This is the weekend that serves to neatly divide the NYC cycling herd into hilly road racing ascenders or flat corner craving dare devils, as on Sunday we have the preposterously apposed placement of two of the biggest races on the calendar. It’s a Lycra version of Sophie’s Choice, with many riders who have a desire to do both races having to choose which they would prefer, instead of having one race shift to Saturday and creating an uber-weekend of bike racing dominance. But I am not here to judge, I am here to provide links to registration.
Saturday morning has round three of the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup in Prospect Park, which serves as a 14 lap amuse bouche for Sunday’s action.
For those who run to the hills (to paraphrase Iron Maiden), Sunday starts with the Housatonic Hills Road Race in Southbury, CT which is being run for the last time under its current promoter. Rumor has it that the KoS™ himself will be taking part in the race, so if you want your kit critiqued on the spot, you should know that it requires a substantial on-the-spot cash donation.
Sunday’s big event is the 37th Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic, the oldest continuously run race in New York City. Olympic and world champions will be racing, there will be live performances by Biz Markie and Mister Cee and DJ Lance Rock of Yo Gabba Gabba. I will not be performing on stage, but I will be presenting my annual dance on turn four to avoid the final lap mayhem—watch out for me, I will be the one crying.

“amuse bouche”
that has got to be the first time you have ever typed (or spoken) that.
Au contraire, squirrel puffs are a common amuse bouche in Iowa.

Sorry to hector you, dude, but from another thread:
“I would say it is tempting, but we’ve never asked for direct donations from users for ourselves.”
Y’all seem passionate about what you’re doing. If a trip to France furthers your goals, and monetary considerations are the main reason you would not pursue, speak up. Not wanting to ask for money is admirable. But not allowing NYVeloCitizens the opportunity to demonstrate loyalty and gratitude for years of, shall we say, “idiot goofball slackery,” is missing a good opportunity for both of us.
So you don’t have to ask for money. I will. I retract my offer of $100 and re-raise. I will match 1-for-1 every dollar another NYVeloCitizen offers up, subject to a $500 maximum. Set up a page or whatever. (I’m no good at the internets.)
we was robbed!!!
i would be happy to donate my french dictionary of curse words for your prolific usage.
zut alors!
Why do promoters insist on putting womens races on at the same time? NYC had no womens fields for a month, then what seems like a dozen in the last two weekends. If the goal is to encourage and promote women’s cycling, spreading out the races seems like a good idea.

The offers for travel to France are very generous, like a smart ass make a wish foundation, but I don’t think Andy or I have the time to make the trip. I know in my case, the more I travel, the poorer I get.
schmalz really has an international arrest warrant outstanding in france. that’s why he doesn’t want to travel there. it probably had to do with…well, that’s not important right now.
France, no, but Kansas is another story.
So Dan and Andy for all your bravado in publishing shit about Lance on nyvelocity, I knew you’d fold if ever confronted with dealing for real. It’s the same as the time when you protected doping when confronted by an angry promoter looking to cover up.
Betsy has to look harder to find someone with real balls to take on the uniballer.

eh, whatever…
although, nutstrong’s comment of, “what do i do? i’ve never dropped out of a race” was pretty cool.
Dearest Mr Savage,
It’s not like we’ve been invited to dine with Lance, someone thought it might somehow be possible to raise enough money from the readers here to send us to the Tour at the last moment. It’s not like we wilted in Lace’s icy stare, we have jobs, this site does not pay our bills, much less pay for a trip to France at the last moment.
“It’s the same as the time when you protected doping when confronted by an angry promoter looking to cover up.”
I’m not sure what you’re talking about here, but it sounds like you’ve got an awesome alternate reality going on there, and I would like to request that you give me more hair when you fantasize about me from now on.

