Pedal! Stroke!

The consistent rain of the past, let’s say year, has been literally dampening enthusiasm for Lycra sojourns into the outside world, but this weekend presents an opportunity to at least share your moist misery with a large group of like-minded individuals. And like halitosis, misery is always better when it’s shared.

The weekend starts early Saturday morning with a CRCA club race and the Cadence Cup Prospect Park Series. Also on Saturday is the opportunity to try one of the stages of the Giro di Jersey.

Sunday brings another chance at the Giro di Jersey. But for those in New York, there’s the David Walker Memorial Skyscraper Harlem Cycling Classic, a race as big as its name is long. For those who eschew races of the flat and furious variety, also on Sunday is the Housatonic Hills Road Race.

First good news I have heard from pro cycling all week. This is a great idea. The groups on the road will still get time gaps but they will have to pay attention to the compostion of breaks etc.. like contesting a 12 sprint CRCA PowerPoints race! Domestiques will be seen holding laminated tour rosters & frantically checking #’s and then informing their team leaders.

Wheelsucker

8:54 comment of the day. Hell, that’s the team name of the YEAR!

Dooda Butts presented by Charmin takes the win!

Astana will install microscopic radio receiver straight into motherboard in Lance’s brain.

The only thing I keep track of during a power points race is the number of times I swallow my vomit up Cat’s Paw. Will CRCA give points for that?

Wheelsucker

i guess you need to be near enough to the front to see who is winning?

I do think better points sprint locations would be Museum for Eastside and W.85th crosswalk for Westside…more like cutting park in half…and sprints on even laps…and,….zzzzzzzzzz

Wheelsucker

Liz Hatch …. sharp at getting media, but c’mon. NYC’s own Evie would crush her with one leg.

Don’t forget to celebrate an important anniversary tomorrow: 1 year since everyone bitched and moaned about Rock Racing jumping in at Prospect in their Venom Kits.

Be sure to say thanks to Michael Ball at Harlem on Sunday. Oh, um, never mind.

Gomer

“1 year since everyone bitched and moaned about Rock Racing jumping in at Prospect in their Venom Kits”

It was cool they jumped in the race. It was very uncool that they didn’t have enough good sense and respect to stay in the back of the pack and not affect the outcome.

Chodroff wins GDJ TT for the 2nd year in a row.
Westwood Sweeps the Master’s and 3’s. Olson 4th in Masters.

Since I’m a morning dumper, I’d pay a few bucks more to somehow guarantee that the toilets are open atleast 45 mins before start time.

Dear all Cat 4, 5 riders please stay home next time so that my race doesn’t get shut down with one lap to go, k? Thanks.

WTF. Cat 5 riders are getting up and starting early to subsidize every other field’s longer races. Every other field including the women get an extra lap while the C race remains 5 laps. We were done at 7:10. How did that affect you’re race?

Wheelsucker

Our Cat 5 whiner is probably talking about the Floyd Races. What he misses is that, unlike the Cat 5 men’s field, the women’s field is open and includes Cat 1 racers.

Wheelsucker

There was a pretty serious crash on the last lap of the Cat 4 race. The pack had just caught a break that had been away for a couple laps. The resulting crash clogged up the left lane, therefore the pace the 1-2-3’s were essentially neutralized as they passed the accident. And one of the riders in the crash left on a stretcher, with a neck brace. His face was pretty messed up.

Wheelsucker

Moment in which we live in an area in which multiple races are offered on the same morning.

Don’t be an ungrateful lout!

Wheelsucker

Agreed — why don’t you all shut up, stop your whining and show a little respect for someone who took what looked to be a pretty serious crash. Any updates appreciated

Wheelsucker

hello everyone,
after being in both crashes; this week and last weeks, i have decided to talk about the issue that causes the crashes.
And i hope race promoters can do something about it.
People of Cat4, do you see how wide the road is in the Park?
In the last 300 meters, why do you have to all squeeze in behind ONE rider who is leading?!!!
If you want to sprint, you should open it, not squeeze everybodyelse, and you know well that they have no where to go but crashing. I find it very stupid and so unprofessional.
Or maybe you want to see a dead body on the road so you can ride responsibly?

Phil

There have been alot of crashes lately , but its not just in cat 4 races you get them in pro races as well, and dare I say it cat 3 as well.

