This weekend brings some new experiences and some well known experiences as well.
On the well known side is the CRCA Master’s Championships in Central Park on Saturday, with a new twist of a finish on 97th street. There will also be B and C fields – along with a women’s 3/4 field.
In the familiar camp on Saturday is the Cadence Cup Prospect Park Series in Prospect Park.
Sunday brings the very new Tour of Governor’s Island race, open this time to 3s and 4s only.
And if you feel like traveling, there’s the Tour de Christiana Criterium in Christiana, PA.
So there’s opportunities for both new and familiar racing experiences out there – like going to your favorite restaurant and leaving your pants at home. Which I do not recommend, especially if you enjoy the pizza at Chuck E. Cheese.

That is a very nice article that Reed Albergotti wrote on Evelyn Stevens. Good luck to her in France!
What was evie’s alpine hillclimb time?
You guys are worse than a bunch of Heathers in the cafeteria…What’s her watts, what’s her hill climb time …..you’re like a socially regressed, lobotomized version of Woodward and Bernstein. The best is the critic talking about her ‘not so light bike.’ Super creepy think of him lurking over photos of her and her equipment, and then posting some stupid missive.
What’s very clear is you don’t know her. Anyone who spent 10 seconds with her would know she’s worth rooting for. You guys are still wacking it to Gulla’s park races and she’s 10x the rider he ever was. Get over yourselves.
“wacking it to gulla’s park races”…great line, but ewwwwwwww!!!!
2.37, i think you might need to calm down a little. now that i’ve gotten over myself i find that i’m still curious as to what her alpine time was.
I weigh 145lbs and I do repeats at 325 or so watts for 5:45ish (all the way to the parking lot). It takes 350+ to go into the 5:20s. I’ve done sub 5 and those are probably closer to a 400ish watt effort – didn’t have a power meter at the time.
I’m pretty Evie can do 325+ watts for 5+ minutes. And she prob weighs 110 lbs or less (and I love every ounce of it). So I suspect she can bang out an Alpine Climb in close to 5 mins flat these days. So stick that in your cat 4 pipe and inhale. Inhale indeed.
But I’m sure there are some numbers geeks on this site (would you believe) who could figure it out within a few seconds.
That’s the creepiest thing I’ve ever read on this site. The article says that she had male friends were there, ask them?
3:59 prefers cannibal-style time trials, and occasionally likes to have friends for dinner….
I love that someone asks about Evie’s alpine time and some random dude posts his time — like it was special.
About 90% of the NYC bike racing folks can climb alpine in 5:45 to the parking lot. It is a non achievement.
Evie is awesome.

ALERT
he must be an ex-rower. or novelist.
He has 11 races. So he is sandbagging for 1 race. Maybe he wants some more pack riding/racing experience before he has to deal with all the d-bags at PP in the Cat4s.
If you are complaining about Cat5s winning 12 mile races then you need to find a new sport. It does not get easier.
Avoid PP Cat 4 dbags, join CRCA.
i think it was an automatically generated alert from usacycling. he won in prospect today also, that makes 12.
ohmigod, a guy new on the scene is…get this…winning?!?
good lord what’s going to happen to him? will he be forced to do something drastic like, say, upgrade?
the horror! the horror!
of course, he can stay a cat 5 for as long as he wants! if he can sleep at night.
John Durso, 43, wins Cadence Cup Prospect Park Series Overall.

the dude desperately needs better teamates. just sayin’
maybe he just needs to be a better teammate first.
Champion sitting on the 11 man break at Charlotte, take ~7th
hasn’t trained in 3 years and the guy can still beat 97% of the club 1,2,3 ‘s in a 7 lap CRCA race on a mountain bike held together with masking tape and some rusty screws with his jeans and running shoes on.
… and when he was racing he didn’t have a stinking heart rate monitor or power meter, didn’t have a $200 a month coach, and worked as a messenger by day … pay some respect to the genetically gifted before bad-mouthing
Dude make sure to close the blinds…
lol all ill do is laugh …u really took the time to see how many races iam winning? ok ill say this cycling isnt about talking its about results dsnt matter if iam in the 5ves or not ….tell me this what space did u get today?….and ive said it before “patience” ull get ure turn. k o and thanks guys (haters) ..its pep like u that fuels me…keep hating , and i dnt mind a few more haters always room 4 more k. lol

