Section head text.
Ok, we’ve got Prospect Saturday, CRCA TT Sunday locally. There’s also the Doc Reilly Memorial on Saturday.
Ugli’s becoming a net legend, Marc Adam knows French dirty words, Wilson is back, and Craig Cook is a saint. Did I forget anything?
ugli will dance this dance!
track state champs at kissena
Anyone ever do this race? Seems like a good event but no descriptions of the course? Also – Doc Reilly? Seems not that tough on paper any comments?
I hope that I will not get cursed out during the prospect 4 race by guys who never place.
what do you mean Ugli is becoming a “net legend”? Are those photos being sent around on blogs?
PP races are so tired this time of year. Same crap, same course and same complaining. Go race some new races. Last week there were hardly any NYC teams at Tokeneke 4s. I guess you would all rather race PP for the same pack finish.
Check out the pics – last weeks PP race was anything but ordinary!!!
PP – at this point in the summer might actually make you weaker. Too much sitting in and downhills. The only tough section is the small hill and sprint. You will get alot more out of a race like Tokeneke, Unionvale, or a regional crit where there is not hiding. But hey, hard courses are not for everyone…
I think if you live near PP its a great training race when you have nothing else going on. But for guys who wake up at 4am and travel to PP – now thats crazy. You could get up later and travel the same distance to a better race almost any weekend without joggers, dogs and yelling the whole race.
I can assure you that the race is hard when you are pushing between 45 and 50k an hour for 44 miles. Granted not as hard as Unionvale or Tokeneke but, those that have families, or that have other committments like me find that Prospect Park, though not the hardest venue, is pretty tough and often not a bad race. And there is NO yellow line rule which is comparable if not worse at times then joggers.
I did Keith Berger’s Crit…won the 30+. What you need?
Flat 1 mile wide open 4 corner.
personally, i don’t think i can imagine a race that actually makes you weaker… but you’re faulting prospect because there’s “too much sitting in”!? uh, that’s not the course’s fault… try attacking repeatedly on a course like prospect where it’s tough to get away. it may be frustrating, but i promise, you won’t get weaker in the process.
Ray defending Prospect is like a jar of peanut butter defending the tenets of Plato
cursing 4’s who never place??? You need to get out of that category…oh, what…you haven’t been placing?
I averaged 301 watts at a pp race. At Union vale I averaged 269.
peepee park is like going to college art 101 with a hangover
it’s like an emergency sausage rehearsal drill
some of my boys needs to get up out the city for the Doylestown PA circuit. Blanco won it last year…great course
Lets see – 300 W over 1+ hr vs 270 W over 2:45 hrs. Which is harder? You do the math, genius.
I dont even use a Watt meter, but someone who does can comment if this number seem feasible if you are in the pack at PP? As an avg over 1.5 hrs? In a break, sure…but regular racing? What about if you were trying to be off the front for whole Unionvale – diff result I would imagine.
then win the f—ing race, idiots. i understand getting bored with the same course for the tenth time. if that’s the problem, fine, but don’t call it “small time” or whatever if you can’t win.
both numbers are from a break
I just hit 2000 watts while taking a dump over all these comments
Wow, i wish i had the universe so figured out that the biggest peeve in my life was where other people chose to race their bikes on the weekend.
If you got the spare time, can you tell me what kind of shirt i should wear to the wedding i have to go to this weekend?
Hi,
…Uh, long time listener – first time caller…
…Uh…what was the question?
The Wedding Shirt assignment has been cancelled…you’re going to a race this weekend – the Doylestown, PA circuit race.
The what comparison is so stupid. I dont have a power meter but I do have an HRM. My HR at Poughkeepsie Crit averaged 180 and at Unionvale 155. Not for a second can you tell me keepsie was the harder race. Its a different race. I think what the anon is saying is that those complaining about PP and all the bitching should venture out and do a different race. There are Crits and RRs every weekend within 1 hour of the city.
Loving the new site, guys.
I’m at least an inch longer when I race in prospect.
can get tired, sure, but being able to race 44 miles by 9 am without driving anywhere is priceless if you have a life outside of bike racing. Plus, they’re fast races, you really feel the speed compared to some hilly yellow line suffer fest.
come to the front and attack if you’re bored. otherwise go home.
