@##=#<1,r>@##=#Here’s our quick and sloppy recap:

Zoltan takes 3rd at Sturbridge, the Motor wins the 3/4. Adler does well in the 4’s. Much skin lost.

We know practically nothing about Palmer. Mark Alden was 7th in the 35+, Armand Della Monica Lewinsky 9th. Roger Aspholm was away with two others.

Luis Aquino, Juan Pimental, and Alejandro Guzman wrap up the 123’s, 35+, and 3/4’s in the Spring Series. Marco will have shots soon. Gui Nelessen wins ahead of John Durso, Franklin Burgos in the 123’s.

Pablo Ravazzani and Ellen Fedors are the stars of Kissena weekend.

Tour of Ephrata???

Gui Nelessen wins the 123’s at SS.

Chris Uglietta gets robbed. (thanks to Mary-Lynne Williams)

Addendum

@##=#<5,r>@##=#I got my Axis’ backwards, with Zoltan going well at Sturbridge and Loehner at Palmer, but Mike Margarite nips Loehner for top NYer at Palmer anyways.

Roger Aspholm does the double. LaBance just misses: LaBance, you have let me down for the last time!

NYVC’ers had solid showings, with Chris MeCray 10th at Palmer 4’s.

Edgemont needs to stop sharing water bottles, or at least stop racing in Amish country.

Mihael throws leg over bike again.

Schmalz presents child to grandparents. Child deemed cute. New York sighs as week passes without Schmalz race report.

I give myself the prize this week and put it on my bike. (But if you really really have to have one we can talk)

Adler and ML recon Palmer.

3/4 at Spring Series

Scott and Pascal went for it early and hard. Lasted c. 4 to 5 laps – after that pace eases off and from the sprint its Chris Loudon all the way. 16 year old (must be 17 by now ?) Lewis Almonte of Metro rides with extreme guts and stays off the front for the last 3 laps only to be caught up the final hill .Defo one for the future.

ADLER CREW

Chris Uglietta (Jonathan Adler) was robbed of 1st place! After tangling handlebars (Robbie McEwen style) 15m from the finish, CU had to settle for third after 60 miles of racing. Adler rode a smart race, riding upfront to stay in a good position since the roads were so narrow, making it difficult to move up if you got stuck behind. Thor (Kim Riseth) and B.Harris (ML) rode aggressively and tried pushed the pace on the third lap. But it seemed nothing was getting away. Boston Boys seemed to have a gazillion guys in the race and were marking everything. (Can we get a 9 man rule in these out of town races also?) ML guys were also up front riding smart. In the end, guys seemed really tired from the small "stepped" climbs up to the finish. Uggie rode a very smart race, climbed well and stayed "fresh" enough to unleash a monster kick. Shame he had to "ease up" going into the finish to avoid going down. Congrats to all the NYC "B" squad that made it out this weekend.(Adler,ML, lone Foundation guy(Andrew Babain), and some yellow beez) who made it out this weekend.

NYC riders didn’t fair bad too outside of their local arenas. Great showings up in New England as well as a win in Ephrata, PA by Peter Salon of GS Mengoni. Peter won the Famersville RR stage by bridging to a 2 man break late in the race and taking the sprint.

JT

Some other stuff. At Sturbridge I was parked near a bunch of CRCA women in gold-and-blue and they seemed quite enthusiastic after the race — I think they were the nyvelocity team and are newish to racing. Cool.

Sturbridge and Palmer had SRAM tech support and over the weekend Karen Ulrich and Stephen Badger both flatted and got back onto their fields. For Badger it happened with just a few miles to go at Palmer and he still sprinted well. Armand della Monica had a *ton* of speed in that finish (Palmer 35+) but seemed to come from pretty far back. His team CRCA-Blue Ribbon was very active in the race. And there were some lame crashes.

Kristi Roberts did well in the women’s 3/4 at Palmer. I heard Radical Media had a serious train going into the Sturbridge 3/4 sprint for Kimille Taylor.

And Roger Aspholm is mad strong. But you all know that.

As mentioned on another page, Brian Rafferty of Wonder Wheel was second at Sturbridge 40+. And Zoltan was 3rd in P-1-2!

Full results on the races in Mass are on Bikereg.com

At Ephrata Tony Settel was 2nd overall in the masters I think. He had major bike problems in one stage.

Luis should be banned from racing in the Spring Series next year….he’s not wearing his helmet while he is still at the race venue. On the other hand way to go Juan and Alejandro for following the strict NYC racing helmet guidlines. I know the race has been over for probably 2 hours by that point but your still thinking safety first. Kudos to you!

JT

"should be banned from racing in the Spring Series next year….he’s not wearing his helmet while he is still at the race venue."

