Hopeful Friday April 22, 2011

Hope=eternal

The parks will be active and there’s opportunities for glory up north, so let’s see what the weekend’s racing has in store for we in the lycra ensembles.

Saturday has a CRCA Club Race in Central Park, and the opening round of the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup in Prospect Park. Up north in Ware, MA there’s the Quabbin Reservoir Classic Road Race.

Sunday has the final race of the Spring Series in Prospect Park.

who know

as a non-USAC race, its very hard to predict what the race will bring. Non-USAC means there are no known rules in effect.

Since the promoter has chosen not to use USAC rules and policies for this race (and not publish his own rules), confusion for me as to how this race will be run exactly. No need for a USAC license to race, and no way of enforcing what categories people race in, as they cannot use any USAC info, since its not USAC sanctioned.

No upgrade points for the unwise cat5 racers who will show up in the cold and rain expecting it to count for one of their ’10’, is a definite.

Not clear on the extent of marshaling and safety. No ability to sanction or disqualify riders, so cross the yellow line as you please – no ramifications if you do. There will be no USAC officials at this race to enforce.

Sound dangerous? Maybe. Maybe not.

Rayan Saddlesore

It’s a great course, and well organized race. Except for upgrade points, I see no differences.

Noa Bottle

Why the hostility? As the below poster mentioned, Quabbin is a great race, and, save for the lack of upgrade points, it is virtually identical to a USAC sanctioned race.

Lukas Stiff

3:15 here’s the rules: start race, ride fast, don’t fall down, try to win or place on podium via the final sprint, finish race.

good luck.

Gonzo

I think “WHO KNOW” raise some valid points.
However, given that Mike Norton, has been promoting GREAT races in the past(Sturbridge/Palmer) and the whole reason behind hosting Quabbin away from the USA cycling is bc of the insurance issues – From reading his websites and speaking w/ him with him, his insurance will cover you better than if you raced a USA cycling race if you get hurt. He is on the racers “side”. Last thing he wants to do is harm his reputation or participants. So, I am pretty confident that he will have marshals and other necessary measures in place…But again, those are valid questions. Perhaps ask him directly rather than speculate too much especially in negative light?

Lorenzo Crank

No one is forcing you to go. Stay home or go get your little league trophy for your participation in a CAT 5 race.

Michele Nipple

How heavy does this rain have to be to cancel the race? The only thing worse than racing in the rain is showing up to race in the rain and then not racing.

Luca Housing

hey check out the hot SRAM stuf going for real cheap on eBay…item #220770835095 and 220770838688…think this stuff is the real deal?!?! (perfect rainy day for me to spend some bucks as an Easter present for me) ?!?

Tony Soprano

Quabbin was not USACycling sanctioned in 2010 either, so this is nothing new:
https://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?EventID=9832
It’s just an excellent race on a nice course run by one of the best promoters in the northeast. All USAC rules are followed except the requirement to buy over-priced insurance that provides little coverage. USAC does not have to count quabbin for upgrades, but they did for some last year.
I hope “who know” at 3:15 enjoys his Spring Series race and appreciates the valuer he gets from AvD’s race. (no upgrade points there either if he doesn’t submit the results.)

Recco Wave Ring

nice one, hammerindioslaki– not too transparent. Very much like the VoMax attention-getters.

Luca Housing

yeah but seriosly. ya’ think the shit is real. Looking at the photos and the price?! hard for me to tel.

Dan's Turd

It is Mengoni to Foundation in this case.
Also please, one “______ to Mengoni” per thread”. It is too good to overuse.

Wattle hut

I imagine many riders signed up to race because of the unique course. If it is going to be like the course in the spring 2010, I imagine many climbers will not be interested in doing it. Will CRCA or bikereg consider giving racers refund?

Matthias Threadlock

Raquel miller cat 4 from CRCA/houlihan-lokey sanchez team won by a solo break and took over 3 min over the main field, Kate Amos got 4th and Kristin Lotito got 7th in 1-2-3… Awsome day for the NYC woman Sanchez team!!!….

Tony Soprano

Bikereg explicitly states that they do not offer refunds. CRCA usually does and in this case they’ll have to since they’ll have to cut the number of fields and the length of most races.

Legal system

Quabbin for the hardcore indeed, 35 degrees with contant pissing down rain throughout, with many riders turning around after just a few miles in.

Congrats to james stevens for taking 3rd in pro 1,2. And james ruhl winning the cat 3 , a lot of local riders made the trip up to get soaking wet.

Great race and well organised and great payout.

CRCA Open Race Director

With the tremendous help of Alan Atwood, the Board is working with PIPC to figure out a course and what races will be run. As some of you may have noticed, registration on Bikereg.com is closed until CRCA knows exactly what the race schedule will be. Many of you have also contacted me concerning registration issues. Please be assured that all of this will be worked out as soon the course and schedule is finalized.

Kylian Lorica

Not him, the real TT Vegan is very fat, and would be spewing words of advice here for Pro racers just after only racing four Cat5 events. For all you haters out there (I am one), the guy is a Cat2 and never even raced 10 mass start Cat5 events… thankfully, I dont think he even “races” anymore… but he is still “pro as shit!”

Guido Sarducci

I can’t imagine how anyone could find the climb from the parkway turnaround to lake welch to be easier than tioratti is beyond me, but ok.

dirt pot head!
