Hopeful Friday April 27, 2012

Tweetful

Like the birds of spring flitting about repeating their "want to make more birds?" songs, so too are the racers of New York City filling public spaces in the early morning repeating their songs of spring. Was that a "holdja line" (NYVC occupies the #1 spot on google search fro that term, be proud NYC!) I just heard?

Special thanks go out to Josh for filling in with the Hopeful Friday and Hangover duties while I was in Iowa, we’d hire him to do it full time, but we have no hugs in our bank account—we pay in man embraces.

On Saturday in Prospect Park there’s the sadly Moser-free Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup Prospect Park Series race.

Up north in Ware, MA there’s the Quabbin Reservoir Classic Road Race.

At the Kissena velodrome there’s the Kissena Women’s Track Clinic.

On Sunday, there’s a Spring Series Race in Prospect Park, and another track racing clinic at Kissena.

Still have not received my prize money after several emails and phone calls. I jump through all the hoops and still nothing. Was I this incompetent when I was a college student?

What about Rock Lititz Tour (the old Tour de Ephrata). It is closer than Quabbin. $80 for 3 races on awesome courses/roads.

The Floyd Bennett Field Tuesday Night Series starts next Tuesday, May 1.

It’s the 20th Anniversary of the series and the original founders of the series, Tony and Milie, will be the guest starters of the race.

Marlton is closer than Quabbin as well. But in the NYC cycling blogsphere Quabbin is a race NY teams are doing and Marlton and the Rock Lititz Tour aren’t as much on that radar.

Yeah, what’s with the slavish love for New England races. No one from NYC will do the Turkey Hill race but 100’s will go an extra 1.5 hours to BK, the Vermont races and all the Mike Norton races. Has never made any sense to me. The Marlton races are always good and run well too.
I think Cat 4’s think NE races are more ‘epic’.

IT’S A SIMPLE EQUATION

The closer & cheaper entry/better payout the race, the more hate, the further away & more expensive/less payout the race, the more praise

gotta love NYCers
