The Green Mountain Stage Race begins today. The forecast calls for pain.
The 43rd Kissena labor Day Track meet is Monday, go on out and see all the racers who won titles at Master’s Nationals on bike with no brakes and no gears.

I will be starting my vacation this weekend, so next week will be schmalz-free! Your fondest wishes fulfilled! Expect a drastic reduction in buttock references.
And here’s more track news, cut and pasted from Jared:
Off topic, but this is the place to be off topic:
The K-Town krew is tearing it up, Ken Harris won the 40-44 Points race at Masters Nationals. Karl Roesler finished 4th in the 30-34 Sprint. La Cupcake is bringing home the Bronze in the 35-39 Sprint, and Laura Summers acquired another bronze medal. Congrats all! Keep em’ coming (the medals).
if you were thinking about going, just send me your money and do something else.
Jerry Martinez 4th in the 45-49 points race.
In the other thread someone posted that Nelson Li took a bronze in the 40-44 sprint.
when are these track races going on? during the week? does anyone have a job?
Rhythm maybe. The other two aspirations are well beyond your reach.
mid week racing sucks in general. I keep having to check the blackberry when I’m not racing. Track racing is probably no worse. Congrats to those that medaled.
whats with the 5 year age brackets at this track event? I think maybe I could place top 5 in one of these brackets with a month or two of track training, since I figure about 20 people race track in each bracket in total! Are there open category events too, or just 5 year brackets? Who is winning those? Not sayin the winners arent good racers or anything…just pointing out the fact of a small niche in cycling against what seems like a massive sub-categorization of riders that reminds me of a medal ceremony fest like my old T ball league in 3rd grade. The only kids who went home without a trophy were the ones who didnt show up!
Just to point out the obvious but they have the same 5 year age brackets at road nationals for almost as many events – crit, TT, road. If you race on the road, you should do great there too.
Personally, I can’t wait until I’m old enough to race masters nationals.
10 Wrestlers suspended for violating steroid policy:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/more/08/30/WWEban.ap/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
Isn’t that like arresting a soldier for carrying a gun?
Something tells me that this is a PR move, though. The wwf would not reveal the names of any of the performers, nor do they reveal anything about testing proceedurs(ie how many? how often? for what? to whom?) Also, they give a 30 day suspension for a first offense and a 60 day for the second. Not exactly harsh. What is that 4 matches?
Is like suspending the guy who wears the purple dinosaur suit in “Barney on Ice”.
yo, got some crits for all the flat landers who havent started their off season yet. check it. sunday.
i’ll be doing the 3’s and 35 plus.
Will this be the last Fall Bear race? Not much interest besides the Cat 4’s.
Bunde, Roesler and Harris would likely kick your ass at any road race or track race no matter how hard you trained. These guys are talented on the track and the road. I am willing to be that if you put in a whole year at the track you would still not medal at Masters Nationals. By the way, Bunde, Roesler and Harris also qualified for Elite Nationals. So shut up!
Can anyone tell me why I saw a Metro-Sanchez (jersey wearing) guy running on the West side bike path this morning in an adult diaper? Did he lose a bet or something? The way he was running suggested he had a “full load”.
What are Elite Nationals? How does one qualify…not that I could ever hope to..just wondering
Oh, thats just his regular morning routine. What better off-season cross training than “load-jogging” while proudly sporting one’s team kit? Helps develop both inner-leg strength (from wide-stance run) while providing the added benefit of extreme chamois cream tolerance. Plus, it just feels so good! Im down…
To the guy who asked – are you an idiot?
it’s a legitimate question…don’t answer it if you don’t want to, but why be an a-hole about it?
I believe you have to qualify (top 3) in a qualifying race (state champs) for a given category. You also have to be I think a Cat Pro, 1-2. Alan Atwood is really the guy to ask. Bottom line, these guys are the best of the best.
Man I love the Robert Cray band. That guy rocks.
Hey Schmalz
sEBEdoh is playin in Brklyn this wkend!
seein’s how your a Dino jR fan one would assume that you’re no stranger to “bakesale” either.
Elite Track Nationals are the USA Track Champsionships. They are Open Categeory in which Pros through Cat 3s can compete against each other no race categories. Cat 4s can compete in non-mass start events.
Deal is top 5 men and top 3 women at elite qualifier races (of which NYS Champs was one) are eligible for Elite nationals.
http://www.usacycling.org/track/ for info.
Men will see the likes of Huff, Bahati, and Creed, whereas women get Hammer, Reed, Cliff-Ryan, and Quinn. So yes this is the real deal people. Quite your hating and try racing.
Mostly a casual fan of those two. Only know the hits. I do go very deep into Wings, though.
“single pigeon, through the railing…”
Andrew..I may head out for the 3s at Denville on Sunday. Email me (supposedly you can do it through this site)
Mass start events at Elite Nats are only open to Cat 1s and 2s… not 3s.
Correct you are.
Only found that fact afterwards buried deep in the website.
Can someone lend me a hand here?
Totally off topic, but for any of you NYC guys who missed out on Bear Mountain next Sunday, the Blueberry Race down in Hammonton NJ will appear on bikereg in a day or two. We got tied up with township approval, parking, etc.; just got everything squared away today. You know the drill; decent mileage, fast, flat road race. Hope to see some of you guys there.
Went out to do a few laps easy in the park this afternoon. Chatted briefly with our man Mr. Shen (who dropped me on Harlem Hill–I prefer to think that I just didn’t want to go over 150), and then a few laps later got passed by some geezer even chubbier than me, no helmet, with a retinue of half a dozen riders. I thought, hey, Andy was bad enough, but not these guys, so I grabbed a wheel. Then I saw the helmetless fellow’s thighs. How you say–huge. Greg LeMond was out for a spin. Gotta say he was friendly, decent, and not kicking our asses.
Nice way to kick off a holiday weekend.
Oh, and he was riding a Trek.
cool guitar, is that a National?
there’s no dishonor in getting dropped by Andy. Who also possesses impressive thighs, btw.
Yes, National, 1931! Can’t believe I missed Lemond!!!