Hey JFT, any chance you can update the team and Boyd standings this weekend? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks
40 miles by 9am is pricelss if you live near PP. Otherwise it sucks getting there at that time. I think the biggest problem with racing PP all year is not the course but the riders. When you venture north (VT, MA, CT) you get new racers with bigger and smaller engines. You never know who to watch and it makes the race interesting.
I mean – would you rather their be no race at all in the park. I mean, your wish may come true when the parks people say “ENOUGH – you anon posting, to afraid to say who you are, or to use your real name on velocitynation, wheel suckers; no more races for you in Prospect or Central Park.” Would you want that?
If you are really that good, you should be winning all the races in Prospect Park or at least placing in them whenever you do.
Also, plenty of guys drive in from out of town to do this race and if you think racing against guys like Brownell, Correria, Morras, Durso, Erdelyi, Perez, Vasquez, Peck, MacNamara, Burrows and at times Empire Guys like Lisbon isn’t hard – then you should be a pro! And or winning these races HANDS down. And I can tell you that lots of these guys, all they are the local races due to thier schedules and when they do travel out of town, they still do well.
So do us a favor, stop bitching about the races in Prospect Park. They are good races, good for training unlike what you Mr/Ms Anon poster state. If you are so good, show up to tomorrows race and win. Or go out of town and win. Then reveal who you are so we can say, man that guy might be correct after all. I need to travel to some other races when I have time to get better.
Also, please take into consideration that people may not want to travel to a race – not because they can’t – cause I can tell you I raced all over the place where I spent the better part of a decade travelling to races – and you know what – I don’t want to do that anymore – so racing in Prospect Park, Central Park, Floyd Bennet Field is good enough for some.
And you if you think my defense isn’t a good one – then that is your problem – go drive 3 hours, waste your entry as you get your ass handed to you on a race you probably were never ready for. Then come back here, and I assure you – that you probably wont be doing much better.
Please excuse any typos…
Track state champs….
but can I come to the front AND attack AND then go home?
Good point. I personally try to support the once a year events. If there is nothing else going on I go to PP. For me however, I have to travel either way (live outside the city) so PP is not as tempting. If I lived in Brooklyn I would do PP much more.
“People who race in PP are wimps” guy eventually morphed into angry “Save Regional Racing” guy.
Personally, I race PP to lower my carbon footprint.
I’m SITTIN IN and SAVING TREES
Put that in your Moots and smoke it.
If I felt compelled to publicly post about whether to do this race or that one and why, I would transport myself to hell.

I can only imagine that he joked or something. That is just too bold a statement not to be a joke. He is very strong and a great cyclist but people should stop telling him so because it seems he knows it.
We liked the first one better.
Facts are for pussies.
New York State Track Championships
Where – sittin in all the time till the finishing climb – then off the back for a mid pack finish.
Quit promoting distant races in the remote corners of our great country – I need the upgrade points.
I’m racing the Tour of the Upper Peninsula and then hitting the Goldsboro Crit series.
Anyone ever do this race? Seems like a good event but no descriptions of the course? Also – Doc Reilly? Seems not that tough on paper any comments?
but this is a better race with more participants:

Sat – Cross County Macy’s to Bagel Zone (points for most bagels eaten and slowest time up Central ave). Plus points for most blinged out bike never to hit 20mph. KOM on Picket fense (who can coast up the fastest).
Sunday – GWB to the Spoon. Rules are the same except you replace the bagels with muffins and paninis.
Double upgrade points.
I hate that Spoon event, I’m always getting dropped.
McGriddles
So who are the favs Cat 1-4?
It’s a CAT1/3/5 event
My pick is the cutioner!
You are required to run tubulars in this event. Clichers are not allowed.
Can I do it if my Cat-2-O-Meter is above 203%?
Cat 2 O-meters are not allowed above 150% or you will be put in the Cat 1 group. Also, any bike costing less then $5grand will be given a time penalty.
I’m going to hump the shit out of someone in the sprint this weekend – you’d better not drop the soap!!!
Mexicutioner vs Italutioner.
