Watch. Men. Race.

Put on the elastic waistband pants, because the spring bike racing buffet has flung its doors open. There are 5 opportunities for displays of mightiness in the area. Saturday there’s the CRCA club race, Branchbrook, and the Princeton Stadium Classic in Princeton. Sunday has the Spring Series in Central Park, and later in the day, you can go up to Bethel.

Unless you can bend all of our notions of space and time, there’s no way you can do all 5 races. And if you could bend space and time, why are you bothering with bike racing? You should be slapping on some tights and working to save the universe!

It’s going to be one of those crazy races. Don’t know if Champion systems is going to sign up but if they do and if Empire signs up too it will turn out to be a race where i will see the front only if for a brief moment if I start in the very front row. Will O’Donnell and Kyle Peppo will be aggressive from the gun (whistle or other noise to signal the start). Then there is Joao Correia who has already raced in Argentina this year against the likes of Ivan Basso who will be able to ride away from that field at will.

This one is in particular for 08.28’s Wheelsucker…

Stop whining and get your overweight (most probably!) carcass in a pair of tight more often. The key to this sport is to actually train hard and then race even harder. I know that because that’s my secret.

Now, all I can add is: GODSPEED, MY FRIEND!

Another Wheelsucker.

P.S.: The “mentality” shown by the guy to who I replied here appears more often than usual. The message for those who think alike stay the same. Go out there and have some fun!

and, he wasn’t complaining or whining. the only person complaining and whining today (so far…) is you, about his non-complaining and non-whining.

Nothing to do with racing but there was an enormous rock slide on river rd, maybe a mile north of the second gate (the one that comes after the first little climb). I wouldn’t count on it being cleared for quite a while.

AVD said no problem, the spring series TT would be held there. Must have his marshals working OT.

VS is showing Paris Nice in hi def on their VsHD channel (794 on Time Warner). Looks like European races are being shot in hi def. Pictures hardly reference HD, but hard to tell with the crappy weather.

Does this mean all the European races including the tour will be shown in HD on Versus?

Anonymous

the picture is not very good. VsHD showed the TOC in standard def, 4:3 with side bars. This fill the 16:9 screen without any zooming, stretching, etc., but the picture really looks no better than standard def. Nice to have the screen filled/no bars without any distorting though.

Ullrich to discuss doping in a book?
Jan Ullrich will answer the question “Did you dope?” in a book he wants to write, saying, “This question is not easy to answer.” In an interview with the German tabloid BILD am Sonntag, he also indicated a possible doping usage when he rode, when he said, “Whoever still can’t put one and one together about what happened in cycling is beyond my help.”

Ullrich retired in February 2007, after being suspected of involvement with Dr. Eufemiano Fuentes. Blood taken during the Operacion Puerto was matched to him via DNA testing.

Ullrich’s manager, Wolfgang Strohband, said not to look for the book any time soon. “I know that he has not yet started working on this book,” he told the dpa press agency.

The 35-year-old German, who lives in Switzerland, said that he had been offered “millions” to confess, but that he wasn’t interested. He agreed with the characterization of those who have confessed, such as Jörg Jaksche or Patrik Sinkewitz, as hypocrites, noting, “They only said what would help them.” Jaksche disagreed with that, saying “What does it help me when I am now unemployed? At least I was honest about my past.”

Having a strong deep team means results don’t matter?

What? Its better to have a small weak team? Oh, I see then when you lose its because you aren’t on the strong deep team? Got it.
