New Jersey Time Trial Series Event # 1-Sandy Hook

Thanks and congratulations

On behalf of the NJBA, the NJBA Time Trial Cup Committee, and the Sandy Hook team of promoters, let me offer a huge congratulations to everyone who participated in this past weekends’ Sandy Hook Time Trial! It was an incredible day of racing for all involved. Attendance was up significantly from last season’s race with deep fields in all the categories. The registration and scoring were done in a near perfect, accurate and timely manner, The marshals and volunteers did a tremendous job supporting the promoters providing a safe course on which to race. The wind and other weather kept everyone on their toes, making this one of the hardest events in many years. Thank you again to all the promoters, marshals, local police and others who gave our cyclists a terrific day of racing.

Congratulations to Steve Goldman of Westwood Velo/Trade Management who had the fastest overall time of 15:28 averaging 27.155 mph in some horrendous windy conditions!  The top 5 was rounded out by the following:

Dave Freifelder, Westwood Velo/Trade Manage – 15:49, 26.554 mph

Will O’Donnell, Westwood Velo/Trade Manage – 15:51, 26.498 mph

Tim Orr, Rocket Racing/YSG – 16:00, 26.250 mph

Chris Fritz, Guardian Coaching/Brielle Cyclery – 16:02, 26.195 mph

New for 2009, the NJBA TT Cup Series includes a Cup Category for the Cat4/5 group. This yielded some incredible action with tight times and hard riding. The Cat4/5 Cup looks to be a hotly contested 2009 Series. In that field, David Carr edged out Remus Tomici, with the top 6 riders all within 30 seconds of one another. While many of the fields had great results and exciting finishes, I believe the Cat4/5 Cup will be a chase worth watching all season long.

Please note that the next event on the Cup Calendar is the Readington Time Trial, which is this Saturday April 11th. Further, help us spread the word that Juniors Race for Free in all of the upcoming NJBA TT Cup Events! Due to the support of several individuals and our generous promoters, we have secured free entry fees for all Juniors who would like to race any of the remaining Cup events. If you want to help support this great discipline and further the sport of cycling, please tell a friend, or family member who may have an interested junior who would like to attend one of our great races!! These youthful riders, talented and strong, are the future of this great sport! Do what you can to get a junior, as well as any other person, to come join us!
