So, it must be painfully obvious by now that Andy is out of town for the week, as I have spaced on the hopeful Friday page. All I have really contributed this week is a long argument about sandbagging, and a half rigged team competition at FBF. This is what it would be like in an all schmalz NYVC world – scary!
In our never ending quest for ways to make you do our work for us, we present our latest weekly feature – Hopeful Fridays, the good twin of the Monday Hangover. Because hope springs eternal on Friday, before we’ve had our hats handed to us over the weekend.
Post your predictions for the weekend, talk some ill-advised smack, tell us where you’re racing, and most importantly, anonymously tell us who’s getting dropped.

What’s the deal with Aaron Olsen’s ‘stache, did he lose a bet?
Moustache Chicken Contest for B Cup points.
Gives the sprinteurs and the rouleurs an equal chance.
WTF?
it’s Pat McCarty
It’s been a long week…
Noticed that Advil-Chapstick is doing Bike Jam. Best of luck to you guys.
Heres one for anyone not racing but doing say River Road repeats. You know the stop sign at the top of Alpine Climb – obey it. 4 of us got nicked last week by some over-zealous copper. He made it quite clear it was his aim in life to clean up "this dirty town" of all scoff-law cyclists. If he does stop you ask him to tell you the joke of the policeman beating the cyclist with his baton – its a real pisser.
once i leaned my bike against the railing or something outside the ranger station because there was a bunch of muddy snow/slush between the tar and the bike rack. mistake. you would have thought i’d killed a cop’s mother.
Those people are absolute jerks.
‘ Those people are absolute jerks.’
Maybe, but they have to deal with us 7 days a week. I’d be cranky to after years of dealing with us.
Manville was a mess for me. Sean – who got their at the last minute – no warmup – was having a hard time adjusting to the course, took me and couple of other guys out. I blame the fact that he was late and not warmed up for this event for what happened to me tonight and the other dudes. He usually rides good. Tonight was just one of those nights and I kind of sensed that my lucky night for wrecking was going to happen.
Tommy Bencivengo, Louis (Sakkonnet), Brian (Metro), Ralph Lugo (bayamo) and Doug of FDNY lapped the field – without Ken Harris – who was unfortunatlely late. Carlos Rivera and one of the Nellessen boys were not lapped.
Placings for tonights race were
1) Ralh Lugho – Bayamo
2) Dough FDNY
3) Tom Bencivengo -CS
4) Louis (Sakkonet)
5) Brian Metro
6) Nellessen (ANA)
7) Rivera Metro
8) ???? Dont know
9) Pat Gellanaue (hard to think he can still do this)
10) Rob Wing (CS)
Me – another unlucky day at a race. So for all you – I had the fitness but, to put it lightly, someone just happen to literally get in the way.
See you at Sommerville tomorrow – hopefully people will get there on time, learn the course, and learn to corner properly.
Ray
I gave myself and passengers two hours for a one hour drive. It worked twice before with no time to rush. Not today, lots of traffic, nothing went our way and we got on the course as the race took off. They were so punctual, damn then, crits are always late. To make matters worse, I also was driving two heavy hitters in Ken H. and Gabe. I felt bad as they were ready to race. I, too was disappointed, but felt especially bad for my passengers who would have been involved in the what looked to be a great race. Lots of attacking that bluew the race to pieces. I too felt bad for Ray who crashed when looking strong at the front.
Lesson learned,, more cars on the road these days.
what are we doing that needs to be "dealt with"? the overwhelming majority of us are safer than the drivers out there and just want to be left alone to ride.
Ray what race were you in at Manville. (I know that there was only one race) but the field was not lapped. Maybe they caught the end of the pack but not the main field. So dramatic….
6th place at Manville was Dave Wells. Nellessen was not even at the race dude. You doing bad drugs again? And the field was not lapped dude.
Its not about dealing with ‘us’. Its more like getting a crap salary, not gettin any on the homefront, and watching too many episodes of ‘cops’!
Hey Ray get’em next time. Keep racing, and just have fun, the results will come your way. A lot of guys are just coming online with the form and I’m sure you’ll plug in soon if you keep lining up.
technically you were lapped if they attacked and caught on to the back of the field, face it losers, you were lapped!
what time do the races start on Monday in Somervile?
also, does anyone have a 3 spot they want to sell?
Justin all the police – judge – and park workers are idiots over on River Road. Obey the laws and don’t talk to them, they don’t like cyclists and will not give you a hello without grief – not that the city parks are any better.
I got reemed by a cop at the boat house for not stopping at the red light – have you ever seen a cyclists stop at 1pm in the afternoon for a red light when the park is supposed to be closed? Apparently it is the law… He used me to vent – no ticket – just humiliation and intimidation. I would have liked the ticket and professional behavior instead, I imagine he had no grounds to give me a ticket because he did not ask for identification. I filed a formal complaint – Zero happened however.
I have a hundred of those stories for River Road.
J – there is no reason in the world you have to be cranky at a cyclists minding his own business. If you don’t want cyclists there fence it off, put up a sign – no cyclists.
If you don’t like your job however do something else for a living and let us ride in peace. Or maybe ride a bike once in a while yourself so you know how it feels to be scorned, run-down, attacked, beat-up, shot at, and hit with flying objects while waiting for a stop sign. A cueball hurts when hit in the back with one from a speeding car …
campocat,
Stop crying like a bitch, and Obey the law. Where does it say you dont have to stop for a red light at 1pm in the park when its closed? It doesnt. Believe it or not, the cop had all the Grounds in the world to give you a ticket but chose to give you a break instead. You should have thanked the Cop for not giving you a ticket as you rode away on your little bike.
River Rd. – the only guys driving faster uphill than the cyclists go downhill are parks employees and cops.
And you are?
You know who I am.
I have every right in the world to
straighthen your manners
You know where I am
On my little bike fuzz ball
Now, you know who is reading our mail
boys…
then runners, bladers, and walkers should stop at the light!!!!
What fuzz ball told me at the time was,
now take this down yall…
If you are in the rec – lane you don’t have to
stop for the light. Clear as mud?
Nice to know the police are not only reading
our postings but are commenting too.
makes me feel all warm a fuzzy
don’t you?
When the cops in CP stop for red lights, then they might get some more respect. Contrary to what you think, or they think, they are required to stop at red lights unless they are responding to an emergency. Only the hypocrites give cyclists a hard time for following thier example. If you try to file a complaint, usually nothing happens or the captain will try to talk you out of it. Most of the cops are decent folks, but there are a few idiots in the bunch. You know the ones, they are on a power trip and they carry that same attitude in their personal life. Some will grow out of that, others don’t.
