The Hangover 10/16/06

Section head text.

We’re awaiting results from Westwood cross. So if you have any info… All we know is that Evil let us down, Aspholm was off the front with Frattini.

Interesting gossip. If certain IMs were to ever be made public, we would be sooo sued.

Valverde wins the Pro Tour competition – and no one cares. But on the bright side, the grand prize is an open mouthed kiss from Pat McQuaid!

In honor of the Cricket, we will bestow insect nicknames to local riders. Schmalz is the cockroach, of course (he’ll call me the ladybug). Can I be a silverfish instead? The Lion of Woodbury is now the Earwig of Woodbury.

Too many candidates for stick insect…

Cecelia Pleva showed up for the cx clinic on Saturday, took 3rd on Sunday.

Axis was out in force with Molloy, Loehner and Rahn in the A race.

Thanks to Matt Howard for putting on the cyclocross clinic Saturday Morning. I had a blast, despite getting chased by the Parks Dept and bruising my knee so badly I was unable to ride the rest of the weekend.

Main lessons learned:

1. Matt Howard is graceful and coordinated.

2. I am not.

3. Cyclocross is not easy.

4. Cyclocross is fun anyway.

Rahn had a spectacular "wide world of sports agony of defeat" crash

Loehner is finding his cross legs on the twisties

I was mainly trying not to rebreak my collar bone, but ended up in group of 3 going for 4th when I flatted with 1.5 laps to go. I finished 8th and spent the $20 on beer and burritos.

Some italian dude passed me at ludicrous speed, then another (frattini) at mach 2.9. Aspholm was the only local guy within 1/2 a lap of those two, literally.

My crash was the opposite of Karl’s: I was passing a lapped rider, he took the good line, and I stupidly barreled over a patch of loose gravel. So much for graceful and coordinated. But I blame Andy, who caused the crash by putting my picture up on the Hopeful Friday page. That’s like our own version of the Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

We’re eagerly awaiting Ric Stagg’s blog entry on the CX race, especially to hear if it were he or Kansas Waugh who took 6th. They should race ’80’s vintage Trans Ams down Queens Blvd. if they can’t come to an agreement. Or joust…

The Ric

I want to know where this guy Kansas Waugh lives, cause there ain’t room for two in 6th. I won that crap fair and square.

Oh, and hey Crumbley! Your neice asked ME to wet the dipstick.

Patience, Grasshoppa

We already had a guy in town called Spider, though I don’t think he raced this year. Maybe these tandem guys are like some social insect, like ants.

Matt’s cx clinic really turns a profit! Now if I start seeing his "get rich quick" infomercials at 3 am… Thanks MH!

Wow! That’s F’kd up! Hope its not true….

I’m so numb of disappointment from this administration. Wouldnt be shocked if this theory checked out.

I always try to have some hope. Even for the stooges I didnt vote for. Now things are so F’d up, hope has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana.

Thinking about trying cross country skiing this off season. The equipment isnt as expensive as I thought and the Palisades has a crap load of XC nordic trails. I got hooked watching the winter Olympics and couldnt wait to check it out + bikereg has a site called Ski-reg with races in ME

check it out.

I just saw the November issue of Details, and Lance Armstrong is on the cover, and the headline is "America’s New Playboy."

Ugly

He diced my friend’s x-girlfriend at his house in Austin, while Matthew Mc. had twin sisters in the next room. This was on Father’s Day and the nanny eventually had to kick the ladies out.

We’re pretty disgusted with her, but she’s actually proud.

JFT, Thanks for the heads up. ÃŒ dont know anyone that’s skied those trails. I’ve only seen the pics on the palisades web site showing trail signage of multiple trails.
