Blah type blah
There’s not a lot going on in the world of bike racing locally this weekend, but I am compelled to type about it anyway because of irrational compulsion.
Saturday there’s a CRCA club race in Central Park.
Sunday there’s the Kissena Women’s and Junior’s Track Clinic.
Saturday there’s the Watermelon Crit in Piscataway, NJ.
And Sunday there’s the New Jersey State Road Championships in Elwood, NJ.
Not sure if schooled is the best description here. They took the top spots, but they didn’t ride away from the field of a bunch of local races ranging from 20ish to 50ish. Granted, it was certainly harder than normal NJ Thursday night racing but I would have expected more.
Ummm, yeah they did ride away from the field, well at least the one who won did. And then his 3 teammates 1-2-3 in the field sprint. I believe there were enough good local riders in that field, they should have done better.
Adirondack races too

Dan how come you never mention Rockleigh race.
Yesterday the Venezuelan team schooled the 1/2/3 field and took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places. Not sure if anyone can remember a single team taking the top 4 places in a race. Local boys got humbled, Everhard Paredes be proud!
I don’t mention Rockleigh because I have no idea what happened.
I’m sure Chung was doping
No B field races don’t count so sorry assfault green
Rockleigh = best local racing series in the NYC area. Positive vibe, great course, great racing, inexpensive, what more can you ask for?
“Not sure if anyone can remember a single team taking the top 4 places in a race.’
CRCA, Aug 9, 1998… B Field, 5 laps
1. John McGovern, CRCA/Asphalt Green
2. Chung Chiang, CRCA/Asphalt Green
3. Louis DeBattista, CRCA/Asphalt Green
4. Stephen Chang, CRCA/Asphalt Green
“Not sure if anyone can remember a single team taking the top 4 places in a race.’ Mengoni did that in the first Lucarelli & Castaldi race this year.
Lupus to Venezuela?
i was there, the south american kids did a good job, although ultra negative and frustrating to see in a less than local race.
tactics were simple they wanted a solo rider off the front, and a field sprint. many combines went up the road. unless it was a solo rider from the opec nation of latin america they brought it back. even if they had 2 guys in a 4 guy move they stopped pulling and brought it back.
funny thing was a few less than savvy racers brought moves back for them. kinda like when a team helps foundation out in the park.
Grandma should consider spending more time Organizing his Gran Fondo.
Jersey Pride, don’t hate on those who did what you pondered had not been done before. Rockleigh, Lucarelli & Castaldi, CRCA B race all were examples of a simple goal, namely beat everyone who shows up. respect is deserving of each. otherwise let’s hope nobody from the Mapei team that swept the 1996 podium at Paris-Roubaix is checking out this feed cause they’ll be laughing at all of these chest-thumping posts.
These days I’m laughing at those from Mapei who won races doped to the gills. Tafi, Musseuw, Nardello, etc
of course we’ve never had any local dopers, correct?
That would be FBF.
in my opinion.
If by ride away from the field you mean a gap yes, but again it is not like he lapped the field. He was in sight the whole time…ok, on the longer straights. Schooled would be like on Monday Mike N rolling off the front in lap 3 and staying away, being off the front the previous race after winning in the way the day before. That is schooled.
I think you’re reading the race wrong. They were in nearly every move and often other teams were responsible for wreeling it in. Yes, toward the end maybe they wanted to practice their leadout.
What’s funny is I think there’s more foreign riders racing Rockliegh than domestic riders. For New Jersey riders it’s actually a really good chance to race against an international field in a training race setting, keeps you on your toes.
