Is the best road course out there . Pity that no one does it. It is less that 2 hours from the city as well.
Attention FBF Racers!
There is an important course and start time change for tomorrow’s race. Click this link for more info:
http://spasport.com/new_course.htm
The Cat 3-4 race will start at 6:30PM tomorrow.
Please share this with your fellow racers. The Park officials have informed us they is some additional clean-up being done on our normal race course for the next 2 weeks.
Please share this announcement.

We love Hunter so much we’re probably organizing another one July 27, this in addition to the Spring, Fall.
Dieter
It is way better than bear mt. The hills are selective but not too much for a sprinter to get over. The feed zone is safe and the finish straight is fully closed
Just a heads up – the Tour de Syracuse Omnium is this weekend. It’s also the NYS RR Championship: Saturday crit, Sunday TT & RR.

(And for all you cynics out there..no, I’m not officially involved. I just like this race and the club out there has worked hard to keep this race alive.)
A July edition would be great. I am bummed that I missed the recent running.

What is the best route out there?
Manhattan bridge and just follow Flatbush all the way there.
Can you run one on Sunday and not Saturday?
Next year, maybe. This one is back to back with the Worcester Crit we’re organizing the next day. We’re also at the mercy of festivals, weddings, etc. at the resort.
Hunter is a nice race, but I think there’s demand for a one day race within a couple of hours of the city that has some steeper climbs for the true climbers.
Rather than having 3 races at Hunter every year, I would love to see someone bring back the old Bear Mountain race (or even just use a different route starting at Hunter than the course used for the spring, fall — and now apparently summer — races).
FBF Start Time Change! A reminder that the start times for tonight’s Regional Orthopedics Tuesday Race Series at Floyd Bennet Field are as follows:
Cat 3-4 6:30PM start time. 50 minute race
Cat 5 6:31PM start time. 30 minute race.
Cat 123 7PM start time. 1 hour race.
NEW COURSE: We are also using a new course for tonight and next Tuesday: Clik this link for more info:

I believe there were some significant & recurring course issues at Bear Mtn + it’s a state park with lots of red tape.
Dieter
The Army Cycling Team ran a successful event at Bear in April: The reason I won’t be putting on an event there anymore is the new brass at the park; they don’t like cycling and are very inflexible when it comes to trying something different to try to improve the event.
I saw that Army collegiate cycling event back last month or so, overlapping a section of the course while out riding in the park, and was hopeful that racing in Harriman was going to be re-introduced.
Too bad that park officials are that problematic about bike racing, Bear was always a great venue.
I wonder if they regard Tri’s, and those sprint “adventure”-type race event differently, since there always seems to be a few that are permitted to run there every year. Is it a revenue/use thing, or is there something inherently offensive with cycling events?
If any of you are familiar with the Duke’s Estate, in Hillsborough, NJ it would be a beautiful place for a bike race. It’s a permanently preserved, georgeous estate with paved roads (in great shape)running throughout. Ample parking. Big environmental push from the estate – they just bought 45 bikes for people to ride for free through the roads and trails.

How about having one of the 3 Hunter races finish at the top of a climb? There are lots of options.
Make a left off of rte 23 onto 296 and finish at the top of the climb 2 miles up the road.
Go thru the town of Hunter and go left on Scribner Hollow.
Or make any other left of off 23 for a finishing climb. Or shorten the race a little and finish at the top of the climb on Rte 42.
Agreed with some of course comments. A climbing finish would be great!
Maybe. Scribner Hollow No. Through the Village no. We could possibly finish up at the lodge (we’ve already talked about that), or run it in the reverse direction.
How about a little heads up next time you want to combine fields? For $65 I’d expect a little better planning…
Sure. Can you help me with the weather though? It really seems to get in the way sometimes.
Really seems to dislike the people he is taking money from. I guess we are dicks though
FBF always finding news ways to make things crappy. That aborted course sucked tonight.
New course = different tactical game. I like both, but I guess i just love bike racing.
We combine fields if turnout is low in any particular field. This has happened since the Beginning. USAC rules dictate that we still need to award prizes based on the original fields as advertised, which we did at Hunter and always do.
From a points perspective, if you are doing well you want bigger fields in any case.
Absolutely no refunds for any reason, then absolutely no field changes for any reason. That sounds like a fair bargain.
