Aw I was totally going to race this weekend, but this shocking news about Chodroff has crushed my spirit. I can no longer look at my bike without disgust. Imagine, riders, doing drugs?! Well I certainly wont trust anyone ever again.
Last race in Prospect=False
There’s the Pete Senia Memorial on October 3rd. http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=11512
You’ll be wailing like a baby by the time the list is known…
For reals. Is the Joe Papp Drug Store still up and running? My dog needs some EPO.
Penultimate = next to last
Are you saying Chodroff reached for more than clean underwear in his suitcase of courage?
WOW WHAT A FUCKING DOUCHE
What I can’t understand is that he bought it in early 2007?! He was a cat 3 that year! WTF. I raced against him that year.. He crushed the Fitchburg TT beating all but one Cat 1. How many other cat 3’s are doping? This is beyond ridiculous. I bet if we had all known about Papp’s website there’d be about 40% of local racers who would at least try EPO.
Go to a belgian kermesse.
Congratulations. You just met 50 dopers. Many doped up right now.
Get over it. you’ll still be beat if they were clean. NEXT.
Said Chodroff. “If you get caught you should be fully honest.”
It’s worth considering being honest in general, as it makes getting caught rather less likely.
Who give a fuck about Belgian Kerwhatevers. Ever hear a Belgian talk? Sounds cross between the Swedish Chef and a drunk Julia Childs. Damned well need a damp towel to wipe the spit off your face after being on the receiving end of a long conversation with a Belgian.
forget about the Belgian Kermesse, obviously local shitty Cat 3 races are littered with dopers.
I can’t wait to see the full Papp list. I don’t care if they are your friend, or mine, and claim to be nice guys. they are cheaters and should be publicly ridiculed and banned from racing for life.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/chodroff-admits-to-epo-purchase-and-use
chodroff’s language throughout that piece is annoying as shit. not a genuine confession with remorse. forced into it and saying as little as possible.
Shen How’d you improve your TT’ing this last year/year and a half? How much was the engine, how much was the gear, how much was the position?
Chodroff I think it is a combination of all three. However, I think the position played the biggest dividends. I am putting out a bit more sustained power this year compared to last, but nothing crazy. For example, I averaged the same power for the ’07 and ’08 Fitchburg TT. I went 1:10 faster this year!
Um….
Everybody cheats. I just didn’t know.
So funny . If and only if you get caught . Then it is time to be honest
BTW, emailed Chodroff, we’ll see if he wants to talk.
Ok, who’s up next?
So do you think there’s doping locally, as in Cat 3, Cat 4, CRCA racers?
“So do you think there’s doping locally, as in Cat 3, Cat 4, CRCA racers?”
To help you understand the problem, and I have seen this referenced many places (http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Anabolic+Steroid+Use), it was estimated that 500,000 high school seniors in the U.S. have used steroids. Most of them were not even on sports teams. They were using in order to improve their appearance. If that many people are using, just to look better, I am sure there are dopers in just about every competition.
So, yes, there are definitely dopers in every category, Masters, Juniors, and even meaningless club races.
– Rider who hopes more riders get caught, so I don’t look like I suck as bad
There’s a ton of dopes in local 4 races.
Chodroff’s results show a few things. His TT’s got better, but his road racing and criterium racing remained poor (as compared to his TT results).
From what I understand, he was not good at understanding the flow of the race and could never use his strength during a group race. In the harder stage races, pro teams wouldn’t even bother to defend the leader’s jersey that he would win in an opening TT.
JC’s results; I raced some of those same cat 3-4 races and the part that makes me the most annoyed is that I am still doing the same races with worse results- I still suck!
So he Doped just to Win Time trials. He’s a Bonehead. So the pro teams picked him up for his results in TT’s. wrong ?
As of this AM, there were trees down around Grand Army Plaza, including one enormous sucker sheared off mid-trunk and blocking the entire roadway midway up the hill. Park Drive littered with branches (sizeable enough to not be able to roll over).
Ironically, days like this make me happy they still allow cars in the park part-time. Hopefully one rush hour and all that ground debris gets crushed to sawdust; chipper takes care of the rest. I imagine the slothlike workers at Parks, if the drives were totally car-free, would clear the drives somehwere around the 12th of Neveruary.
Chodroff responded, wants stay quiet for now.
Who was coaching him at Cadence? Wonder if that coach had any idea?
Joe Papp was coaching him to take the dope. The dope showed the dope how to use it and get caught also. Then say sorry forgive me.Cheater
“I have to make it clear too that I had no relationship or communication with Papp directly. I have never met him or talked to him before. It was completely on my own and acted individually. My actions have no connections with any other riders.â€
Message to fans: Toughness is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles.
http://jellybellycycling.com/2010-riders/jonathan-chodroff/
So who told Jon Chodroff about Joe Papps website? He stated he never spoke to Joe Papp before, so who spoke to Joe on his behave for the drugs? Is that person a DOPER also?
He looks like a sock monkey. Just saying.
who told him about the website? let me google that for you idot
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129359637
“The only bad (good) news from Gundersen’s study might be for athletes who dope. Steroids also give you more muscle nuclei. “And if those are permanent,” he says, “then the benefits that you have gotten from your cheating might also be permanent.
“And then, I guess, it’s reasonable to suggest that exclusion time after [a] doping offense should be forever.”
This year at 5:45am before the Mengoni race, parks workers cleared a large tree branch that was totally blocking the West Drive at 97th St and made it possible for us to start the race at 6am. I do not know if they were Dept of Parks or CPC. They did a good job to help us at an unusual time of day.
Last year the park road was cleared of debris in time for Mengoni after a tornado like storm wiped out over 500 trees in Central Park a few days earlier. Parks and CPC worked to clear the park as quickly as possible.
Some standard stereotypes do not hold up.

