The Hangover 4/9/07

Section head text.

Kevin Molloy took the 123 Saturday race at Prospect, while JP Kaminski won the 3/4 race from a two up break.

Sunday I know nothing about as I was doing Easter Bunny duty. I did see a picture of Ken Harris with shoe covers on though. Feel free to fill in the blanks for the rest of the weekend.

Ooof, hard working Schmalz there. Mengoni gets first win of the year Sunday with Amauri Perez. Tadeusz Marszalek wins the 3/4, David Taylor the masters.

Alvaro Arnal wins Sandy Hook, Westwood Velo kicks butt, roller race king Gui Nelessen takes 3rd overall on a fixie. SouthAfrica.net now has two big diesels. I battle the registration table to a tie.

But the real big news: Jason Bremer’s a tri geek?? Come back, Jason!

We made the front page of the New York Times!.

RIGHT ON! 4/14/07 and still no results of 4/8/07!
If AVD posted the results as fast as he takes in the money, the results would be posted the SANE DAY.

Hey, it’s late on 4/13/07, how come AVD has still not posted the results of the 4/8/07 races in Central Park?
Wake Up AVD, or did you retire on all the money you make on the Spring Series?

to mr problem with tubulars

dude, if you were an upstate hardman, you would have two sets of wheels so you can switch out the wheels rather than regluing the tires. This is why you are a NYC Mr Softee.

This message brought to you by Mr Softee Soft Ice Cream, available on a street corner near you.

Maybe I’m an idiot but I don’t see NYVelocity or a name I recognize in the Times article. What’s the connection other than the basic relevance?

the problem with tubulars

is that it takes too long to reglue them. A lot of my cold weather trainiing kit is black and yellow, but my team kit is red and blue, and regluing on diff tires to match the clothes was getting old.

Looking forward to BR?

Sorta. Looking forward to getting dropped. Gotta get teh first crappy race performance out of my system.

now you're cooking!

I’d go with grapeseed oil for sure…light consistency, high flash point, no smoke even at high cadences…er…temperatures. And very little residual taste.

I've got a 10-speed cassette

With all 11 cogs. It’s an 11-11-11-11-11-11-11-11-11-11.

But for Battenkill I’m thinking of putting a 12 on the last spot. Is that a good idea?

Cobblemeister

Does anyone have a pave helmet I can borrow for BR? A bad helmet choice at Battenkill can cost you the race.

I put peanut butter on my tires before the climb for more traction. What is the best tire to not clash too badly with a creamy all natural style peanut butter?

Also would you consider canola oil an appropriate chain lube, or is extra virgin olive oil better?

Battenkill hardman

I’m going to run a 9-28 – I heard that’s what Boonen ran at the Ronde this year. I’m also going to put on a chain guard so I don’t get a lion of Flanders flag stuck in my drivetrain as I go through the throngs of fans.

Butters...which is better?

Peanut butter is OK and might get you through the race, but crunchy almond butter works best on the pave.
That’s all I got on that one.

BR Road Conditions

Who ever wrote the last post is a tool. Why dont you just keep your pretty Euro bike (with tubular wheels I am guessing) and Snooty NYC racing ass home and do us all a favor. The upstate NY hardmen wont miss you dangling off the back.

BR Road Conditions – what kind of gloves should I wear? should I go with my dark or yellow Oakley lenses?

BR Road Conditions – Are the big dirt roads earlier in the race or throughout. Looks like a nasty climb at mile 10 that could really split the groups.

Rode BR this weekend

Rode BR this weekend. Dirt roads were in good shape. Had regular 23 Maxxis on front wheel and Vittoria on back wheel. It was no problem.

br tire choice and gearing

br gearing . go with a 12-25 if you dont have an SRAM 11-26 or a custom shimano 11-25. it could be sloppy and the climbs can be steep.
tires, vittoria pave green many have used. also conti sells a 7×25 competition popular at PRoubaix. vittoria also makes a clincher 7×24 csc clincher. a bad tire will cost you the race.

Battenkill – I was interested in the 3s, 4s and Pro 1-2.

Any recommendations for the dirt road passes and choice of gear? Vitoria Paves seem to be the tire of choice…

Maybe the winner of the 3/4 and leader of the 3/4 who is a DC racer? Or maybe just one of the millions of DC fans out there?

Eugene

To set the record straight, Bremer is still one of us– he hasn’t gone to the other side. He did the bike leg of a triathon relay team.

Would it threaten our manhood if he crossed over?
