Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

Kevin Scott made more videos. CRCA club race finish:

Interviews about the race and the upcoming women’s clinic (Brian Borgia of Rapha won the A race):

There is a veritable downpour’s worth of racing activity planned for this weekend. (I’m unduly affected by weather when it comes to describing bikes—there’s an ozone warning for my ride to the ATM up the street).

Saturday’s there is a CRCA Club Race in a points race format. There’s also the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup Race in Prospect Park on Saturday.

Sunday has two big races, first there’s the Housatonic Hills Road Race, and then in the afternoon, there’s the big one, the Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic presented by Rockstar Games.

Because the format blows. Sorry guys, I know you want to make it ‘hip’ but sprinting every lap is not fun. Hello mayhem..!

Francesco Butt

Not sure why Euseless thinks this is spectator friendly. It seems more complicated for a spectator to understand. I doubt I could keep up with who’s ahead in points, and would be surprised if the announcer can. There’s a reason track racing is not popular.

Logan Threadlock

spectators don’t give a rip who wins, let alone the format. they just like to see high speed action and wrecks. also, no need for name calling

Jordan Lube

Why reinvent the wheel? The race was fine, bike racing in general is just not that cool to non-competitors. How fun is it to watch Indy 500?

Franco Lube

i didn’t bother signing up this year, thought it was a weird format. cool end up being really cool though, or a real disaster. Eustace wrote that he thinks it be faster and therefore safer, but i’m not buying that. I didn’t think it was broken, why fix it?

Julien Grips

Bike Handling skills were questionable for some of the guys in the field for the last 2-3 years and desperation sometimes takes over.

Mael Limit Screw

a couple years ago a pro crashed literally as he was sprinting for 1st place. did a superman across the line, in front of bahati. that means even the pros are excitable!

Lucas Lorica

you act like we aren’t familiar with the incident. i think everyone knows what happened play by play

sven nys

um, i somehow doubt that an extra jumbotron was passed over in exchange for a drug test that might bust one of the euro ringer trackies

Today’s Pro 1-2-3 race @ Prospect Park went down kind of like this. A breakaway formed approximately 2 laps into the race. Representation in the breakaway was 100% complete with the exception of United and Foundation. The breakaway consisted of the following: Augusto Sanchez, MEngoni, Stephan Dioslaki, Metra/Cycles 54 John Durso Colavita, Rafael Urzadowski Northeast, Ricky Gargulio Colavita, Brian Breach Mengoni, ?? JV Guy, and Michael Perlberg. Amazingly, all of the leaders’ jerseys (Sprinter’s KOM and overall leader) were represented in this group. A huge gap quickly opened up and United & Foundation were unable to close it down. Dioslaki took the 2 sprinter’s jersey laps for the day. Sanchez (already the KOM leader) took the 2nd KOM lap and it was at that point that things got mixed up a bit in the breakaway. Three guys fell out. Breach, JV guy and Perlberg were unable to hold on after the climb. Sanchez also fell off but after making a big effort, was able to tag back on to the leaders group. So it became 5 guys in the lead with Breach, JV and Perlberg in the “chase group” and the field well behind them. Things stayed that way for the duration of the race. In the end, Gargulio made a huge attempt approx ½ mile out with Durso (GC leader) hot on his tail. Sanchez jumped aboard and passed Durso and then it was Dioslaki. In the finishing sprint, Dioslaki passed Durso and barely missed overtaking Sanchez who ended up winning the race. Results were as follows:

1. Augusto Sanchez Mengoni
2. Stephan Dioslaki Metra/Cycles 54
3. John Durso Colavita
4. Rafael Urzadowski Northeast
5. Ricky Gargulio Colavita
6. Brian Breach Mengoni
7. JV Guy
8. Michael Perlberg

27.4 mph avg speed
45 miles total length

Great race report. Very helpful for all that were not there (and for many people that were)! Keep them coming?
Similar report for CRC ehh?

thanks for the compliments….the level of detail came as a result of being in the breakaway, watching it unfold. Will try to keep posting anytime I’m able. You can narrow down who this might be by the command of the English language with respect to the guys who were in the break

hater69

having a few guys sitting behind the chase is not disruptive. having guys pull through and drop 15 guys back instead of slotting in behind their teammates in the rotation is a pathetic chase effort.

Jordan Lube

It’s even more lame that you don’t understand that this is a team sport and the object is for your team to win. Chase efforts but breaks in jeopardy, breaks put sprinters chances in jeopardy. How fuckin’ stupid are you?!

