Hot park action
It will be a warm, moist weekend of racing in the dog’s mouth that is New York City. There are a few options for the city bound, let’s review then, shall we?
On Saturday morning, there’s the filthiest of race formats in Central Park with the CRCA Club Race Power Points Race.
Not to be outdone, there’s a race in Prospect Park on Saturday also with an R&A Cycles New York Cycling Series Race.
Finally on Sunday, racing returns back to Central Park with the CRCA Lou Maltese Memorial Race.
Dan, you forgot a one:

Long shot, but my white Cannondale CAAD10 was just stolen on the UWS. Dura Ace. Ksyrium SLRs. 74th and Amsterdam. Reward for return. thanks

I hope you catch the troll. Is there a way of posting pics on the NYVC thread?
Sucks, but I still don’t understand why anyone would lock up a nice race bike outside in this city. It’s like leaving a steak in front of a drooling dog.

umm… don’t agree with this. Sorry.

But, I do hope he gets to go race around the globe and not have to pay for his own Cyclocross season like the rest of the talented world. It sounds like he had a tough work day before one of his big races, bummer. If he was just trying to do the RHC in Spain for a weekend I could maybe support this, but he’s trying to raise $10,000. If “Cooper Lee Ray has earned every inch of the opportunity that lies before him” he shouldn’t be asking everyone to pay for his full season or anything else. He is lucky enough, unlike many to have a good head on his shoulders and a fully functioning body capable of working a different job if it is not able to support his race ambitions. I know many that sacrifice a lot to race and work hard every day to do it. Maybe he needs to evaluate his focus before asking for $10,000.
I need new race equipment more than most. I don’t earn much. But the last thing I’m going to do is ask people to buy my new race wheels when I’m capable of working a second winter job to buy them myself. Many talented people don’t get to go to all the big races because that’s life.
If this guys is truly boy wonder why hasn’t any sponsor picked him up? Maybe it’s because attitude is as important as results.
There was a surprise visit this morning from USADA and doping control at Central Park’s Lou Maltese, Team invitational. Top 3 finishers were: German Team Dude who soloed in for 1st place (hmmmm ???). Cesar Marta – Mengoni in 2nd Place and Tommy Barnette – Team Metra in 3rd place. Interestingly, Marta tried to slip out and then claimed “I no understandâ€. And then finally claimed he was unable to pee. Same story for the German dude, who by the way was there with his team (I guess they were in the area) and rode like an animal. All top 3 and a random 4th guy who was in the top ten (not sure who) were taken away to a hotel room immediately following the podium. Very curious to see the wee wee results in two weeks. I for one didn’t qualify as I was one of the unfortunate ones who crashed out in 1 of 4 of four crashes that took place in the final one mile of this race. Incredibly, there were 4 crashes in the last 1 mile. Crazy shit. Required ambulances, stretchers immobilizers – – – the whole nine.
No peeing is needed to dope test the top finishers in the Cat 4 field, since being in that “select” group meant you sprinted through an accident scene – all dopes, let alone the AG racer who attacked when the field was neutralized to get a breakaway, also a dope.
Graf is Austrian; Marta is spelled Marte and he did not try to slip away; and only the podium got tested. The racers were all cooperative if their bladders were less so.
Rayan Grips– whoever you are– you’re a dick.
4 crashes in the last mile? Was that in the Cat 4 race? Or, contrary to the hate on this site, do others crash too?
Hope they’re all OK.
Thank you crca
The crash at the bottom of harlem hill was a 4 but all the crashes in the final mile were from the 1/2 invitational field. The final crash was just before the finish for the 4s. Riders flew right past a guy laying on the ground bleeding with medics around him, marshals screaming and waving to slow down. I can believe they counted the finish for the 4s. Half the field almost come to a complete stop by the accident. All counting the results does is reinforces outta control racing
jkahsdfljkha – whoever u are, you’re probably the 4th guy they picked to get tested
Is Cesar Marte the same person that won Fort Lee last year?
It was Augusto Sanchez last year.
Keep that test rolling. I will pay extra for entry to future P,1/2 for tests. Thanks CRCA and whoever else is involved with the shake down.
if the moto doesn’t neutralize the race, do you really expect riders who are concentrating on which wheel to follow in a mass sprint, to neutralize themselves in the last half mile of a race?
Don’t blame the riders. If you were first thru, you would have sprinted too.
I was in the first group and I self-neutralized because I am not a total idiot.
Cesar marte is the same guy that won the green jersey sprint competition last year at the luccerreli castaldi series.
yeah, he is an up and coming star. it’s in the pedigree. I hope he is clean.
NYSBRA and USADA. CRCA, and other NYS clubs contributed to the testing fund. Read about it here, http://www.nysbra.com/about/anti-doping/.
It sucks that the cat 4 race went through the scene of an accident. Had they not done an extra lap they would have avoided the whole mess.
I was in the 3 race and we were finishing our cool-down mini-lap just as the Rapha train went down. I went over just to see if anyone needed anything and tried helping the marshals direct traffic around the crash.
REGARDLESS, there were a few riders in the 4 field who attacked BETWEEN Olsen and I and basically made a beeline for the downed riders (Willie was down there too, so that was 3, iirc). Really sketchy stuff.
Eli?
Yes?
I raced the threes. It was good time.
Gotta say it is funny how people will fight for wheels to move through the middle of a huge pack that is not chasing the break…
@Anonymous
Why wasn’t the pack chasing the break?
I think maybe you are envious of someone who has the guts to post something and ask for help. No man is an island and everyone successful received tons of help along the way.
Not only are you too weak to fight hard for your dream you lack the manhood to post your name while calling someone else out. Take your bullshit logic self-righteousness hater ass elsewhere.
Not Cooper Ray.
plenty of blocking and smothering of any breaks by teammates of those up the road. still, no team who missed the break really took the lead in organizing a chase
Surprised there wasn’t a crash in the 3s with all the blocking going on leading up to the finish.
Many of us in the ‘sprint finish’ in the 4 field slowed down as much as we could. At that point, we are going 30mph and in the drops. If the first wave stops suddenly, then everybody right behind who are not expecting it are going to crash and then you have 20 guys on the ground. So, for me, it was slow down as much as i could to get through safely then drop the hammer.
As for our moto, he was with the AG guy who rode with the other field and got DQd for it. had he not blatantly cheated, we would have had better warning perhaps?
The fact that the 4 field was able to get by the accident without adding to the casualty list is a testament to how the field responded. Im surprised as the front split to get through, some guy in 15th doesnt go for the gap and hit the Rapha guy on the ground.
You guys saw an opportunity and took it
The reason that there wasn’t carnage was because the bulk of the riders understood that it wasn’t safe to sprint through and slowed up in a predictable manner. The “sprinters” took advantage of this good behavior.
And 30 mph? You wish.
30mph on the straight heading south to 72nd st is not fast. You can easily hit that speed riding solo. A pack can easily do 35 there. I’m sure when the p,1,2 guys hit the deck they were well over 35mph.
And to emphasize, the Cat 4 field was dogging it, maybe beginning to touch 30 mph when the mid-road crash came into view and providing lots of time for safely slow down.
love bike racing but hate the crashes. sucks to go down, sucks to dodge downed riders.
You’re all a bunch of hacks with nothing better to bitch about.
Please shut the fuck up unless you were there.
If you were there please shut the fuck up if you were the last 2/3s of the race.
If you were in the first third and didn’t sprint please shut the fuck up with that self-righteous shit.
Everybody please just shut the fuck up if it’s negative!
We just had two consecutive days of local racing and things went pretty well. Focus on the positive and stop being a bitch.
Gilles, why is it that you have this attitude everytime you post. Your opinions are fine, but ease up on the language. lol. relax a bit
So easy to get panties in a bunch. Which further proves my point…
Language? I prefer to say emphatic 🙂