MX gets small head start – come see how it ends.
but I noticed that 88 registered for the Pro/1/2/3 race. If you’re still thinking of doing this you better show up early tomorrow morning or you’ll be shut out.
people are going to get closed out of PP. If you do, go home or watch the race – don’t ride around at the back and make it a 120 rider field. Charlie I put on a field limit for a reason and let’s respect that.
I’ll go home and watch the race on ESPNHDTV Satelite Channel 1134
Dickbag = someone who is a dickbag
Recycling is for hippies.
Only saw one or two guys who were not registered sitting in. Maybe there were a few more, but not too many.
And it seems to me Charlie I called Ugli’s riding last week dumbassish (though not in so many words)
I’m sure Charlie I. appreciates your spin on what he might have actually said.
And it “seems to me” Barack O called Hillary’s comments last week cracker-ass and cuntish (“though not in so many words”)
sit in the back or do they go to the front as well? Cuz we had some Iron Rider guy go the front a lot, giving other riders free rides on his wheels and shit.
for going into the joggers lane during the sprint?
I hope so.
in the run up to the sprint who have a burst of speed o f about 4 seconds and who fade away so quickly and just get in the way. I saw all these jokers today who weren’t anywhere near the front throughout the whole race suddenly appear in my face in the last 1000 yards but that I subsequently had to weave around as I made my way to the line.
Kissena riders are sketchy as fuck. and suck.
oh, and prospect park races ARE boring. Gimbels is harder, more interesting, farther, and free.
….don’t know how the manage, but they seem to have an almost full squad of sketchy guys. It can’t be a coincidence that they have that many sketchy guys on one team – they must train some of those shady moves
then why show up? why didn’t you do the gimbles ride?
Apply Immediately! Will help you transition from riding your converted fixed gear on the streets of Williamsburg to competitive weekend races

Thanks Charlie and crew
Were supposed to be up two hours ago. do they hold out on the start times like they do on race results? Will we get our Start times on Monday Evening?
Just wonderin’. Any on the way?
Thx.
patience…there were at least 3 people taking photos…some are sure to make it onto the site
What the word on the TT time starts?
Are by default boring. All the majority of the 4 field wants to do is sit in and wait for the sprint. Makes for good times doesn’t it?? You barely see this happening in the 1/2/3 field, where breaks are much more promising and much more common than in the 4’s. I guess it just comes down to inexperience and timidity, I wouldn’t even go so far as to say it’s fitness.
booo hoo. i don’t like field sprints. waaaaahhhhh.
Will someone please explain why the start times are almost five hours late in being posted? Some of us have better things to do than sit around and wait to find out when we’re schlepping out to FBF.
today’s race was pretty fast. i had a 25.5mph avg. i think it is usually around 23 or 24. what does the 123 field usually average?
I’m waiting to post them on the site but haven’t got them — have sent a reminder to the CRCA leaders
27mph
really!!? no start times yet, at 7:22PM ??
I mean seriously.
Still no times. Come on, CRCA! We gotta go to bed, so I guess everyone will just have to get up really early to check their time, even though they might not go off that early. Sigh, oh well.
For those interested next year – Fun course, nice people running the show and neutral water. Not the biggest fields but a nice course (one steep climb and nice rollers) – def worth checking out.
I got the start times ten minutes ago — they’re online now
http://www.crca.net/races07/timetrialaugust.htm
did attack often in 4s and helped keep a fast pace, all sketchy stuff was in the back and by various teams.
Patience. People do have lives beyond feeding this site.
If you are desparate to feed your narcissism immediately after a race, I suggest you bring a personal photographer. Until than, go look at your reflection in a stream.
Aggressive…sketchy…depends on the interpreter. I didn’t see anything alarming. I actually like how they race. I question the purpose of some attacks but hell, at least they’re mixing it up and I’m sure, learning in the process. I will say this though: the dude yelling “GO!” at 167 decibels was a bit over the top. Having said that, injecting some energy in a 4 race is ALWAYS a good thing but it is still early and I’m not awake yet.
who crashed with 3 to go in the 123 on Saturday?
I thought he was yelling “No, No, No!” as his teammate took off too early (1.5 laps to go). We both agree though that it was rather loud…Good race…lotta fun…
Is whether I go for beer number 4 after a day driving from DC with two kids under 5 in the car?
run it
are now here….