Gabriel Stiff

it’s called negative racing and it’s poo poo. you don’t need to block, just don’t help chasing.

Jordan Lube

Lame ass excitable Cat 4. You’re not allowed to comment on technical issues until you have accrued at least 10 upgrade points.

Jordan Lube

is not blocking. Negative racing is what dominates your wack ass Cat 4 fields. Remember, no comments until you have accrued at least 10 upgrade points because you don’t know shit!

Lucas Brakepad

Augusto WIN THE CAT 123 ONLY TO GET PAID $45.
$35 TO RACE
$80 TO WIN…AFTER YOU MR Issendorf MAKES A FEW THOUSAND…
SHAME SHAME SHAME ….

Hey Lucas, please respect your promoters. Putting on a race takes lots of time and money. The promoter has to pay for the insurance @ $3 per rider, officials, park rental, marshals, numbers, pins, all the things at the race like the cones and loudspeaker, not to mention all the prize money and all the series things like leaders jerseys. That adds up to more than you realize. Also remember that the promoter takes a risk that people will show up. If there is a light turn out, it’s very easy to loose money for you efforts.
The prize list was posted ahead of time right on the bikereg page: http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=12465 Therefore, everyone should know what they could potentially win and decide to race or not. I was at that race today, and had a great experience. I look at my entry as a payment to Charlie I to set up that experience. Everything was run well. I don’t care if Charlie makes some money. He put in the work to provide all of us an opportunity to have fun today.

Kyllian Locknut

“entry as a payment to Charlie I to set up that experience” seriously??? go do triathlons!! Real racers suffer for the goal of a payout. Prize lists used to be substantial, but pathetic prize lists and continued support of money hungry promoters has and will continue to have a detrimental effect on racing.
And sponsors are sponsors because they provide money that helps offset race costs, so no, not all costs are fronted by the promoter.

Froyd Yarndis

Lucas, you make it sound like the thrill of watching spandexed guys going around in circles at 6am should be reward enough for a promoter putting on a race. Promoters deserve to make money. It’s a metric shit-ton of work to put on a good race. if you’re bitching about the prize money of a PP race, then you’re racing for the wrong reasons.

Locknut Supple

did anyone notice that the NYC Ironman has a $895 entry fee that sold out in 11 minutes? As cyclists we should be glad that the cycling promoters that are left aren’t abandoning the sport in favor of triathlons given there is clearly more money to be made in triathlons (or running for that matter). as bear and conneticut stage race show being a cycling promoter is far from easy….

Galleazzo Swage

to Kyllian Locknut
Any real racers racing for the soul purpose of payout are called pro’s. As far as I can tell, any racing yesterday were amatures. Don’t be a fool. You should be happy that you can go to a race in a controlled setting for only $36. No one is getting rich from thi, and the promoter has a lot more at risk, and had more effort invested in any race.

Eddie

is like paying to play paintball upstate. yes, you require skills and you can work, sometimes with great dedication, at getting better at it. yes, you may invest in equipment (e.g., fancy red mouthguards included, zipp wheels, the latest cervelo frame, custom-made shoes, etc.), and form teams. but in essence, unless you get good enough not to get your ass severely kicked everytime you show up in the farm league of U.S. criteriums, it is a costly little privilege, not an entitlement. like playing ‘doctor’ as a child, you are not one, ever, unless it becomes your job. so, mr. locknut: shut up, pay up, and play while you can.

Piero Flange

bike racing is a fairly expensive hobby. paying race entry fees is part of that. just like your bike/kit/tires/nutrition etc., costs money, it also costs money to put on a race. if you’re good enough to get on an amateur team which buys you a bike and pays those fees, great…if not, be glad your hobby isn’t sailing, or racing cars, or flying airplanes. winning money in an amateur bike race is just a token, a “throphy” of sorts….it’s not intended to feed anyone’s family.

Kylian Ferrule

Did Eddie just compare cycling to paintball? Those wanna be NRA goons wouldn’t know a real sport if it shot them in the face with an air gun.

Anyone off work tomorrow want to do a Bear mountain/Nyack ride tomorrow or alpine hill repeats? round 10:30 or 11. Gotta get my derailler hanger fixed.

Best weather in 5-6 years. can’t say the competition was the same/good. just saying. don’t get angry because i remember US Champs (ala Freddie Rodriguez) riding for Mike Ball’s Rock Racing (yes, TH was there too). this year was . . . . different . . . .

Saw Andy with “lens in hand” — where’s the pics Andy? PS, Schmalz – “nice” — gotta say, didn’t see you grabbing them/there points! bravo bro-therr . . . .
