Hopeful Friday 5/16/2008

Section head text.

The spring flood of races has turned into a more manageable waterway, but there’s still plenty of racing to be found.  Saturday brings us the Kissena Women’s Track Clinic and the Union Grove Road Race for the road trippers.  For those with extra gas and greed in their hearts, there’s also the Bank of America Wilmington Grand Prix, with it’s $15,000 pro purse.

Sunday is the Cadence Tour de Parc Criterium in Wantagh.  For those who yearn to explore Jersey, there’s also the Circuito de Evesham in Marlton, NJ.

….and for the real road dogs, headin’ up to Syracuse for the race weekend there. Puttin’ on the results guy hat this weekend.

Good luck to Joe on the clinic.

looks interesting. what are the mountain bike cat equivalent to road, and could you do this on a cross bike?

Anonymous

Would not suggest attempting this on a CX bike, not even sure it’s allowed. If you have never done a mt bike race, would recommend beginner. Don’t let the short distance of the course fool you. Most of these races take about 35-50 min to complete a lap depending on how technical the course, and at crit pace. There is plenty of suffering.

Jesse

If you have never raced mtn then race either beginner or Sport. I do not think you can race above that as you have no points. Sport will kick your ass. These racers are very fast and good on their bikes. Ride a hardtail at the least. Cross bike noway unless its a non-technical short track race.

Have fun. The Windham NORBA National race in July is going to be very good. Most pros will be there tuning up for Nationals the following weekend.

who cares about harlem cat 4s?! or any of the other categories for that matter? Stupid course, and unless its been repaved, not very good.

Al Gore

Thank you to the people who do the hard work of organizing it but why does the Tour de Parc have to be scheduled the same day as the Montauk Century — thus banning bikes on trains? Seems like it was a problem before.

Mary-Lynne

The women’s clinic today at Kissena was a HUGE success. We had 20 women in attendance!! Thanks to everyone for participating and to Joe Brennan, John Campo and Dan Lim for coaching!

There will be a follow up clinic in late June. Stay tuned!

Hey, Fat-ass Al Gore whose humongous house has a bigger carbon footprint than several African nations:
You can take the LIRR to either Hicksville with no restrictions. You’ll have a 6-7 mile warm-up from there.
And as for the date, Charlie I takes whatever the various Parks Depts will give him. He puts on more races than any other promoter in the NYC area. If he did it last Sunday you would have complained that he put it on against Bear. Maybe he should have done it against one of his PP races?

Charlie, a sincere thank you from almost all of us.

sucks all the time in my opinion. likewise it did on the way home today from PARC.

with that said – charlie (as always) puts on a class race that starts on time, pays fairly and keeps the course clean, clean and safe. that’s all i can ask from a promoter.

only that sucked was the rain. otherwise it was great racing.

Judge Katherine Harris

Bikes not being allowed on the train is a problem with public transit and the LIRR, not with the dates of the Montauk ride or the Tour de Parc. It was a fun race, on a Sunday no less!

Scotty Z won B of A merica w/ a solo attack at the bell from a group of ~10 and they got 2nd and 3rd switched in the brief results for the men and the women. LVG and Wren were 3rd not 2nd.
