Fun with the geriatrics…

 

Racing, racing and more racing. This weekend brings many opportunities to show everyone how many desserts we have (or haven’t in my case) passed on this year in order to go up hills a few hundred feet long just a little faster. 

On Sat, all of you distinguished older gentlemen get a whole park race to yourselves at the CRCA Master’s Throwdown where i can imagine the conversations in the group will include many comments about how this newer generation has no idea how to handle their bikes and in YOUR day you were taught proper bike handling before you were allowed to enter a race and how the Simplex rear derailleur is still way better than any of this silly downtube or STI nonsense. Afterwards, I hear there is an early bird dinner special at 11am over at the Sizzler, which i am sure will be PACKED. The Cat 4 ladies also get their own race at the same time in race 2 of the CRCA Women’s Cat 4 Open Race Series. Elsewhere, there is the Prospect Park Challenge across the river for anyone who doesn’t fall into one of the above field requirements. The cool kids will be at the NY State Track Championship at Kissena, all vying for the sweet champions jersey NYSBRA hooked us up with. Registration ends today at noon.

On Sun, the racing at FBF continues with the W.S. United Graveyard Series. There will be a mixing of the old and young out in NJ at the NJ State Masters and Juniors Crit Championship. There is the Cycledrome Crit at T-Town. If you like hills, dirt and all the suffering that comes with combining those things, there is the Catskills Divide Road Race, which looks pretty awesome based on the recon vid someone put together here.

Thank god for Josh; giving the track a little love from NYV. Alas, Josh is young and so will be the kids racing Sunday at the track for the Kissena Junior Meet. All juniors are welcome to race, and only $5!! Registration closes for Sunday on Saturday at 6pm; for tomorrow’s meet you have until 7pm tonight to register.

I wouldnt be so sure about Mehi’s picks. The 35+ field is so small it will be a long 6 lap cock blocking festival. I dont see any reason to drag Gavin to the line. I think Alvin, Simon. Or Theodore. Is the favorite there. If not maybe Justin Lubely or a FGX guy.

For the 40+ there’s 70 guys to mark Olsen including Dave Taylor. Youre as much a sprint threat as any.

50+ Gerry Martinez. He’s the defending champ.

35+ Packfill

Any chance for a combined 35+ 40+ field? Not much fun to line up and race with less than 20 guys.

My belief;
1. Information is bought and sold.

2. The NYPD has an ongoing vendetta against bicyclists ever since TA went after them about sidewalk parking and other abuses.

3. Bicyclists are also easy to scapegoat– they’re a despised underclass.

You do realize that if you post these links, and people click through, you’re only encouraging the press to find and play-up as many stories like this as they can? Perhaps post a summary of the article instead.

why is team limit higher in the B field? and if you want the limit to be 7, why would you make it 8 next year and then 7 the following?

Was this really that important an issue. I would think between the doping and running over joggers the CRCA would have bigger issues than whether Siggis has too many guys in the B field.
