Hopeful Friday August 12, 2011

Giddy Up

There’s plenty of racing this weekend, with a full Prospect Park dance card and many other chances at athletic fulfillment.

Saturday there’s a CRCA club race in Central Park. Saturday also has the subtly named Blistered Butt road race in Prospect Park.

On Sunday in Prospect Park is the Calvert-Toefield Memorial Road Race, while up north there’s the Tokeneke Classic Road Race 2011 – New England Regional Road Race Championships.

With Greg Olsen leaving for Comedy Central and powerful sprinter Colin Prensky singing on the line for the famed park race powerhouse team there could be possible leadership problems for the men in orange.

On Friday morning during a training ride Ken Harris cleared things up stating “Presnky while a great sprinter will be riding as pack fill all next year — I’m going to be winning and we really need someone like him to ride in the middle of the pack and get caught up in wrecks from time to time. He’ll really be asset to the team.”

It’s looks as the Borrowes Brothers will no longer be “We Stand Divided” but will be just racing against each other. After a falling regarding who would lead the other in a recent race they promoted they have disbanded and Jermaine will be racing for Die Hard-Think and Horace has singed with Hudson Furniture.

not on adler

you are all so pathetic. Golsen has a crazy job, ken recently had a kid and prensky will be a doctor next year, and they still kill it… haters

URGENT!!!

The Calvert Toefield Race scheduled for Sunday, August 14, is canceled. My apologies for the incredibly short notice but this race does not have an official USAC Permit and cannot be held.

Please spread the word to whoever you can. Full refunds will be granted to whoever pre-registered.

Each race in Prospect Park requires a NYC Park Permit and a USAC permit (USAC permits are required for all the races I promote). The Park permit was obtained last November. I submitted all my USAC permits for the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup Series, the FBF series, the Kings County Challenge, the Kings County Circuit Race, the Kings County Kermesse, the Race for the Wine and the Tour de Parc in the Spring. I totally forgot to submit the Calvert-Toefield permit!! Last night when I was finalizing all the pre-race paper work I went to look for the race permit number and realized then the race was not issued a permit. I immediately tried to let as many people as possible know the race was cancelled. By the very low number of riders who pre-registered (45 total riders for ALL three fields) it doesn’t seem like many riders were interested in racing to begin with.

This morning I drove to Prospect Park and arrived at 5AM to let any riders who had not heard the news the race was canecelled. It was pouring rain and only 4 riders showed up.

I did a lap of the course and it was completely flooded. I would have had to cancel the race anyway since the narrow part after the downhill was a lake and was unsafe to race.

In my 7 years of race promoting this was the first time something like this has ever happened. My apologies again if it caused any problems. What can I say – I’m human.

Full refunds or a credit towards a future race will be given to the riders that pre-registered.

“Any chance this can be rescheduled for later in August or early September?.”

I’m afraid not. Prospect Park has issued me 9 race dates this year and the final race will be the “Kissena Fall Classic” held on Saturday, September 17. There will be a Pro/1-2-3 and Category 5 field. There will be no Cat 4 field. This race will also serve as the Kissena Club Championships so there will be a separate race for Kissena riders only.

Charlie: Thanks for your honesty in explaining what happened regarding the race permit. It all worked out that you and most of the racing community (save for the riders that did show up to race) were not too heavily penalized for this error.

Tony Soprano

That sucks. I was going to win. For sure.
Oh, wait. I was still sleeping at 6:30.

btw, I would have just lied and said it was cancelled because of unsafe conditions, but you’re a better man than me. Thanks, Charlie.

Add to the fact that you still suck at it, generally speaking, and that makes you a pretty pathetic individual.

Now go buy a new Di2 electronic gruppo as penance, let us know how it works.

Yea I did it. Rain was more or less over by the (9am) start of the cat 4 race. roads were really drying up by the 11am start of the 1s or 2s or 3s and womens race. Roads were really well paved for the most part. A couple silly falls early in the race in the 4s but not treacherous at all. Only 46 4’s showed up. Final sprint consisted of about 10 people.

Meg and Gina suck awesomely!

Jelly Fork

it was pouring at Tokeneke in the afternoon throughout the p/1/2 and Cat 3 races. Both of which were big fields.

Not too cold, just more of a distraction. Course was fast and mostly newly paved save for a three inch rut that ran diagonally right in the middle of the course along a curve. No crashes, however.

a1: Are you guys doing it?
a2: doood, I hear it may rain.
a1.a3: Yikes.
a2: Let’s ask greg if we can grab a muffin between showers instead.

cutty

driving 6 hours total to race 88 miles in the rain is not my idea of a fun sunday. this isn’t my job, i do it for fun. also, fuck you!
