Hopeful Friday 6/8/2007

Section head text.

The Kissena Prospect Park Series begins tomorrow. Once again, thank you Charlie for running the races. Register here.

Is Amaury Perez the dominant sprinter now? Will Miguel Morras be up to his old tricks again? Who will join him? Bunde? Correia? Harris?

The Tour of High Bridge is Sunday, more info here

The PCT International Championship (or Philly – the race that’s no longer the US Pro championships – as it’s known) is also this weekend. It was very smart to move the US Pro Championship race to that other spot – where ever it is, I forget…

In addition, anyone who can name all three tiny triple threats featured in this week’s ATTT strip, wins a free entry to the Prospect race.

dangerous stuff for sure, but the difference is that everybody at the tour knows what they are doing

mikem

the dude who gets tossed over the side looks a little eager to take the plunge… almost looks like he tries to jump over the wall once before he finally goes. the spinning-side-punch is such a bad ass move, though.

Captain Ed

Now that you bring it up…..
You’re right, we have no perspective, we’re definitely buggin’, and we’re out of our f’in minds.

In other words, standard issue bike racers.

Sawit

First, props to Charlie I. His races are clearly the best. Second, it is too bad the way people were conducting themselves during the race, especially when Charlie sets such a great example. Stay out of the jogger lane. Why is that so hard?
Third, I saw the ugly business after the race. It was totally provoked by the rider in the green jersey, and totally unacceptable. I hope green jersey gets suspended and arrested. We didn’t sign up for that kind of Sh_t.

Clubber Lang

I pitty the fool on the left that thinks a spinning side punch will take down a man in spandex. What a pathetic display of manhood.

Anonymous

WTF? You say we keep it in perspective, but you and 4 other guys wake up at 2:30am to go to a minor bike race?

You buggin’

Rob H

That video totally backs up what Clubber Lang said…. that’s just the most ridiculous-looking display I’ve ever seen in my life.

Captain Ed

I’ll add my name to the list of guys saying “thank you” to Charlie and the other promoters that run the races at Prospect. It’s one of my favorite venues, we get up at 2:30 am and drive up from south jersey; I always manage to bring 5 or 6 guys up with me, we love the course. The Cat 4 race did seem a little more aggressive than usual, I’m all for hard racing, but let’s try and maintain some perspective.

me

I once said, “Sir, I object”, then was punched in the face. But I’m mixing up deliverer/recipient roles.

prospect

..it really was more like “why were you talking cr#p to me during the race?!!” (guy in green) – “because you almost caused me to crash a few times” – (Kissena guy). Next thing is the Kissena guy getting pumelled…..fairly ugly..

Clubber Lang

Check yourself fools… What a joke. Nothing worse then skinny, shaven legged cyclist fighting in cleats over a shit race (training to most peaple) like Prospect Park. If you are going to fight keep your sorry ass home. Fighting is not cool and especially when you take it to a great sport and ruin the vibe for everyone post race. I have never seen a fight at a mountain bike race because those guys take things a little easier. Also, most roadie fights are like watching to 14 year old girls slap it out over a boy.

Anyone who has raced in Prospect Park for a few years knows that no one says “Sir, I object…” and then punches someone in the face.

I didn’t witness it, but I know that’s not what went down.

Anonymous

first he gingerly walked over, threw down his gloves, and, applying the Code Duello, demanded a challenge.

than he punched him.

DHR

Charlie I, puts on the best Prospect and FBF races. They are well run, and managed, and I love getting a shorter line for pre-reg. Definitely makes it worthwhile. Too bad the 4 field was filled with boneheads doing stupid things. It says something when on the final lap the moto has to ride along the white like to keep morons from going into the rec lanes.

I am sorry children, don’t be boneheads, a 5th place in a cat4 park race isn’t worth revoking racing in the park for the rest of us.

after i finished the race, i was heading back to the start\finish and one of the marshalls asked me “how many herds are still out there?”. hahaha.

Two guys, green jersey and Kissena.
After the race.
GJ to Kissena: “Sir I object to the way you rode your bike in the race.” (or something to that effect)
Kissena: Fu(& off! (More or less)
GJ then punches kissena. Kissena objects strongly to being hit, looks ready to rip GJ apart. Six guys jump in to keep the aforementioned pair apart. Shouting and name-calling ensues. Situation diffuses after a few minutes. GJ and Kissena probably not having beers together anytime soon.

You put on the best events. You put on a lot of them. I know I speak for a large number of racers when I say that we really appreciate what you do for bike racers in NYC.

Ray Alba

is harder than bike racing – as quoted by Charlie this AM. He is right – a great person – glad to know him for 30 years – it would be cool to see his comeback.

Good race this morning

yeah, too much unncessary agression in the 4’s. fighting at the end too! turn the pedals in anger instead.

Prospect

…I’d say there was a general violent undertone to the whole 4 race. What’s the deal with the United guy yelling at everyone..

175

Charlie I puts on another quality event. I race events in Prospect put on by other promoters because I’m addicted, but his are the best. Very well controlled finishing stretch. Note the limited number of fields, which is safer, and the field limit, which is good too.

But sadly a bunch of riders who didn’t get into the races because they filled decided to ride around anyway. That’s bad guys – don’t do it.

the other me

Oh, I see. Choose a single race, and if a certain rider doesn’t perform well there, then he sucks. That’s air-tight logic! You must really understand this sport.

me

2 yrs ago a Suasagebridge some li’l girl was 2 do the Natl Anthem, and was late showing up, so she had to decend the Kweermont on foot, and when she got down she was all tuckered, and couldn’t sing…but then she did sing and it was scary comical…I could barely keep from shitting myself

JFT

Cool race – yeah, it’s a real kermesse.

I wish they’d actual put down start times — they’ve been running that race long enough that the promoter should be able to set times.

not on drugs myself, at the moment

Is it like Battenkill on steroids? Or is Battenkill like Ballon Festival on steroids?

Anonymous

Thanks for posting the link for the Balloon race profile.
Now I know exactly where I’m getting dropped.
Good lookin’ out!

schmalz

If you know a course, and can map it out exactly at mapmyride.com, that site will give you the elevation change for each lap. That is, if you have some free time laying around…

W

The two-step climb through the feed zone is really nasty and quite steep. It is a bit far from the finish but still a great place to launch an attack. The rest of the course is typical rolling upstate NY.

Rob H

Anyone know anything about this course? All I keep hearing is that there’s one steep hill on it. Anything else would be really helpful!

Anonymous

I signed up but am now bailing out due to the early start for the 3/4s and long drive up from NYC. I hear the coures is much like the Battenkille Roubaix with many of the similar climbs. Go to the BR site and you will get a sense of the course. Its very tough and unforgiving to non-climbers. Many short steep hills.

Have fun.

Potty

21 mile lap. Short dirt section near the start if I remember correctly. Short but steep climbs. I think it was two climbs per lap and the feed zone is on a flat section on the second climb. After the climb it’s flat and there are 3 turns coming into the finish. Two of the turns are real crit like 90 degree turns right before the finishing sprint of say 150m. Does have a Battenkill feel to it. I think the vertical gain is 1500 ft per lap.
