Ken was racing the Gyro and took a big spill in Tzatziki. Very messy, it was a real p.i.t.a.

...

apparently it’s banging a tied up chick on an ottoman until she’s unconscious from banging her head against the wall. what that has to do with local bike racers doing NRC races escapes me.

Victor Polished

With Foundation in 2nd place and Champs in 3rd we have two NYC based CRCA teams in the USA Crit top 3. That is just awesome and shows what kind of level cycling is on in NYC.

Tonight’s race is still on as scheduled. Remember, we race rain or shine and only if the course is flooded do we cancel the race. Another update will be posted on this site around 4PM when I inspect the course.

The overall standings can be found on the final pages of this link:

Please note there is a revision to the first KOM sprint in the Pro/1-2-3 race at Saturday’s Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup. Second place went to Kevin McNeil and not to Augusto Sanchez. It was the old upside 89 – 68 number error. The final results are:

KOM # 1 presented by BikeReg.com

1. Stalin Quiterio (Somerville Bicycle Shop)
2. Kevin McNeil (Major Taylor)
3. Tadeusz Marszalek (Unatt)

Or… 5 minutes of conversation and understanding after the race will leave everyone happy and with the correct results. But maybe you’re right an automatic DQ is a fair idea so that the guy who came in 4th in that sprint deserves his 3rd place instead.

Trenton pit bull

If anyone has pics of the guy wearing the fanny pack in the cat 4/5 race at the cadawalader park race in trenton on saturday please post. I heard he decimated the field.

Orchard Beach, sunny day, announces that Olsen is back, BUT I still miss the orange mouth guard and matching orange bike . . . . .

Road pizza

Anybody who the guys is who left half of his leg on the second turn at Orchard BeCh in Cat 4 race?

Bobby Julich

Not sure where the wearer of the orange was, but he didn’t seem to on the winners podium lately. Thought he faced mandatory old age retirement.

Florian Crank

Bunch of guys rolled their tubulars yesterday including the referenced Cat 4. Extra layer of glue and PSI lower than 120 when doing crits boys. The life you save could be mine.

Ball and Chainwhip

Can we really call something with only 2 corners a crit????

Sorry but that 180 was not a corner

Cosimo Helmet

Cat 4s are gluing their own tubulars?

who’s the mechanic not properly gluing tires?

Vincent Ferrule

Stop complaining about the course. It was a fun race and good course. Infact, if you’re a spectator this course was the best. One could actually watch the entire race unfold, unlike every other course out there.

Also, PP and CP count as crits because the race is never long eneough, no corners there. Branchbrook only has 1 corner. Rockleigh has 2.5 corners. See, there’s always something to complain about. Bethel has 2 corners.

I agree very much so that more courses should be traditional crit courses. Riverton is a great example. But, hey I’m sure you’re not the one goign through the trouble of putting on the race. I hope I saved you the trouble of complaining here.

Corner me

Too many sharp corners and guys complain about crashes and too many corners; too few corners and dudes complain that there aren’t enough corners to crash in — bottom line is, Orchard Beach was well-run, safer than most crits and it was good racing. Stop complaining.

Louis Hammer

Agree. Orchard Beach was really well run on an awesome course (great for riders and even better for spectators).

Noah Tank

Why don’t you let US COMPLAIN WHY you STILL can’t win despite your expensive bike and aero wheels? May be go do Gran-freakin-fondo this weekend? You may win you age group! Good luck!!!

Orchard Beach was a great race…corners or not. If it didn’t qualify as a crit, it still qualified as a bike race. And a fun one also.

Vincent Ferrule

Also, beautiful venue at Orchard, not just another industrial park. Team Six Cycle (I think) also brought some Pizza, which held over some hungry racers and spectators. Parking was right near the start/finish. Overall, awsome time had by all.

We even got to yell at the Park Rangers when they drove onto the course.

Champsys to Results, Bro

They have 13 Cat 1’s on their roster and this was their second win……..and it’s mid May……..

Damien Nipple

Surprised it took until after 3pm

1. Cat 4s on Tubies
2. Complaining about Orchard Beach course
3. Hating on Champ Sys

Had the over/under at 1:30pm…you boys disappoint…

>if a rider wins a race
>and no one’s around
>does he still make a sound?