Did i touch a nerve? Did you give him the drugs then? So the CHEATER must be your friend ?He’s a Cheater Period!!!!!!!!! Have a nice day doper friend
Those guys were dopers! No way could guys not on the juice get that done in time.
Chodroff is one weird looking dude. Poor guy
Can’t wait for the Chodroff caricature in the next Toto!
Looking back, was it worth it?
Who is the Jens Voigt of the NYC Peloton? The guy that if you heard was doping or was busted for doping you would be crushed and totally give up on the local scene Most guys who follow the pro level all say its Jens. So …
CJ
schmalz = jens
both Schmalz and CJ are good with the internet so they could have found Papp’s online store. hmmmmm
“Now, the Star-Belly Sneetches had bellies with stars.
While the Plain-Belly Sneetches had none upon thars.
Those stars weren’t so big. They were really quite small.
You might think such a thing wouldn’t matter at all. . .â€
Any chance that tomorrow PP race will be canceled or affected by the debris from yesterday’s storm?
Tomorrow’s Prospect Park race is still on. The debris is being cleared today.

JP Partland bought illegal hair products online, the FDA has the evidence.
JP, if you are reading this I urge you to come clean and admit what you have done. Please tell us all what you have used and how you have used it. We know there’s no way your hair is not doped!
i always thought jp didn’t wash his hair
wait, what? people think jens is just a hard worker?
this place seems pretty anti-doper. why was there no dedicated chodroff thread with a link to the story? not newsworthy enough?
do we only like to bash on famous celebrity dopers?
genuinely curious. seems likes that’s not burying the lede, it’s ignoring it.
i loved this line: “If you get caught you should be fully honest.”
awesome.
cant believe he ‘fessed up right away instead of denying. what a pansey! clearly did not have the mental strength, fortitude, and moral flexibility necessary to be a big-time pro. good riddance, wuss.
the nice guys are over there, boys, in 7th place…
My Friday is no longer hopeful.
Will there be doping control at the Kissena Fall Classic?????
not to hijack this from the awesome three ring circus of local racing scandal, but the USACrits series finished up the season last night. Its nice to see the strong representation from our local teams. Sorry to see Clayton couldn’t take back the lead, but Lisban moved up to third, and Gavi was up there as well (2nd in the U-25). Can we still claim Neil as a local? Congrats, guys.
how much he doped while on the Yale Crew team. Does he have to give back any wins he “earned” there?
Wondering same thing. If HS kids are juicing for FB and wrestling there’s definitely doping in even more highly competitive college rowing.
http://usantidoping.org/files/active/resources/press_releases/Press%20Release%20-%20Chodroff%20-%20September%202010.pdf
His palmares: a perfect picture OF MEDIOCRITY. What a pathetic little puss**. Hence his lame admission to almost nothing. If you are reading: f*c* you!
little bit of a love fest for chodroff on peloton east. interesting…
But not so good for a Road Race. Was just there about 10 mins ago and could solidly go 10 MPH but anything over that was dicey and surely would be flat inducing. I’ll be impressed if that actually get it all cleaned up for tmrw’s race.
