It’s hard to believe, but there are people out there that are still racing bikes. Astonishing. Well, since you people are still racing, I suppose that it’s my duty to let you know where these races will be happening.
There’s the final R&A Cycles New York Cycling Series Race in Prospect Park for mature racers, women and cat fives on Saturday.
Also on Saturday is the 2013 Kissena Omniium at the Kissena Velodrome.
On Sunday there’s the Kissena Junior Meet at the velodrome.

Or you can ride your bike to kissena and race your brains out and then get a cross bike and race your brains out.
But…. You need a car as well as a cross bike to race cross. Lord knows there is nothing remotely close to participate in. What is preventing us from racing in the parks through the month of September. Sure as heck would be racing outside in February!
The Pete Senia race used to be in the first week of October. I don’t know why what stopped happening. They used to get a respectable number of people racing.
I always heard that it was because the CRCA got the crappy dates (March, April). And the runners got the good ones (August, Sept). It’s not that the CRCA doesn’t want good weather, but they can only take the dates that are offered.
A couple of years ago Mengoni was in September. It’s really about the parks and what dates they give permits to race.
Thater in Binghamton is a blast, GMSR, Ft. Lee, Fair Haven, Mayor’s Cup in Boston in the next consecutive several weeks and the R&A series and FBF Graveyard series is going on locally. October and November is for CX, getting fat and reitroducing yourself to your significant others. Don’t fret, we have it better than most.
Take 2 minutes to look. There’s cx in jersey and LI all within an hour on the train. And you can race it on a $100 90s hardtail mtb off craigslist.
Racing is largely taken up by self-absorbed, entitled a-holes. Complain when you have it, complain when you dont.

It’s obvious that some of you have never lived anywhere beyond NYC. None of you have any clue how good and easy you have it when it comes to access to races? In New England teams drive for 3hrs to get to a 1hr crit. They don’t have the park races located in the cities. They don’t have nearly the amount of races NYC and the surrounding states does. Nowhere in the country comes even close to the number of races you can do in NY. Check out other popular cycling states. Colorado and Massachusetts combined don’t have the same number of races within a 2 hour’s drive of NYC. Get a zip car and go race.

half of your point is valid, nyc racers have it very, very good for most of the year. that shouldn’t stop us from wanting more. getting out of the city is much more of a pain in the ass, and an expense than you think. it’s not the same as leaving your sleepy suburb. 2 hours away is actually 4, and you may get stuck and miss the race altogether. price to pay

A note on physics. 2 hours is only 4 hours when you pass through the GWB continuum. The polarity is reversed on the return trip and 4 hours only takes 0 hours, so it actually balances out and New Yorkers are really just a bunch of self-absorbed whiners after all.
The one thing I don’t understand is with a city this large why is it that there only seems to be 3 race courses available (FBF, CP and PP)? For the sake of doing more races and considering the unbelievable number of bike shops in the city along with clubs and funds floating around (don’t get on me about funds, I admit I have no idea the state of cycling money in NYC)I would think a neighborhood or parking lot somewhere could be closed off for a race, similar to Harlem, but with a little less fanfair perhaps. For example, the financial district can’t possibly be all too crowded on a Sunday morning. Would it be too much for a local promoter to hold a race there and give you guys more races? Just an idea (that I’m sure has been discussed over and over before)
Hey Giancarlo, everyone here is saying how much better the NYC racing scene is than any other city. How’s Miami? Do you have racing every weekend within reasonable access? Does it get below freezing for a couple months a year? Are there great “race-like” group rides on weekdays AND weekends year-round? According to the people here it sucks everywhere else so maybe you can give us your insights.

@hello Isn’t it just like to whine about not having enough course and expecting someone else to do all the work finding another course. How about YOU go do some work and find another course? Just as an FYI, you forgot to mention Grant’s Tomb. The Wall Street area was used as a Pro race course a while back. Not to mention that that Governors Island was used for a race a couple years ago.
The wall st course was used only once. So, once in 12 years isn’t really great. Yes there is Grant’s tomb I forgot about that one. I was never complaining about the lack of races. If you read below you can see that I talk about how good NYC has it with so many races. Other people complained. I was ASKING why there aren’t more beyond the park races because the city is so large. Do you know the difference between asking a valid question and complaining? Also, I’m from NJ and not part of a NYC club, shop or team, so there are other people probably better suited to the dealings of promoting a NYC race.

NYC is so huge and so diverse that I am ashamed we don’t have multiple races on different courses within a mile of midtown (year round)! Which mayoral candidate will provide me better access to better races? I want my fair share of races!

@hello the wall st course was used more than once, at least twice. The reason there are not more races is that no one wants to put in the time and effort to put on more races. Also, there used to be the GS Parkridge race in NJ. Why not look into how you can get that race back.