link?
Clayton Borrows (CRCA-Empire) kicked off the first breakaway of the night. He was quickly followed by Yosvany Falcon (Champion Porsche) and Dirk Pohlmann (Texas Road House). Heavy activity on the front of the peloton brought back the early move countered yet again by both teams CRCA-Empire and Texas Road House’s aggressive tactics. But despite the two squads’ nearly endless string of attacks, it was Valeriy Kobzarenko (Team type 1) who proved most aggressive during the twilight race.

Who cares they were active! They weren’t in the break! When the shit hit the fan they faltered.
At least they didn’t sit around and wait for the win to come to them.
http://www.velonews.com/photo/96464
I heard that the break went and Champion bridged up to the break SOLO. From a few sources already. That guy Euris used to be a pro with Caico – so it is for sure within his ability. Also, there were a number of follow up attacks which included Empire, Champion and United.. Nice to see NYC representing in such a big race. Congrats has to go those teams – regardless of whether you like them or not. Ray, Mike,Burrows and John I are doing a stand up job for NYC racing. Very cool.
So – impressive that Champion got in the break and great efforts by the other NYC teams that were there. Hats off to all you.
Champion will hopefully qualify for Vegas.
great coverage (with 3 host commentary) the most impressive move, other than the winning one was Luis Amaran of Colavita soloing up to the break with about 20 to go crossing a 15-20 second gap when the front 10 were smoking…i couldn’t belize it.
Are they testing at this race
12:29 – come on, wanker. [heavy sigh]

A 19 year old sandbagger? I think your worries are misplaced.
Note that 2nd place was double that age, with 3 kids.
Just can’t win this one!
No, second place was three times his age, with two grandkids.
scott, people hate on you because you are beating up on people at the same short, slow race every week. if that “fuels” you, so be it. but understand it’s the equivalent of graduating 3rd grade math, then re-taking it and talking crap when you do better than everyone on a test. time to take 4th grade math, buddy. long division is scary, i know, but put on your big boy underpants and upgrade. either that or at least join CRCA and come race the C field at CP, where the races are twice as long and much faster.
Shut up, Cat 5 squid. You shouldn’t even have access to a keyboard. Get in line for gruel and bed by 6 PM.
a lot of nonsense about Capala consistently on this board
First year out of junior gears – and he wins 123 races also Nice kid – a class act
Must be from all the driftwood that got shelled out the back You should all downgrade to cat 5
Alvin Poblacion (FGX) had a big win at Tokeneke today among a unusually strong cat. 4 field. He’s raced strong all season, looking great most recently at Hilltowns, but this is a terrific finish for a great guy, well deserved. Congrats Alvin!
DC
but he’s no Capala
alvin raced really strong today. a win well deserved.
First year out of junior whatever.
I fail to see how being a nice kid makes you less of a sandbagger. Capala needs to be racing as 2 (at least)
um, yeah, OK …… thanks for the advice.
So ends the semiannual board posting excursion. There seems to be no end to this downhill.

GUYS! The NYC triathlon is on channel 9 NOW!!!!!
triathletes can’t ride.
“he’s only 19” is a stupidly lame excuse when he’s killing everybody. he’s NOT in junior gear anymore. he’s proved that he can handle 3s and 4s pretty damn well. i really like the guy, nice as can be and very gracious. but that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t upgrade and face the challenge of racing the big boys. its not as if he’s new to racing and can’t handle it.
Why was the 3/4 a Tour of Governor’s Island and the 1/2/3 the Gran Prix of Governor’s Island? Charlie was vaguely insulting us. I fear what a 4/5 race would be called.
scott, iam sopriced that ur such a good spllr
It would be called the Governors Island Fun Ride for Freds and Others Who Don’t Pedal So Good.
Charlies wasn’t insulting anyone (unlike me). It’s common for the main event to be billed as the main event. The 3/4 race ain’t the main event.
he is a good kid, good rider, etc. but if he wants to go pro (which supposedly he does) he needs to start riding in the big(ger) leagues.
Follow Evie!
http://www.org-rc.fr
It would be called the Hal JaLine Classic
Or the Meandering of Governor’s Island
scott unsavory grammar–look forward to hearing from you again!
Pardon my ignorance, but what’s this guy wearing on his wrists? Are they just sweatbands?
http://www.velonews.com/photo/96472
Filip probably sits at home laughing his ass off at you losers who go on and on and on about his wins. That’s if he even spends as much as 1/1,000,000th of his time thinking about his racing as you do.
YOU ARE A 3!!!
Nothing better than a speedy Cat. 4….
Chill the F out….

