Hopeful Friday August 3, 2012

happy days…

This weekend, there are many things to be hopeful for. Some of you will be hopeful in your quest to defy gravity upstate while others (those of us with much larger posteriers) will have to settle for some less mountainous local action…

So yes, the Tour of the Catskills (or as i like to refer to it, the Tour of No Thanks) is this weekend. On Sat, there is a race to stay upright in PP with the final race of the Lucarelli & Castaldi series. Sun brings some choices for those with transport. Within riding distance, Mangoseed will be hosting a race at FBF. Down south (609/856 area code, scary) in Marlton, there is the South Jersey Grand Prix. Not far across the river but in a different state, there is a race in the Bob Rodale fitness park just out front of the T-Town velodrome. Info here.

And finally, two funny gifs:

Bad crash in the 1/2/3 field at Prospect today on the downhill with 5 to go. Many ambulances… we were neutralized for 2 laps then they pulled the plug on the race which was the right decision. Obviously there were injuries but hoping none of them are too bad.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for understanding the difficult situations at today’s final event for the Lucarelli and Castaldi Cup.

For EVERY PROSPECT PARK USER’S safety (racers, other riders, runners, walkers and everyone in the park) the USAC Officials had to stop the PRO123 and Category 4 fields due to blocked roadway for servicing injured riders which required numerous ambulances and other emergency service vehicles.

Its a very difficult, dynamic situation that the officials (I’m the results coordinator and don’t make this call) had to handle and for safety & logistical concerns these 2 events were stopped with no points or awards scored for the final in the Cat 4 and PRO123 events.

There was no safe way to comply with USAC and Prospect Parks Department rules to safely conclude the event in the time period allowed.

Results from today’s event for the Category 5 event have been posted on USAC:

We wish those racers that were injured a quick and speedy recovery.

Everyone:
Sorry, but I don’t have any answers for other information regarding today’s event such as entry fees, prize list, etc. My job is to score the riders as they cross the line and calculate the results.

Thanks,

Molestation of goats is wrong and i am deeply offended by the sites constant abuse of goats and now i am shocked to hear local teams have implemented drug tests on goats to seek out the ultimate form of high.

Stop this problem now go to http://www.goatsniffingiswrong.com and yes this goats name is alfred and is a racist !

Prospect park bottom of downhill is plain dangerous. It was a lot safer with no joggers lane, dividers and current traffic patterns. Of course this was when Al Toefield use to run the races in the 80s, when the start and finish was by the Greek shed. Too many yuppies have moved into and spoiled the neighborhood. Prospect park was better for bicycle racing when the area was just an ordinary hood and not yuppie ville.

And in further news, Foundation Team Rider is turking up Central Park on page 4 of the Daily News. A 3 man break got away from the rest of the park riders and the claimed sweet victory at Cats Paw.Good work gents.

The end is near. Thanks alot to every asshole that rides in CP like an asshole. There are many

Andy Shen

If you watch the video they survey 100 riders and 4 went over the limit, with a high of 28. If it was cars then the story would be how safely the drivers are driving in the park.

Miss foul-mouthed Manners

Here’s an idea: the next time you’re trying to rock your PB on some stupid fucking Strava segment in CP and you come to a red lighted crosswalk with pedestrians waiting to cross WHO HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY, slow down or even *gasp* come to a full stop. Or go ahead and be an asshole. Karma’s a bitch.

xmas dipper

the problem is that stopping at red lights is not enough. I follow all the traffic rules in CP (yes might go over 25mph at some moment and will cross a red light if i see no one is around), but pedestrians are angry because we are riding in the bike lane, don’t stop when they jaywalk, “blow” through green lights, etc…

Loggia Butyl

How about the Central Park Conservancy cars, vans and trucks who decide which lights they want to stop at. What happened to vehicles following the traffic lights and basic driving laws? I mean, how am I supposed to get our their way, by going in the designated bikers lane, when there are people running and walking in both the runners lane AND the bikers lane. I love how all of the criticism comes back to cyclists. People who are aren’t remotely athletic or understand sports usually only see one side of the argument!

They could also focus on all the people walking and jogging on the road. Not good enough they have 100 miles of paths and joggers lanes in the park to walk/run on. They need road too. Also why are joggers allowed to run both directions in the joggers lane. They are supposed to run against traffic. Would prevent many of them from blindly turning into the road in front of oncoming cyclists.

Same old stories re-“Cycled” – what journalism! Ooooh, we found one going one mph over the speed limit. I ride in the park 5 days a week – speed is not the problem – riding like an ass(clown), being obnoxious or acting entitled are the real issues in my opinion. I bike a few days a week on my commuter bike (very dorky – most racers wouldn’t be caught dead on it) and it is very interesting how racers and tri-folks act towards those on non-racing machines. I get cut off, yelled at or passed in a dangerous maneuver. At least once a week some CRCAer or Tri-stud does something that makes me cringe – shouting at pedestrians, riding super-aggressively, acting self-important.

Let’s be smart, and good folks out there.

Hey Mark Santos, here’s a tip: keep your head up and out of your ass and maybe you won’t hit someone.

What an idot…

—————————

“It’s especially people walking in the middle of the street,” said Mark Santos, 20, a Manhattan College student who bikes in the park with a cycling team.

Santos said he hit a pedestrian walking with a group in the middle of a Central Park road a month ago.

“They saw me and they just kept walking. I put down my head for a second and then I actually collided with one them,” Santos said.

In fact, not even the Daily News wants that. They get page views and click throughs every 3 months when they publish this. That is gold to them

Marchionne Limit Screw

Wait till this investigative journalist from the NY Daily News finds out a guy that trains in Central Park is using sophisticated doping methods to speed even faster than the others!

Niccolo Internal Routing

Too bad they didn’t do an expose on leg shaving or the rampant use of “embrocation.”

Remi Butyl

>>> They could also focus on all the people walking and jogging on the road.

Don’t even go there, that is a losing argument. We are the odd man out and unwanted by the vast majority. Don’t ride like a dick and police our own. You see something (dickish behavior), say something.

Samuel Cage

The place where dogs have more rights then people, and all people/groups hate one and other. Sounds pretty much par for the course. Central Cluster****
