I am still trying to dislodge the sinus-clogging illness-paste that was injected into my head during my seven hour wetting down at the NYGF, so I am touch and go for participating in the Dave Jordan Race on Saturday morning. If you see me, for God’s sake, don’t touch me! But enough about me, let’s explore what the weekend presents in the form of athletic events for the propping up of egos and inflating self-worth.
Saturday morning is the Dave Jordan Central Park Classic in Central Park.
Over the course of the weekend is the Grand Fondo Caskills with Floyd Landis.
Also, spanning the weekend is the Lime Rock Cycling Grand Prix in Lakeville, CT.
On Saturday, there’s also the Watermelon Crit in Piscataway, NJ,
Finally, on Sunday there’s the CRCA FBF Classic at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, which is part of an omnium with the Dave Jordan Central Park Classic.
Spring series and L&C has been pretty safe even with big fields this year.
The only L&C race I was in this year was crashy and I thought I saw cartwheeling pics from others.
no crashes that i know of in all 3 tues this year. damn, i just finxed it.
People are fit, the field is too big, and the race too short
rider clinics, yes. if everyone in the city could ride a figure 8 at .2 mph, there would be no more crashes.
a parlor trick. better to do some simulated bumping
as long as I’m not alone
Wiggo to Mengoni.
The “knee problem” excuse is a little vague.
i don’t remember any crashes in the 1/2/3s. can’t comment on the 4s. also i don’t think there has been a single crash in any masters park race this year.
We need more selective courses in NYC to split the fields up. Can we build a 2 mile climb in one of the parks. Otherwise, 40+ riders jockeying for position for a field sprint is always going to be an ongoing problem. Option 2 is a 25 rider field limit.
not sure why they put cones on the left side after the transverse but i think that contributed to crashes in that spot, it forced everyone to the right in a pretty awkward way. maybe they were trying to prevent everyone from going wide and then bottlenecking at the finish but it didn’t work.
you can do a search on twitter for “base camp international” . Someone tweeted a photo of the results.
anyone else find his decision to not do tour suspicious?
Suspicious. And lame.
1st!
any results for yesterday’s Base Camp P-1 Race??????
United Healthcare on the the podium for spots 1 & 3. Predator 2
Several Sky riders having knee problems this season (Joe Dombrowski, Ian Boswell, and now Wiggo)…Does the UK not have any good physical therapists/sports physiologists? Or is someone running around going all Tonya Harding on peoples’ kneecaps?
Their physical therapists are second only to their dentists
then I took an arrow to the knee.
brutal 32 mph + multi-person wipe out approx. 1 mile from the finish during the CP Dave Jordan race today. It was dead smack in the field. Multiple racers went down hard & fast.
Fassst Avg Speed of race: 27.6 mph
Team Somerville takes 1st pl and 3rd pl
same thing happened in the cat 4 on the flats beside the pond. it was ugly.
Avg speed 25.5 mph
Perhaps smaller field limits, like 80, would be a good idea. That was what happened at Mengoni for a few years after there were crashes every year for a while. It was a lot safer with 80 starters than 100.
The pattern is that these were races in the NYC area. Can anyone name a race without a crash this year?
it’s fast bike racing with lots of NYC egos. i don’t see a way around it, honestly. maybe the crca rider clinics will help weed out the sketch.
crashing sucks
Crash in the 3s near the finish with 2 to go. 26.5 avg. See a pattern?
had to provide a lane for recreational riders.