Wow, I didn’t know the rulebook calls for a multi-race ban for that. We learn something new everyday.

lee3

So…..he removed his helmet after the race? Before the race? If this is the case…..You should lighten up a bit. As long as he was wearing it during competition. Perez is a stand up guy and I’m sure his safety is your concern but c’mon. Banning? Just ask’em to pop on a lid and be done with it.

JB

That rule is new and only applies to Prospect, Central Park and FBF.

Also don’t forget Tuesday night World Championships start tomorrow!

Chris M

Congrats to Uglietta for staying upright in the face of that over-aggressive jerk. From my vantage just behind them (seated and wheezing at that moment…), I was amazed to see what I was convinced was a crash-in-the-making. Sheesh. All for second in the 4s, no less! That photo shows the tone in the field both Sat and Sun though. Races too short or too flat to select down the field, resulting in two sprint finishes with something like 50-70 riders all trying to contest – resulting in some pretty scary stuff! Fun races in amazing weather, but I wish they were longer or something to take the fright factor down a few notches…

kwk

jb….. that would figure to give a person a muilt race ban for no helmet post race. i hope you are kidding. i am still hoping for the return of a helmetless peloton in the tour. It just looks cooler

sturbridge / palmer race weekend was a great success – the promoter does a great job with full road enclosures on part of the sturbridge course and killer moto support all around.

Great quality races mainly due to guys willing to stick their nose in the wind. Park racing is cool because it’s so convenient and there’s never any worry about getting dropped. But…if you want to see what racing is all about get out of the parks… Try some new england or NJ races it might shock most park racers, but many races actually have corners and hills – gasp!!

I didn’t see too many new yorkers at Stub/Palmer, hope to see a bunch more at jiminy. Remember these new englanders have been snowed in all year, it’s a good chance to get some points!

Anonomous Cheerleader

Wow! Who is the photo rep-ing on the Adler team? Hard core! He looks like a pretty tough man!

b_pretender@yahoo.com

I’m looking to car pool with somebody to jiminy. I’ll handle all the details of renting, etc. We just share costs. Unless you already have a car then i’ll pay gas or something.

Ray Alba

Wow – Chris U = great result without crashing! That boy has skillz and will probably be a 2 by the end of the year if he keeps that up. Gui ruled yesterdays PP race going with a group like 3 laps into the race. I got so close to bridging but, couldn’t close those last 20 feet or so – Damn Fiordifrutta guy couldn’t come around me after I towed his ass like 1 mile. After tried making a few team attempts with WSU to bring it back. By then though it was to late. Good training – pissed I missed the break. Wish I were out of town but, family calls and gotta stay local.

Congrats to bik K for his win Saturday, and great job Zoltan for 3rd in the p/1/2 Sunday.

The bike filmfestival starts 5/10 – 514. For cycling sake support it, it is going to 5 major cities around the country possibly the world. Some films making it to the Sundance film festival. They are doing a film on Kissena by a young up and coming film maker. It is a good thing for all of us, it put us into another relm of perception outside spitting and scratching your crotch to boxing on wheels.
There is a great film with hey day greats Peter Post and Patrick Sercu. Check it out – http://WWW.bicyclefilmfestival.com
I’m sure Andy will give you a head up before hand.

When a guy is looking for a little Keirin action in a sprint, he should get some full fingered gloves.

LaCorte

Isn’t that Pablo Ravazzani behind me? That is a mistake. Pabalo did not beat me in the Kierin. But you know what, you can have it if it makes you feel better. Official knows the deal. And Promotor wants to be an official too!

Puny O'Malley

Chris — You were robbed indeed, great job, and Ben, great write up. I’m taking myself off the "dark horse" list!!

Enthusiastic NYVC Girl

NYVC also had a strong showing in the CAT 4/5 field with Chris Price placing 4th at Sturbridge and 7th at Palmer.

Anonymous

3/4 race in sturbridge only 3 of the city boys placed in the top 15. Palmer only 2 in the top 30!!!

mikem

damn chris, i can’t believe you stayed up–that looks like a shoulder check in a hockey game… anyway, nice races

TS

I ended up 4th on gc, not 2nd. Started the last stage in 2nd but missed the key move and outsprinted in the end by another gc guy. Beautiful racing down there. Very hard TT that I had to do on a borrowed bike because mine wouldn’t work without a shift cable. Love that internal cable routing.

Ugly

Thanks guys! It was good fun and the guy turned out to be a real gentleman.

Big props to my fellow JA’s and Ben’s ML crew who tried to make this traditionally ho-hum sprinter’s race (according to race reports of years past) into a real battle.

Team Switch

When did Mike Margarite join Sakonet ? Smart move, great rider – be interesting to see how he progresses

LaCorte Always complaining you fat cup cake eating chubby meat ball. Shut up and eat more cake

kudos to Sakonnet for bringing Margarite back into the CRCA — he’s a great guy and great rider and will doubtlessly light up the Park races.