I have no sympathy for this j-off. He gives up NOTHING for admitting to the use of performance enhancing drugs; apparently he was going to leave the sport anyway. . .
I’m waiting for the Rapha dope.
Riders never spill on their team management’s involvement, even when leaving the sport, worried other teammates may be out of a job. Live with the lies then, guess it doesn’t take much character to be an athlete…
Get juiced!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMqemXx1e9M
According to the press reease, he has to give up all results, medals and prize money. If I was a promoter of one of the events, I’d try to recover the ill-gotten-prizes and distribute it to the rightful winners. Hey, I might even move up from 38th to 37th place!
“Chodroff’s two-year period of ineligibility began on September 10, 2010, the day he accepted the sanction. Additionally, Chodroff is disqualified from all competitive results achieved on and subsequent to March 26, 2007, the date he first committed the anti-doping rule violations based on evidence currently in USADA’s possession, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.”
everything i saw while rowing in college, granted i was not at an ivy, spoke against doping. In the USA, there is just not much incentive for elite rowers. again, I was on a competitive D-III school, but never once suspected anybody of doping, even monster guys from the big IRA schools. I have several friends who continued to row elite after school, for USA including going to the U-23 worlds and I can confidently say that doping is not a part of the sport like it is in cycling. Football, etc, on the other hand, is another deal.
Goldmans comments about Chodroff are priceless.
Any press release from the bicycle racing team Meredith Group-GPOA-Cannondale, who Chodroff raced for when he first began his doping?
try it

Chodroff was framed.
Chodroff was framed.
“According to the Justice Department, Papp imported the drugs from the Chinese manufacturer, Shandong Kexing Bioproducts Company and sold the drugs to approximately 187 customers, including cyclists and other athletes, throughout the United States and internationally.”
-Velonews
it does not sound like the names of people on that list will come out until there is an admission of guilt or a lengthy $$$ process? Am I reading this correctly? Could it be 2 years before we get the names of all the cyclists?
Tomorrow’s race is CANCELLED!!!
Due to the recent storm that swept through the NYC area, the Parks Dept. has informed us tomorrow’s Prospect Park race (the Kissena Fall Classic) is cancelled. There is too much debris in the road and it can not be removed in time for the race.
We have requested a make-up date for this race and as soon as the date is confirmed it will be announced. If you have pre-registered for this race, the entry can be transferred to the make-up race or a refund can be issued.

Wha happen to the Race to Kuddle Kissena?
A couple of years ago, a bunch of u assholes were on this site virtually sucking chodroff’s cock, and praising crew as the secret to cycling prowess. He was a doper all along. Ha!!!
ouch, that must have hurt
But things don’t happen in Brooklyn the same way they happen in the Great Big Fancy Park.
After riding around the area, though, there’s a lot to break down and pick up. There isn’t a single tree on Flatbush Avenue from GAP to Fifth Avenue not sheared off partially or totally.