Who is Scott Savory?
A.: The dude who kick your sorry ass this morning
The real question is, who isn’t Scott Savory?
Why were so many people in the cat 4 finish excitedly using the rec lane? Was there a Bike Nashbar Balaclava on the line?
If you’re asking who scott savory is then you are probably excitable

anyone know if there’s a way to pick up tomorrow’s broadcast of harlem online?
thats the second time scott out sprinted gavin robertson this year. Why does all those foundation work for him anyways. They did all that work for him to loose the race?
you can pick up the live feed on velonews’ site:
http://velonews.competitor.com/live/harlem
Thanks,
CJ
Foundation’s goal was this: to get Gavin in the leader’s jersey, which it did. Gavin placed second. He now leads the series. Ideally, he would have won the race, too, but that’s racing. Happy enough with jersey, certainly. Also, took several spots in top three in KOMs and Sprints. Not a bad day.
Ted King – Cervelo Test Team in the P123 race – ouch!!
who gives a fuck? he’s raced in the NE previously, for years.
i think they forgot at least to mention who won in the woman experiment race no????…..i saw a kissena girl, Jordan-Zephyr team girl, CRCA, and Sanchez-Metro if im not wrong…so who was 1,2,3 & 4 ???
STFU Hugo. He is pro-tour rider. He writes funny/bright shit. When you do either people might give a fuck about you too.
pro tour shmo tour…go to the front and remind’em of where he came from.
Bigger FREAK Show, Mermaid Parade or Harlem Skinscraper?
another delusional rider who thinks a year-long diet of criteriums – basically, urban short-track little races for wanna-be human greyhounds (and as exciting and important as Florida dog races)- a real cyclist makes. go back to where you came from, 50-mile tortoise
I thought on Foundation, second place was a set of steak knives.

“urban short-track little races for wanna-be human greyhounds (and as exciting and important as Florida dog races)”
so road races are somehow more exciting/important than criteriums? moronic. by that logic, you could just as easily say road races are for dudes with the weight/height characteristics of teenage boys (and the concerns about weight of teenage girls) who dont have the aggression, guts, bike-handling skills or sheer nerve to survive a crit series
the registration table.
>ted king is here? well what the f*ck, how am I gonna get a result now? this sucks, I want a refund. Protour rider participation wasnt on the flyer and now my picture wont be on the interwebs.<
watching people biff it on the wet roads on Harlem from thousands of miles away. love it.
KoSâ„¢ wins the pro race at Housatonic.
is there a car parked on the course just past turn 1?
Not a car, that’s a construction lift of some sort
The Germans take the pro race at Harlem in a two man break.
Christian Grasmann and Leif Lampater finish one two at Harlem, Pulla third.
looked to me like emilito took third, but they gave him 4th. probably tested positive…
“Maybe if I swerve around at the head of the pack and stare longingly at everyone else, they’ll become compelled to do the chasing for me…? If that fails, I can always just do a 4 second whack attack then coast and look back in feigned disgust”
“Maybe if I sit in the back, do nothing and instead flame everyone on a message board, mom will make her delicious MEATLOAF.”
sad day for nyc cycling. never brought back the germans and let pulla (ex-doper) get final podium spot. at least pulla went for it.
I don’t care they are Germans. But the amateur RockStar racing jersey is better looking than the pro jersey.
The only German the Harlem Pro-1-2 field learned today.
Can be found HERE: http://www.velocityresults.net/results/267/harlem-skyscraper-classic-harlem-ny
It was a good show today up at Harlem. I did notice that no one team took control of the race, except for RockStar. Instead of racing for third, and then having some other guy win it, the larger local teams should have been doing a TTT to catch the German duo. No matter it was still a good show to watch on TV.
To the jackanapes who said that “fuck Ted King he races all over NE”…..that’s right jackanapes!!…not jackass…look it up. Anyone who races somewhere….anywhere.. initially…has to start somewhere….no-one was born into a pro-kit. It only makes the sport better for us amateurs if a guy like Ted or Joao doesn’t think that they are too aloof to jump into some “local” races. So – do SHUT UP PORTIA!!
And while I’m at it…that Lamas guy who played soccer for the U.S. should also shut the “f” up. I’m sick of his condescending comments during this world cup.

Speaking of pros racing somewhere – Floyd Landis shows up at a race in Nevada and gets 4th pl. The jersey (hilarious!)