After a quick check of the USA Crits overall standings, Colin Jaskiewicz is in 2nd and Gavriel Epstein is in 5th.

Mathias Headset

the USACrits standings formulation is a slight tweak of the formula that makes Schmalz the highest ranked racer in NJ.

Bobby Julich

Biggest issue was/is — where were Schmalz and Shen for the OB Crit? Enquiring minds want to know.

Truth game, though, well run race – hope is a steady on the calendar.

WillS

orchard beach results were entered into USA Cycling as April 12th rather than May 12th

My 34th place needs to be counted properly

D-Rod

Very well-run, great location, convenient parking, spectator-friendly, and they even bought pizza. By NYC standards the course was in pristine condition, and the few corners there were meant the pace was very fast. Great stuff.

Passed basic reading

If you took time to look at the USA crit page you would see that Athens was the only race that went toward USA crit points. So, the website is updated and correct. It amazes me that you take the time to write the comment but dont take the time to read the website.

...

I tried to figure out the usa crits thing. As near as I can tell AvD runs it. You get points for signing up, and for laps in the lead or something. It appears wildly convoluted, and no one should be faulted for any confusion related to it.

Vincent Ferrule

So, your’re saying that the results after Athens didn’t change after Tour De Grove?

Passed basic reading

I am saying you need to get a life and stop posting about updated rankings. Both NY team are doing awesome on a national level and that is what matters. Will Tour de Grove really change that? It probably will in your mind because you live for the local club race and base your opinion on that criteria. Seriously, get a job.

Danato Ferrule

You are correct. The USACrits standings make no sense. It doesn’t really seem to give a true reflection of anything intuitive.

Danato Ferrule

Meanwhile, AvD was actually doing a pretty reasonable job until the last race of the series which has still not been posted via twitter, usacycling or airdrop leaflets anywhere.

hater69

USAcrits standings reward consistency over a single high finish. The teams that do well in the overall are the ones that put several guys in the top 30 at every race or consistently win like Mountain Khakis has been doing. And yes, both Foundation and Champ Sys are based in New York but really the riders that have been going to those races haven’t been racing locally very much at all so it doesn’t affect any of you.

Gaetan Brazeon

i ran a half-marathon on the day of a usa crit and i’m now ranked 17th overall in the series

Wheelie Ferrule

What happened to him? That guy won everything last year and I haven’t heard word of him this year.

Mathias Headset

i may have missed something, but it does appear to be a strange formula for the USACrits if you look at this:

Luke Keough = a 5th place, a 3rd place, a win, and a missed race

Colin Jaskiewicz = a 10th place, a 7th place, an 11th place, and a 17th place

but, in the overall Colin Jaskiewicz is in 2nd, Luke Keough is in 3rd.

You don’t get it.. It is not how many top 10 placings you get it is how much money you spend to attend every race.. Turking every race will get you more points and brownie points witht the officials. Champion Systems/Foundation riders turk every NRC race..

Charlie I.

Tonight’s race is CANCELLED. The course is completely flooded.

but the formula rewards (disproportionally high) riders that race with the best riders. So if you have top guys but finish out of the podium or even money, you get more points then winning races that don’t have the top guys finish. So it rewards sprinting from the middle of the pack for the highest places and passing good riders the lead out or don’t care.

That’s how Schmalz got to be #1 in the state and #3 in the country as a cat 3. By finishing high, but out of the money at Tuesday’s FBF series against many cat 1s that were many racing for the top spots.

sinep

what are all these races you guys are going on about? the spring series ended a while back. there’s still racing?

Random Name

Guy let me break it down for you. The main goal of pro teams like Moutain Khakis/Kenda 5-hour/Colavita/United Health etc is to sacrifice themselves for one guy coming to the line. That is why you see like one member of their team in the top 10 standings. Local guys from Foundation/Champion Systems turk every NRC race hoping to place consistenly in the top 20 to build up points so they can come back on the local scene and pump up their chest. If you had all the money for travel/hotel/equipment wouldn’t you give it a shot?

Jacopo Seatmast

Open up the rule book and read it. There is no way CP is a crit. A circuit race, yes, but not a crit.

Rim Job

i thought the main goal of pro teams like Moutain Khakis/Kenda 5-hour/Colavita/United Health etc was to find a sponsor with enough money and naivete to finance an american “professional” cycling team
