Kevin’s finish video up

CRCA finish video thanks to Kevin Scott:

With this weekend’s Connecticut Stage Race cancelled, there’s fewer opportunities for athletic ego-propping, but there are options. You could even, you know, take a weekend off—just putting it out there…

Saturday is the CRCA FBF time trial at FBF. Also on Saturday is the Watermelon Criterium in Piscatatway, NJ.

Sunday there’s a CRCA Club Race. And that’s about it. Brevity—it’s cool.

There was a big pile up at the 4/5 race last night. Probably one of the worst I have seen…some dozen riders were involved…wheels flying, people tumbling, frames cracking…I hope those who were carried away made it home ok and smooth recovery to all

Aaron Neck

I think more people cared about usacycling points, than having fun and racing what seemed like a good course

meh

Does anyone know WTF caused that massive Rockleigh crash, anyway? Trashed bikes, riders not getting up, multiple ambulances on scene… not good at all. Heal up fast, guys.

Jarne Torque

rode a smart race. Who cares what caused it? Let’s just hope all riders are okay. What, you wanna sue somebody or just complain?

Thomas Compliant

I was shut out of Rockleigh last night (showed up too late for day-of reg) and ended up marshalling while my teammates raced. Talked to an official who told me there were 10-15 riders for whom this was their first race ever. From my marshal-point things looked way sketchier than normal. From what I understand, the crash happened when one rider swerved into another causing a massive chain reaction – don’t know any more details than that though.

The 4/5 Crash occured at the final stretch 50 yrds before the start/finish right before 1 lap to go.
There are some rough pavement in the middle there and looks like rider(s) may have gotten stuck in one of the cracks.
There may have been some sketchy moves elsewhere, but I don’t think that was the cause of this pile up.

During the 123 race, one of the female pro-rider could have gone down at the same spot. Thankfully, it was mid race and the pack was moving a lot slower.

How to avoid it?
Patch up the cracks? change the finish so people won’t be coming through that section aggressively?
Or racers can try to avoid those part…but in the middle of adrenalin rush it only takes one guys wheel to get caught.

Of course I’m riding my rear disc and front 1080, who knows when they’ll have another TT at FBF…

FBF TT, sponsored by Bad Idea Jeans

Andy Shen

FBF TT’s been done before, most people run a disk no problem. The TTT’s a first, though.

Antonin Topcap

i remember the old roubaix section at rockleigh. as bad as it was, never saw a wreck in that spot. it was a great spot to jump as the pack stretched out by necessity.

Razzante Rivnut

rockleigh crash was caused by 2 jordan riders who were chatting to each other way in prospect park. they locked bars and went down causing a pile up. it

Clueless

What does that mean? Is that mean the club pays for full/some expenses?
Is it possible that ONLY one of the riders is an actual CRCA member?

CRCA CRC Donovan, Kathryn USA
CRCA CRC Chilcott, Kate NZL
CRCA CRC Lowe, Courteney NZL
CRCA CRC Patton, Gray USA
CRCA CRC Quiroga, Maria USA
CRCA CRC Robertson, Lauren USA

I think there are other club members racing that event. Are they getting the same support and fanfare as those NON-CRCA ringers for the weekend? Is that where our dues are being spent?

Or am I clueless?

Or..

women’s racing is one of the most under represented in CRCA and in NYC generally; so great to see CRCA pulling together a composite team that can rub shoulders with the best and help promote women’s racing.

Clueless

So you are saying that CRCA women racers are not good enough? How does sending non-members promote our club? As a fellow member, if CRCA racers were to get dropped, I would have much preferred to see real club member represent our colors.

Martin Kevlar

Fabienne Gerard is racing with the Pure Energy composite team tomorrow. Good Luck, Fabienne!

Simon Wave Ring

The sprint was “too easy” the Cat 4 NY Velocity team so they decided to cause the crash and see if they could still win after hitting the deck.

Leo Cable

obviously it wasn’t “too easy’ for you otherwise you would have won… like most of the comments on this site, you’re caught up with other peoples agenda instead of worrying about your own. Get a life! and stop living vicariously through better cyclists than yourself.

West 85th Scratch Race Sunday

You know its June when your races start at 5:45 in the morning….The sprinters will be back in play *for a MET finish*.

wha?

Kylian Ferrule

Conn Stage race reduces fields and increases payout but is forced to close. Watermelon shortens the course, keeps fields open, charges $30 bucks a race and pays out in food product, but keeps the race open.

I realise a stage race is a very different thing than a circuit race, but how do we feel about compromising a race instead of closing it altogether.

This isn’t a shot at the promoters of either race, just a question.

CRCA

Apologies – last minute change during the week that did not corrected in all placed on the website. Numbers RIGHT.

New England Racer

Promoter’s negligence sent racers to the hospital last year with various broken bones by not having any marshals or warning on a wet metal bridge. Lack of participants was a direct reflection of that. I agree it is a shame though as the format and courses were fantastic. Also, people do not like non-USCF races except if Mike Norton runs them.

Louis Rear Entry

Here is an update for you idiots on foundation. If a rider flats he must chase back on. there are no free laps in central park

and if you want to get a workout in do not field sprint or influence the outcome of the race.

and if you sprint and win like a dude did today expect to be DQ ed and or suspended

Mael Seattube

Shame to hear it. It would be a waste of an illegal advance on the wrong side of the horse divot.

Kyllian Rubber Hood

so frickin basic: you flat in crca and want to get back in the next lap, stay neutral off the back for the remainder of the race. you guys have been doing this long enough to know better.

Vespaciano Seattube

Haven’t seen Paulie for awhile? Well, this morning was an extra special treat – he shows up with an old number from somewhere “98” – not even sure if its a CRCA number and tries to talk his way into the B race with Alex. Alex tries to get rid of him by telling him that he’s got an A – Race number. No worries, Paulie tells him that’s fine, he’ll start with the A race and drop back to the Bs if the pace is too fast. Fast forward – Paulie races the Bs, gets into his usual argument and then is dropped. The end.

Jonas Ziptie

…is crash-causer who has been around for years and at this point should know better but he’s too stupid too.

sven nys

yeah, what the f- does 20 years have to do with anything aside from being proof that he’s hopeless. exhibit b: inson.

OMG

Paulie has been racing long enough to know the rules. Gavin has won enough races at the upper categories to know the rules.

They are both cheaters as far as I am concerned. Disgrace to their teams(wait, is Paulie still on a team?) and to the club. They both deserve suspension.

Razzante Bartape

“Rider 86 is DQ’d for riding in the incorrect field (USAC rule 1Q12). As this is not a first offence, the Board will consider what additional actions will be taken at it next Board meeting.”

I wish that reality would always fit so neatly into place.

Loic Axle

BTW,you guys gotta keep your eyes open in Parkslope! Ive seen cops giving tickets to cyclist for running red lights on 5th ave and 12th street!!