I almost feel like with the B races in CRCA need to have a couple of A racers / Clinic in giving advice and pointers on what to do and how to improve and ride safer. There are some crazy moves causing crashes which come down to basic stupid riding, head down sprinting, quickly pulling to the side when you find yourself at the front without checking if a guy is about to rush on the side of you, happens alot. This would also help with team tactics.

After all you go into cat 4 after having only done 10 races , and there is no way you have the experience in just 10 races and the learning curve never stops, even for the pro riders.

I understand that all cat 4 races obviously cannot have pro riders giving advice, but the experienced cat 4 racers should be giving advice to those who are pulling crazy moves and putting everyone else’s lives in danger.

After all we are not pro and most of us have jobs to go to monday morning, so ride safe.

Wheelsucker

I just spoke with the Cat 4 rider that crashed in today’s Prospect Park race. He is at home and resting comfortably. He suffered some facial road rash and needed some stitches. No broken bones or anything more serious. He was released from the hospital after some routine tests.

Guys, before every race I always remind everybody to remember these are fun training races and to please have a safe race. Let’s really start to keep this in mind.

Thanks Charlie. While we’re in the business of being grateful, we should be grateful for the fact that Charlie’s an A+ promoter who *always* puts field safety ahead of the buck. That is sadly rare and we should be appreciative.

There were no crashes in the cat 3/4 race at the Giro di Jersey this Saturday. Leave the city parks occasionally, racing is fun in other places.

dont get this?

Is what im saying is that they where going to be caught in the last lap?
So how can they win, unless we are just giving it to them for the hell of it?
Then its not for real….

Wheelsucker

When Gavriel Epstein (Champion System) and Paul Burrowes (WS United) passed through the crash scene with approximately 1KM to go they had a significant lead on the field. The exact gap? I’m not sure – I was too busy dealing with the crash scene to time it. The gap was large enough that there is no way they would have been caught in the final kilometer. I allowed these two riders to pass through the crash scene (the right lane was open) and continue on to the finish. I then stopped the field before the crash scene as only one lane was open and the fallen Cat 4 rider was still be attending to in the left lane. There was no way I was going to allow 70+ riders to squeeze through only the right lane in full fieldsprint mode while a fallen rider and medical staff were inches away in the left lane. I made the right call and would handle it exactly the same way if it ever happened again. Safety this week allows us to race next week.

when the 2 riders past the start/finish line,I look At my watch to see the split time and it was over minute.

Wheelsucker

Absolutely made the right call. This is a training race. Safety first.

On a random topic, racing in the Cat 4 field today I saw a number of lapped riders hopping back into the field (including one NYCV celebrity), and one guy riding nearly the entire race near the joggers lane. What is the proper etiquette for calling out losers that threaten park access and alter the race? Do you snitch to the officials or just pull the riders aside later?

Wheelsucker

B races are a myth…….

I’ve raced CRCA B for the past three years (yeah, yeah, yeah Cat four-ever and all that) and found the races to be very safe. This morning’s was a good example. I think the two guys touched wheels at the beginning of the last lap, but other than that nothing crazy.

And if you want to complain about a race go see the RD. This morning it was Alex Rodriguez. You’ll know him by his odd sock selections…

Wheelsucker

what exactly is a punk ass bitch?

is it the butt of a female dog who’s body hair is shaved like a mohawk?

Wheelsucker

I was in the crash of the 4s this morning and i was helping the doctor rider who was stabilizing the guy who crashed. I made sure none of the pro123 goes through the left lane. one kissena guy went to get us a slow down sign from Charlie and another one went to get a first aid kit. All this happened, then here is the field coming. Dont try to blame things on Charlie. It is so obvious, to anyone who was there with us trying to control things, that it was a serious gap. peace out

hu?

did you complain about a guy riding NEARLY the entire race NEAR the jogger’s lane? dry humping is not the same as gettin’ down, if you get my drift.

Wheelsucker

Depending on where in PP, it was either in the joggers lane, or on the paint separating the jogging lane from the driving/racing lines.

The Van Dessel Cross Race in Sept! It was a blast in 07. Van Dessel and Augusta, hear our cries!

Gary Steinberg, olsen and the dude that won the 3’s last year finished in that order off a nice 3 man break. Didn’t see no fistacuffs
.

Wheelsucker

Only happens quickly if Mike Green is there to collect the results and post them (didn’t see Mike there yesterday). God forbid anyone one else in CRCA helps him out and gets the results to him in a timely fashion.
