Just back from Branchbrook 1/2/3 race. In almost ten years of racing I ve never seen so many ridiculous slow-speed crashes. Not only did the promoter charge a lot of $, he wants to make as much $ as possible at the expense of safety. No one got turned away at registration, and pre-reg was already. There had to be at least 125 (and that ‘s a conservative estimate) on the course. Too many riders. I used to like the BB races, but I won’t go back. I know Prospect enforces the field limit, and with good reason. I ll race there instead.
word on the street, the CB promoter doesn’t even pay his NJBA dues – or last that’s whatoccured in da past.
some kids don't get much parental support racing
when I was a junior I generally had nearly zero cash. My family was well-off but I didn’t get much cash from the parents, plus but I only worked in the summer and wasn’t allowed to spend all that. So every $ counted for racing. Thankfully club racers were cheap.

Re: price per mile,
How much do golfers pay per stroke? Or is that not arbitrary enough?
$45??????
NRC races with $10,000 prize lists and ridiculous setups cost $45. not a podunk race in NJ. you people are getting straight up robbed.
be definition
If you willingly pay it you’re not getting robbed.
to Eugene
Golf has so much more money involved in it so its a tough comparision
One last comment on brakes
All the brake nay-sayers are closet tri wanna be’s. Go aero where there are no brakes.
Results should be posted
it’s not asking a whole lot

The price per mile analysis is silly. Things cost money in this country. If you ski, play golf, play hockey, run in road races, etc., it will cost you something. If a person wants to compete in a sport that requires exclusive use of real estate, police and emergency services, insurance, marshals, officals, permits, prizes and sometimes entertainment, it will cost something. The promoter must also be adequately compensated for his or her time and out of pocket expenses, including advertising and registration costs, etc. Some races cost more than others. But I’ve never heard a parent at a bike race say that the entry fees are the part of the sport that is hurting them.
Cherry Blossom
All of the races run by the Cherry Blossom promoter are overpriced. 45 dollars is steep really steep. I head the promoter once telling people that he introduced junior racing to help develop the sport. Having to pay an entry fee of 30 dollars for only 13.2 miles of racing and only for medals is an excellent way of showing juniors that it is an easy sport to get into. If I were a junior why would I or my parents want to pay 2.27 dollars a mile to race for a medal. Who is he kidding?
I usually say don't complain about high entry fees
Just don’t go if you don’t want to.
But those junior fees are high.
A 100K race that close to NYC is nice – wish I could make it.

"I will not go to another spring series race until AVD posts the results of the 4/8/07 (Central Pk.) race. His website still lists the last race as 4/7/07"
So you really need to see results that your sprint put you in 25th place again?
LVG rocks
Remember when she won the Denville crit in 2001, outsprinting some local badasses
"I will not go to another spring series race..."
That’ll show him.
hahaha Spring Series

Women's Sprint Challenge for Schmalz
Laura van Gilder is entered in Cherry Blossom 1/2/3. A perfect opportunity for Schmalz to show he is the true Women’s Sprint champ. will he show?

Will some of the Empire guys do a double? CRCA then Cherry Blossom?
A good warmup for the Tour of Va stage race,which is next week but not as tough a field as Battenkill.
NJ
Pfff. The Cherry Blossom has to be the most overpriced race in the area this year. That the promotor thinks he can get away with charging $45 and a $10 late fee and still try to talk up his race in this forum is shameful. All I know is that a lot of racers wouldn’t bother to pay it if it weren’t on the GSC. Maybe next year it won’t be…

Matty McNatty { Imagine if circa 2010 Netflix could have done one of these docudramas on the CRCA scene in those days? Greg Olsen, Colin Prensky, and that... }
{ Great Stuff Dan!!! }
pommespommes { Glad your back to blogging. I wish there was more race reporting/news in the NYC area (other than f*cebook) from both 1st and 3rd person.... }
{ You “gifted” the field the first race of the year. Eddy isn’t pleased. }
Benzina { Schmalz is back. Life is better, somehow. }
schmalz { There's no dignity in amateur bike racing }