I completely earned everything I have. I ask for help after trying to do something on my own. Cooper Ray asking for $10,000 to pay for his entire CX season is ridiculous. If he’s going to ask for help he should say why he NEEDS help. Saying that he’s a bike messenger and has a photography hobby and therefor can’t afford racing isn’t really grounds for needing $10,000 donated to race. He could try working a different job or a second one in the winter, which is something I do to help offset race costs.
Speaking of earning, Gilles I never cheated and got caught the way you did, if this is who I think it is based on previous posts.
No, I don’t dope.
I just don’t like anonymous shit-talking posts calling someone out by name. Just as weak as writing on a bathroom wall.
It is great to know that you are so honorable but who the fuck are you? There is not much honor is anonymous bitch-assery…
4 crashes by the P/1/2’s yet it’s the Cat 4’s who are dangerous. Maybe if the P/1/2’s wouldn’t risk an emergency room visit for a $500 check, that only one of them was going to get, the 4’s wouldn’t have so many bodies to go around. And if the officials knew how to count laps we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
Gilles,
I don’t need to put my name out there, same as you haven’t. Cooper Ray chose to put his name out there in a pretty arrogant way. If I had the cash I would gladly support his trip to Spain. I can truly understand where he’s coming from with that and I think he’s worked hard for his recent results. But then he goes on to ask for enough money ($10,000) to support an entire CX season. He talks about how he had a bad day at work and still managed to do well in a bike race. He’s also referred to as, “Boy Wonder” or something like that as a junior prodigy. Sorry, not getting my support for that. Spain YES, entire CX season NO.
New rule for next year.
Payout to top 20 must split their payout with the last 20. The finish line is a surprise and you will never know when it is coming. I think this will prevent crashes.
Hiya! I’m a fat mid 30s cat 3 and i won a few races now and then. Please give me 40k so I can quit my job and ride bikes all day.
kthxbye!
not the one calling (by name) people out so my identity is not necessary.
Just because someone has a cup in their hand doesn’t give you a right to judge them, especially anonymously. You won’t reveal yourself because you know you shouldn’t be talking shit. You are afraid because you know you are wrong.
The internets gave a who lot of weak dudes a pair of paper balls. Just remember, they’re just paper…
Pretty sure I get the right to judge a person if he’s asking for $10,000 in donations so they can race amateur cyclocross. Unlike the guy sitting on the side walk holding a cup Cooper is able to do something more to aid his goals. He doesn’t NEED the help, he just wants it. Yes, that is me judging him.
I combined heads with Matthew about what happened in the 3 field. 2 vantage points, in case anyone’s interested:

I liked the way that the racing all around the city returned to the central park. This is one of the @@visit here @@ hopeful Fridays of the year 2013. I hope y6ou all had a warm and moist weekend .
