Section head text.

Off the top of my head I can think of two races on Saturday the CRCA club race and a Kissena race in Prospect. And there the knowledge runs out. There’s probably some “Festival of riding in circles” somewhere out west or north, but I’m just too lazy to look it up. Plus, Andy is escaping for another day, leaving me to be sole editor of the site. If you thought my Power Tap numbers were tedious, wait until you get the reports on my digestive tract!

I raced PP Saturd (not a regular) and was the guy who went off the front halfway through the race. In that instance noone came with me so instead of going on a suicide mission I soft pedaled back. It was probobly for the best as it was early in the race and the break would not likely have stuck. To the anon comments, it did seem like only a handful of guys were working at the front to force a move and set a hard tempo up the small hill (notably Westwood Velo, and Kissena). I think its hard to get the sprinters and there teams to work hard when they know the race will likely end in a mass sprint.

I thought it was a fun race and good training for me. Wish it was a bit longer 15 laps maybe.

i too think rockleigh is a great race. small field. an hour or so of hardnosed racing against good guys; lots of westwood guys like Roger and Gisler; work on skills, get the high intensity. its midweek.
only downside is that its thurs so if i have a big race on the weekend, it doesnt work.
pavementis crapped up on one side but not that bad

sounds like you were one of those guys you were just complaining about. you must be “That guy” that screams “come on guys!” “go faster” and just sits his fat ass in the peloton. nice work.

4 at Prospect

To Prospect 4 anon. Reading your post sounds like you were very much a spectator. You’re complaining about no-one doing any work – doesn’t sound like you initiated any attacks – if the race was so “lame” you should have soloed off to victory. Moral of the story is – make the race happen – don’t expect others to do it for you – and more importantly don’t whine about the pace if you did nothing the change it.

I'leak alotonwanker

Rude can reach new high’s when annon posters not only speak their mindless dribble on their own behalf but also appoint themselves the spokesperson for everyone else in the world. It must be a heavy burden. oufokebdesk

Pretty lame race today. No one would work to get in a break and no breaks had any real fight. A racer hammered half way through the race near the finish and got a large gap very fast and noone would bridge up. From that point on that was pretty much the story of the race. No work just everyone sitting in for the sprint. Also, it looked like the guy who won (not certain) did violate the jogging path rule during the race to bridge up to a break. Just sayin…

Track racing boring?! A 3 sprint 12 lap points race…It is basically the most exciting part of any race only it happens three times in ten minutes. A miss and out… ever see one of the fastest guys in the field get called out cause he got put in a bad spot on the inside? exciting stuff…

Ethan

I agree. Rockleigh is a fun race, crap pavement on the backside notwithstanding. But, it is kinda fun doing the 1/2/3 race with only about 10 guys. The promoters are great guys too and deserve the support.

If you can get to cat 2 you really should try riding some big pro-1-2 races just to see what it’s like. It’s very cool to be flying around in a field of 150 guys with crowds, real caravans, etc. Not so easy to stay in, but very cool to do.

so you’ll all have to come over to NY and pay our excessive sales tax to get yourself some sweet sweet QR action.

if you were indeed a “bike racer” and not a stuck-in-the-4’s-forever-roadie-only, you might actually be able to appreciate the nuances of track racing and the awesomeness of mountain bike racing. have you ever tried either one? maybe you ought to before you make absurd blanket statements.

real bike racer

he should change his name from ‘bike racer’ to douche bag. who rags on track racing and women’s cycling on the same day?

Chris M

Sorry I meant 0.7 mi or a bit less I suppose. Sounds not-so-brutal, but done at 25 mph or whatever in the 1-2-3 field after like 10 times it will def cause me to pop off the back suddenly and miserably…

bike racer

“You mean nobody except for the guys who win road races all the time, right?”

Yes, those guys. They probably race mountain bikes too, equally as exciting.

Eugene

You don’t have to care about the Velodrome, that’s your business. But there are many people who enjoy a variety of race types, venues, opportunities, etc. Bike racing is fun! Enjoy it any way you can get it.

Jeff King sacrifices chance to solidify lead in Jim Boyd competition to do Rochester festival of riding in circles with Mengioni. Sakonnet boys will also be doing same circle fest.

schmalz

You can ride to Rockleigh and Park Ridge, both are profiled on the “Local Race Courses” section (button on the left) on VCN.

DHR

I thought Schmalz said Cat 3s are the sluttiest category? Now they damned sluts? Wasn’t that the name of his band in HS, Dan Schmalz and the Damned Sluts?

703

what other races besides PP, CP, and FBF can you ride to in NYC? i would love to hit up some races in jersey, for example, but i don’t what’s close enough (have no car)

Anonymous

lazy to ride, or lazy to drive? one of the great things about nyc is that you can ride to so many races. only worth driving to the big ones.

Potty

There is nowhere to go from here. I definitely don’t want to ride with 1’s and 2’s only, so I’m thinking retirement. I was fortunate enough to flat last night in the Rockleigh crit before Wilson and kie and a chance to spit me out the back.

Chris M

I like Schmalz’ term for Cat3 as “the category of the damned” – so true…esp if you are old like me/us and dont see spending yet more time on the bike.

Chris M

By the way, I find that picture quite disturbing for some reason. What is the devil-man with the bottle hoping for, exactly?

DHR

isn’t that Toto’s head on a version of a vermouth ad, or some advertisement for some crazy italian apertif like that.

Are we going to have cocktail recipes on this site too, as part of hopeful fridays?

Chris M

Dont forget this race in Princeton NJ – right near my second “home” – a small roach-infested basement that I live in half the week. The race is actually good fun – a 2.4 mi circuit with a nice 0.07 ish mi upgrade that progressively hurts quite a bit. To my knowledge, though, there is no House on any of the four Corners, and the Grand Prix is a pat on the back. Come join me in this pain fest!

Captain Ed

You’ve got the Corner House Grand Prix in Princeton on Saturday (bikereg) and the Velocity Sports Grand Prix in Marlton on Sunday (racelistings). Corner House is 2.4 mile circuit, rolling. Marlton is 1 mile flat, fast bicycle Nascar(go fast, turn left).