…isnt doping?
Maybe this one?
Phinney, son of 1991 pro road race national champion Davis Phinney and 1984 Olympic road race gold medalist Connie Carpenter.
To be perfectly honest, Chod was never a very good or strong rower. My rowing teammates and I, who got into cycling post-college, were always a bit surprised when Chod turned out to be so strong on the bike.
are you saying that because he’s phinney’s son, that he’s not a doper? i fail to see that as logical in any way, especially as phinney sr was a doper.
as was carpenter

another “Pap Smear”
Are you ready?
Are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
This next rider wont be Flying V for very much longer.
phil zajicek! the gossip is so juice-y. who cares. jaded.
I was at the 07 nationals when Phinney first got on the track, and I left with the impression that he was the most talented bike racer I had ever seen. And he did not look good on the bike. He was literally and metaphorically a head taller than everyone else there. If he’s doping, it’s a victory for culture over nature: I’ve never seen someone who would need less ‘help.’
many people have said similar things about Lance… natural talent, physical freak of nature..yada, yada, yada…
Phinney is an absolute beast, and pretty much anybody whose ever seen him ride, pro or otherwise, has had the same thoughts as Ken. He is pretty much what somebody would make with gene doping in a test-tube baby situation. He is one of those riders who, if he was found to be cheating, would sicken me more than a thousand Jens Voigts. Like Ken says, he just doesn’t even come close to needing it. I just hope he stays on the track long enough to get a world record in the pursuit.

big brother looking into your purchasing habits and declaring “non-analytical adverse findings” is creepily orwellian.
Um, they’re looking into your purchases of a controlled substance from a criminal.
Because you saw phinney in 2007, he’s therefore not a doper?
I’m not saying he is, nor do i care. I just think your vouching for him in general is pretty empty, and your logic therein a bit vain and comical.
not much with the reading, eh ernesto?
With apologies to those with normal reading comprehension, I will restate my comment:
My impression is that Phinney is the most talented rider I have seen, therefore my conclusion is that if he is doping it is a victory of (cycling drug) culture over (natural) talent.
The only fact therein is my impression. I do see comedy, but little vanity, here. I am vouching for the existence of genuine talent, and sustaining the perhaps fallacious dichotomy of nature/nurture.
Chodroff was tested twice in 2008, I assume once was after winning Nationals TT. He passed. He was tested once in 2010 and passed. That could mean he wasn’t doping, or test didn’t find positive or he stopped in time to avoid positive but got benefits of doping.
Would be interesting to find out.
Number of times athletes are tested is posted on usada website. Armstrong was most tested athlete by usada, Kristin Armstrong.
I can’t imagine that the epo test was not standard in testing cyclists by 2008
I doubt the EPO test was used on Chodroff
j-j-j – jive talkin’

aero dude!
The test for epo is a stand alone test, not included in normal drug testing, it is very expensive. I do not believe that USADA regularly uses the test- if they did Leogrande would have tested positive at Superweek and not two years later due to the testimonial of his soigneur. This is all very likely to change.
“they’re looking into your purchases of a controlled substance from a criminal.”
your semantics/bias help make my point for me.
also, “they” = the USADA. they are not tasked with investigating criminal activity in the US. if one of the rules of the sports they govern is that i need to let them sniff my pee, fine. i can then either agree to compete or not, depending on how i feel about trading off my civil liberties for enjoying the competition.
i don’t ever remember allowing them to investigage my purchasing habits. guess that was in the fine print.
creepy. as. hell.
didn’t pulla test positive for EPO, though? seems crazy that they would bother testing for anything if not EPO.
yeah, it’s not that creepy. just stop buying drugs with your credit card.
Better to pay cash to those Columbian guys who sell bike stuff out of their garage up in Nyack
The feds won’t let him buy illegal drugs with my very own credit card? Man up and put a drug mule to work.