for a very hot USA team photo of Evie! 16th in the prologue…
GO EVIE! in it with the big euro bitches!!!
Viva la Freedom Fries!
pretty sure you don’t need to qualify for vegas, you can just go if you’re a cat 1 or pro, just like any other NRC or USA crits race. hah!
some of those race registrations in the past were password protected, such as Athens, Harlem, and ING Capital in DC (last year) so you do have to qualify or know someone…so blow it out your meathole, fruitloop.
I took two or three photos of the Tour of Governors Island on Sunday. Check them out here: http://www.cyclingcaptured.com/gallery/9218535_bV6Lm
3s can’t sandbag. if you’re a 3, then you’ve (hopefully) won a race or two. capala is doing pretty well w/o the advice of the cat 3 crowd he’s beating. if you can’t beat filip and don’t like it, downgrade. sandbagging only exists at the 4/5 level.
Not true. P/1/2s certainly can’t sandbagbut Cat 3s can. Especially 19 year old ones.
What else would you call what Filip Capala is doing? Nice win and all (amongst all the others) but it’s sort of embarrassing at this point to not move up a level.
with over 20 wins in the past 3 years should move up and race the 2s. I think he won a Pr1-3 race this spring at bethel. Says alot about how strong he is. Also, guys he was beating last year and the year before have all moved up to the 2s and 1s. Its arguable that you cant sandbag at the Cat3 but there is a difference between a 42year old Cat3 training 10 hours a week and a 19year old training as much as he wants with lots of upside and winning more times than he looses. I suspect this will be his last year as a Cat3 before he is racing the next level (which btw seems to burn out some of the best new racers).
“What else would you call what Filip Capala is doing?”
Winning.
What would I call what you’re doing?
Whining.
Capala’s got to decide if he’s serious about the sport. If he’s serious he’s got to get on a real team for next year. But good programs ,like Sakonnet was, will pretty much take only Cat 1’s. Little chance for a Cat 2 and no chance for a Cat 3.
Pretty much means he’s going to have another year racing by himself and won’t have a chance to for a real program until he’s 21.
If he is serious about the sport and I don’t know if he is, he is wasting his time.
The class of juniors he came up against are all Cat2s and 1s now and doing well. He should be a Cat1 by now if he upgraded and raced what he is good at – crits and circuit races. Best of luck to him. He is ready for the next level.
Sandbagging as a concept only exists at the 4/5 level. Because some Cat 4/5s may never win a race, staying at their level and continuing to take wins robs those guys of their one chance.
Once you move up, that’s it. You have your few wins. (Right?) Now you get to beat all comers in your category. Newsflash: some will be significantly stronger than you. Welcome! If you really want more wins and yet can’t beat the current crop, then downgrade.
Can Cat 2s complain about ‘bagging? 1s? Domestic pros? Masters 35+ riders? Where does it end?
It ends at the 4/5 level, that’s where. No one above Cat 4/5 who’s worth his salt will complain about ‘bagging. No one.
I love the “[X] rider really needs to do [Y]” comments. Those who can’t, eh? I’m sure [X] has managed to live his life pretty well without the advice from the muppets who keep finishing behind him.
Sandbagging only exists at the Cat3 level. 4/5 isn’t even considered racing – that’s just warm up time for beginners. Real racing is P/1/2…3’s is a continuation of the preperatory phase, so to win consistently at that level is sandbagging when they should be trying out real races.
