from what we saw along the course. As they came back Kelly Drive after the first lap the field was shattered into a few large groups and countless smallers ones but it appeared that they managed to close up the gaps between the three lead packs by the end of the second lap, which included quite a few New York racers. I was really impressed by Comedy Central and Advil-Chapstick for finishing so respectably with some of the most talented and experienced international racers. Big congratulations to Heather Labance for her 17th place.
There has always been drugs in Prospect Park, I just never thought of them as the performance-enhancing kind…
Whoa — Labance came back from a puncture in Philly to help Gilmore who had issues too. What a ride for Heather – jT