CAT 1 ONLY FOR MEN
A
F*CK
What happened to all you whiny NYers? For all your bitching and moaning, you guys sucked today.
Once did a job with Keb ‘Mo. He was playing a National. Great sound.
yeah, besides tron witt in the 4’s, nyc’ers got crushed in the prologue.
looking at the top 22 in the pro12, i see 3 guys i raced against earlier this year in the 3’s. no wonder i lost to them.
god, where do they get off not doing well in a super hilly prologue TT against local guys from that hilly region???!?
you guys should all stop biking
I think I dropped something.
These guys are all riding smart and saving themselves for the upcoming stages. At least they have the cajones to go up there and race.
Dude. Im up here too. Those guys arent saving anything. They bite moose banana.
I know reading gets in the way of bitching, but notice that Austin Pferd is also top 10 in the 4s, and from NYC (you may remember him riding away from everyone in the 5s at Floyd on a few occasions this year).
Blueberry race is up on bike reg. If you’re not goin’ to Bear and /or ya can’t climb; come on down. Nice mileage (47 miles), flat; come spend some time with the blueberry-pickin’, banjo playin’, third cousin marryin’, pineys. This will be my last “recruitment” post, promise.Oh, and nice job by the NYC guys in Vermont. This is a “stage” race; you guys usually put up some decent results no matter where you race. Hope to see some of you in the top ten over-all. Good Luck!
Nobody remembers anything that happened in the 5 field at Floyd, except for the MX because he is awesome.
what was that about NYCer’s sucking moose banana? i heard NYVC alone had great results (3rd in the 3’s, 3rd in the 4’s, and a top ten in the women’s 3/4)
I just couldn’t and stall anymore.
Not so fast. NYCers need to win a 3 or 4 mens race. Til then, keep on picking your teeth with the Moose Banana.

in the P/1/2
Kyle Peppo wins the 4A with a solo breakaway. The 3s better be ready for some pain in the future.
